Rambo: First Blood Part II, a review by Jon

Rambo: First Blood Part II
3 out of 5

This is a fairly decent sequel, though it does lose much of the power and point of the first. On one hand it's a thin excuse for Rambo to go a bit more killing machine than in the first part, but at the same time, the screenplay (co-written by action maestro James Cameron) does balance very well. The story needs a silly contrivance to get Rambo out of the prison term he's been serving, and Trautman is still talking bollocks, but the heart of the story (American POWs left behind in Vietnam) is a good progression of the first and another indictment of how the US handled their part of that war.

The action itself is fantastic, if dumb, iconic stuff. Rambo without a leash, happily killing faceless enemy soldiers, is great to watch and the cathartic last act (helicopters, and dealing with the suits!) is just a perfect ending.

According to the interview on the disc, Stallone seems to be trying to distance himself from both this and part 3, which is typical of him. He's got a point about the next one, but this is the best sort of sequel, especially for the time it was released.

Rating: 15
Length: 89 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85
Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo
Subtitles:

Stars:

Plot:
Megan thinks she's cheering for the same side, but her parents thinks she bats for the other side!

Megan has got it all - she is popular, pretty a model student and is dating the captain of the football team.

However, the cheerleading teenager is accused of being gay by her religious, over-zealous parents. They pack her off to a sexual reorientation camp not realising that it is "camp" in more ways that one!

What Megan's parents hoped would set her on the straight and narrow is a revelation to her, and a breeding ground for her burgeoning sexuality!

Extras:
Scene Access
Featurettes
Interviews
Trailers

My Thoughts:
I have always enjoyed this movie. It is really campy, but in a fun way. The camp is used to satirize the ignorant people who think one has a choice to be gay or not.
One of the workers at the sexual reorientiation camp is played by RuPaul in probably in one of few appearances out of drag.

1.01 Another Summer Story, Part 1

I own the manga series of this (after colleague recommended it to me as I enjoyed the author's previous work: "Video Girl Ai"), but I still haven't read it all. I didn't get quite into it. I bought this animer also a few years ago, but I never watched it. I wanted to wait until after I finished the manga.
For this marathon I watched now the first episode from the first series. The first series consists of two episode and its story is not taken from the manga.
When I started to watch it, I thought what a horrible dub it is. I am not used to having anime such horrible voice acting. Until I realized that I forgot to switch to the original Japanese track and had still the English track on. English anime dubs are always horrible in my experience.
This first episode was okay. Nice animation. But like with the manga, I didn't quite get into it.
