Dave, a review by DJ Doena

January, 13th

Director: Ivan Reitman

Kevin Kline    ...    Dave Kovic / Bill Mitchell
Sigourney Weaver   ...    Ellen Mitchell
Frank Langella   ...    Bob Alexander
Kevin Dunn   ...    Alan Reed
Ving Rhames   ...    Duane Stevenson
Ben Kingsley   ...    Vice-President Nance
Charles Grodin   ...    Murray Blum

Synopsis: Dave Kovic is a simple man who works in an agency that gives people jobs. But he also looks exactly like the President of the United States. One day the Secret Service hires him for a public appearance because the real President Bill Mitchell has "more important" things to do. But when Mitchell falls into a coma due to a stroke the chief advisor Bob Alexander engages Dave to play the President for real.

My Opinion: This is a great fun flick about American politics with all its aspects (like the budget, running campaigns and so on) and Dave pretending to be the President and getting used to the job. I liked all the characters in their roles, from the First Lady to the bodyguard and of course the villain of the piece - Bob Alexander (Skeletor in Masters of the Universe) but the scenes between Dave and Ellen I like the most because then it shows how different a man Dave is from Bill.

Sherlock Jr., a review by Danae Cassandra

Sherlock Jr.
Year of Release: 1924
Directed By: Buster Keaton
Starring: Buster Keaton, Kathryn McGuire, Joe Keaton, Erwin Connelly, Ward Crane
Genre: Comedy

Overview:
Widely regarded as one of the most visually inventive silent comedies ever made, SHERLOCK JR. offers fast-paced slapstick as well as a brilliant deconstruction of the filmmaking process. Keaton stars as a movie theatre projectionist who dreams of becoming a super-sleuth and, in one breathtaking sequence, literally steps into the screen to bring his fantasies to life.

My Thoughts:
A good friend gave this to me for my birthday, and I promised him I would watch it before the end of the year.  This was a great film! It's clever and imaginative, artistic, smart, and very funny. The gags and their timing are perfect, the stunts make you sit back in amazement, knowing that Keaton did his own stunts, and Keaton's sad little everyman is one of the best characters of the silent era. Yes, the technical aspects are dazzling, with all of the inventive special effects and camera tricks that Keaton employs here, but most of all it's a really good film. Did I mention funny? I'm sure I did - and I will again. It's a really, really funny film.  I'm not sure how it could be made better.  Highly recommended for any fan of silent comedy - or anyone who wants to try a silent comedy.

Bechdel Test:  Fail

Overall: 4.5/5

Tom's Random Star Trek Reviews, a review by Tom

VOY 3.16 Blood Fever
Writer: Lisa Klink (Writer)
Director: Andrew Robinson
Cast: Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), Robert Beltran (Commander Chakotay), Roxann Dawson (Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres), Jennifer Lien (Kes), Robert Duncan McNeill (Lieutenant Tom Paris), Ethan Phillips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Tim Russ (Lieutenant Tuvok), Garrett Wang (Ensign Harry Kim), Alexander Enberg (Ensign Vorik), Bruce Bohne (Ishan), Deborah Levin (Ensign Lang)

The first episode with a big P/T focus. Vorik goes into Pon Farr and chooses B'Elanna as his mate. She refuses but is infected by the blood fever of the Pon Farr when Vorik briefly mind melded with her.
Under the blood lust, B'Elanna chooses Tom as her mate which leads to some great P/T scenes.

The end of the episode marks the introduction of the Borg to the Voyager series.

P/T moments:
There are a lot to choose from in this episode. My favorite two are the following:
