Underworld, a review by DJ Doena

March, 7th

Kate Beckinsale    ...    Selene
Scott Speedman   ...    Michael Corvin
Michael Sheen   ...    Lucian
Shane Brolly   ...    Kraven
Bill Nighy   ...    Viktor
Erwin Leder   ...    Singe
Sophia Myles   ...    Erika

Synopsis: For centuries Vampires and Lycans (Werewolves) have been fighting and killing one another. Selene is a Death Dealer, a Vampire specialized in the hunting and killing of Lycans. But her latest hunt brought up several mysteries. The Lycans have suddenly guns that can fire bullets containing a light-emmiting liquid - fatal for Vampires. Where did they get those? And why were they following that Human who seems important to them? And Lucien, the ruthless leader of the Lycans, is supposed to be dead for 600 years. But is he actually dead?

My Opinion: What I really like about this movie is it's style. The look of the snobbish Vampires versus the more ragged look of the Lycans. The darkness and the rain and the soundtrack. The story and the acting is ok, but not overwhelming. But if one wants to have a nice brain-free evening with a lot of shootings and a bit of mythology in the mix, this is the movie for it.

The Cave, a review by Rich

Title: The Cave

Movie Count:7
TV Ep. Count:6

Runtime:97
Certificate:PG-13
Year:2005
Genres:Horror, Action, Science-Fiction

Plot:Deep in the Romanian forest, a team of scientists stumbles upon the ruins of a 13th-century abbey. On further inspection, they make a startling discovery - the abbey is built over the entrance to a giant underground cave system. Local biologists believe the cave could be home to an undiscovered ecosystem, so they hire a group of American cave explorers to help them investigate its depths.
Jack (Cole Hauser) and his brother Tyler (Eddie Cibrian) are thrill-seeking professional cave explorers who run a team of the top divers in the world. The crack unit, which also includes Charlie (Piper Perabo) and Buchanan (Morris Chestnut), immediately begin their exploration. But what they find deep inside the caves is not just a new eco-system, but an entirely new species altogether.

My Review:
More action than horror, a fast paced underground flick that tried it's best to beat a low budget, weak casting and B movie handicap.
At times it is hard to follow the shaky camera work and dimly lit scenes, and I had to rewind on several occasions. But you certainly do get the claustraphobic feeling, and I think the cave is actually more frightening than the strange creatures which liberally inhabit the screen. The booming sound was awesome and dragged you into the tension filled tunnels, but the huge let down was the lack of gore and violence (can't believe I said that!), clearly to hit a PG rating they cut out loads.
Fairly mindless entertainment but generally forgettable as the credits roll.
My Rating
Out of a Possible 5

The IT Crowd: Version 3.0 - (mini) marathon, a review by Tom

03. Tramps Like Us (2008-12-05)
Writer: Graham Linehan (Writer)
Director: Graham Linehan
Cast: Chris O'Dowd (Roy), Richard Ayoade (Moss), Katherine Parkinson (Jen), Matt Berry (Douglas), Lucy Robinson (June), Tom Binns (Nolan), Janet Whiteside (Olive), Adam De Ville (Greg), Tom Meeten (Tramp), Laura Patch (Tour Guide), Darren Strange (Lawyer), Lewis Macleod (Narrator (voice))

This episode wasn't so good. The storylines were all done thousand times before and except for a few lines, it wasn't really funny.
