Friday the 13th - Part 2, a review by RossRoy

FRIDAY THE 13TH - PART 2

WHAT THEY SAY
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to camp... here's even more heart-pounding terror.

Five years after the horrible blood bath at Camp Crystal Lake, all that remains is the legend of Jason Voorhees and his demented mother, who had murdered seven camp counselors. At the nearby summer camp, the new counselors are unconcerned about the warnings to stay away from the infamous site. Carefree, the young people roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence. One by one, they are attacked and brutally slaughtered. Suspense and screams abound in this compelling thriller.

MY THOUGHTS
Well, I think Part 2 us an improvement on the first. At least, this time around, they do show the killer moving around, stalking its prey. And I must say, Ginny makes a more believable victim than Alice did. I do hope they show some more creativity with the killings down the line, because if they stick with the machete hack'n'slash killings, it's getting old already.

Om Shanti Om, a review by dfmorgan

Om Shanti Om

Year: 2007
Director: Farah Khan
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone
Overview: The makers of 'Main Hoon Na' are back with the biggst film of 2007!

Farah Khan, one of the most accomplished directors in India, weaves a spectacular story of romance, revenge and reincarnation.

'Om Shanti Om' is a romantic saga of a boy next door, Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) who works as a junior artiste in bollywood in the 70's. He is madly in love with the superstar of that time, Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). His dreams and aspirations to become a superstar and be with his lady love are thwarted as he witnesses the brutal murder of his beloved Shantipriya by a mercenary producer Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal). Om Prakash dies, trying to save his Shanti.

But destiny has something else in store when 'Om Prakash' a junior artiste returns as  'Om Kapoor' the superstar of 2007!  His journey of rediscovering himself, his past life and avenging the death of his beloved is the story of  'Om Shanti Om!

'Om Shanti Om' is a tribute, especially to the joyous and exultant era of Bollywood  -  the swinging 70's!  It has captured the imagination of the audiences worldwide with its dramatic storytelling, musical narration and stunning  performances, making it the 'Highest Grossing film of Bollywood ever!'

Watched: 5th Mar. 2011
My Thoughts: I quite enjoyed this film. Many of the references to Bollywood old and new were lost on me with my current lack of depth of knowledge about Bollywood but that didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. The big climatic song at the end for the final reveal reminded me very much of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera"

My Rating: An enjoyable 3

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

What's the show about?
Hercules, son of the father of the gods, Zeus, travels through the world and helps villagers who are in danger. He fights warlords, demons and the creatures created by his stepmother Hera, the queen of the gods.

"Hercules and the Amazon Woman"
It's not exactly a pilot, it's the first of five TV movies that were made before the actual series. But it's as good as a pilot.

A man comes to Hercules and Iolaus and asks for their help. His village is attacked by beasts. Hercules and Iolas accompany the man. But they are attacked by the beasts and Iolaus dies in it and Hercules learns that they are not beasts, but amazon warriors...

My Opinion
Hercules was a good show, although (as I said) I liked Xena more.
