The Rum Diary, a review by Dragonfire

The Rum Diary

I wasn't exactly sure what this movie was about from the previews, but I wanted to see it...mostly because Johnny Depp is in it.  I have seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, though it has been several years, so I was expecting this one to be kind of bizarre too.

The plot is kind of straightforward, with Paul Kemp taking a job at a newspaper in Puerto Rico and enjoying the rum...a lot.  He meets this developer guy Sanderson and becomes obsessed with his girlfriend Chenault.  Paul ends up in some rather odd situations with Sala, a friend he makes at work.  Paul discovers some things about Sanderson and then has to decide how to deal with things.  Some of what happens doesn't make much sense at first...and a few things still don't make much sense by the end of the movie either.  That didn't bother me though since I thought the movie was really entertaining.  A few scenes show chicken fighting..something I really didn't need to see.  Thankfully, those parts aren't too graphic.

The movie is actually pretty funny.. one scene had me laughing so hard my eyes started to water.  It is funnier than I expected and probably one of the funnier movies I've seen.  Some of what happens is funny just because it is so bizarre or twisted in some way.  The humor isn't going to appeal to some people, but I think it works for the movie.

Johnny Depp is great in the part.  The other cast is good too, but Depp is my favorite.

Overall I loved this movie and am really glad I went to see it.  I'm sure I'll be getting it once it is out.

Superman: Brainiac Attacks, a review by addicted2comics

I'm a little behind, but I have 2 more movie reviews to put up.

Superman: Brainiac Attacks

The Plot: Clark Kent prepares to tell Lois his secret, while brainiac attacks Superman in an attempt to take out Superman so there is no one to stand in his way. This makes Clark question the results of what telling Lois would do, and if it would only put her in more danger than ever....after all.....her blood is already merging with Kryptonite, and no he has to go into the Phantom Zone for a cure.

My Thoughts: It was an ok movie. Basic superhero expectants. Some laughs (like how my dad and I couldn't stop laughing at Lex actually saying "Brain Freeze" that one time!) I guess that makes it above average, it was enjoyable, but not that much to speak of. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

The Dukes of Hazzard

What's the show about?
The Duke cousins Bo and Luke live together with their other cousin Daisy and their uncle on a farm in Hazzard County. The Dukes were once moonshiners and they still can make a good corn whiskey. All of the Dukes often get in trouble with the corrupt Sheriff and Boss Hogg but they can always beat them.

"One Armed Bandits"
Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P. Coltraine try to smuggle illegal slot machines into Hazzard County. But Bo, Luke & Daisy hijack the "fertilizer" truck and use the slot machines to keep the orphanage open.

My Opinion
Did you know that they scrapped over 300 Dodge Chargers to make that show? The only season I didn't like was the one where just another pair of cousins came to Hazzard County and Bo and Luke went off to drive races.
