Dark Light, a review by JimmyTitle : Dark Light (1993) Overview A tale of intense vampire action! My Impression The problem with this one is the budget, more money could make it so much better. The basic idea is interesting : the army had done a secret research to create a race of super soldiers, they had used a vampire as a guinea pig to combine is strength with the human strenght (the real army experiment on thing as insane as this in real life). The experience had succeed with the creation of a vampire race who can live in daylight. But when the human-vampire hybrid break out they have to retrieve him and keep it secret. That sound like a pretty good film on paper, but on the screen not so. Nothing really happen and the action is absent. Too bad that this idea was not developed better... Rating : P.S : I'm not sure if this movie is really Zombie Genocide, but I'm unable to find another film done by the Irish director Andrew Harrison. Maybe one of our British members can help me with this? (From Jimmy's 2009 Horror Marathon on October 4th, 2009) The Abyss, a review by CritterThe Abyss Year: 1989 Director: James Cameron Cast: Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, John Bedford Lloyd, Leo Burmester, Kimberly Scott, Todd Graff Plot: A civilian diving team are enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and face danger while encountering an alien aquatic species. My Thoughts: This review may contain some spoilers.Titanic. The AbyssThe Day The Earth Stood Still, we seem to think that we need aliens to tell us that humans are too violent. I highly enjoyed watching this film, but I felt I would have enjoyed it more if there had been more of a focus on the science fiction elements rather than just the crew ship and their problems. I would probably give it a 4, or 4.5 for how much I enjoyed the alien aspect of it. My Rating: (From Critter's Random DVD Watchings on March 13th, 2010) Buffy The Vampire Slayer Marathon , a review by Critter1.01 Welcome to the Hellmouth Plot: Buffy arrives in Sunnydale and is not happy to meet her new Watcher, Rupert Giles. A mysterious "friend" offers guidance, but Buffy resists her destiny until Willow and Jesse are abducted. Buffy saves Willow from an ordinary vampire, but loses track of Jesse in a confrontation with Luke, the Master's vampire vessel. My Thoughts: As far as pilots go this one has never been up there with my favourites. It's a solid start to the series but I have always felt Buffy starts to shine the most as a show around halfway through season 1. This episode is a great improvment to the 'Unaired Pilot' which I once saw and does interestingly leave the episode on a cliffhanger, which means the pilot is almost shown over two episodes instead of one. Not many shows I have watched end a pilot episode on such a cliffhanger but I think it works well here. I found myself laughing at quite a few of the lines in this one. The show may be outdated by quite a lot now, and we know that the way teenagers speak changes over the years but that quirky way that characters seem to speak in Whedon shows never seems to get old. Like I said, this is a solid start to the show but compared to some of the Buffy episodes to come it is certainly not one of the stronger ones.
