The All-American Girl, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: The All-American Girl
Year: 1972
Genre: Drama
Director: Mark Haggard (The First Nudie Musical)
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h22
Video: Fullscreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: No Subtitle

Stars:
Peggy Church (A Touch of Sweden)
Alan Burton
Andy Mitchell (The Teaser)
Paul Berry
Tracy Rodgers (The Big Snatch)

Plot:
Debbie's boyfriend Bobby has left for Guatemala for three months and Debbie is expecting a boring summer. But then she hasn't considered her neighbours and their 14-year old son Johnny...

My Thoughts:
The American exploitation films were about the familiarity of the woman, every fan have is favourite one. Many of those girls had a long career like Rene Bond, Marsha Jordan, Ushi Diggart, Maria Arnold, ... But some didn't made a lot of film. Peggy Church is one of them and it's very hard to find her films and to find them with good quality. She had done seven features in six years and her first two are considered lost. The All-American Girl is her last one and the only one where she is the star.

If I had to choose one movie in the Something Weird Video collection that I would like to have in a special edition, this is the one. But, their distributor (Image Entertainment) have always refuse it. So the only way to watch it is on DVD-R (note : SVW have all the rights of their movie, so no bootleg here) with no remastering job, so the image and sound are not really great.

The story is interesting, but it can be shocking for some viewer since Peggy Church plays an 16 years old (she had 18, but she was young looking), she have relation with an adult man, an adult woman and a 14 years old boy (who look much more like 30). Peggy Church performance is really good in this and she proove that she can be a star, it's surprising that she had stop her career with this one. The rest of the cast is OK, this only exeption is Paul Berry (the 14 years old) who is a real bad actor and never did anything else. Some scenes are pretty borderline for a soft X film : girl masturbation (no close up but it's clear that it's the real thing) and adult-teenager sexual relation. Now keep in mind that it's not a pornographic movie, but an exploitation picture who goes just a little bit farther than usual. Last thing the theme song is really catchy.

I like this one, but because of the poor quality of the print use it's hard to recommand it. unless you are a fan like me and you are satisfy to have one film and the quality doesn't matter.

The Name of the Game Is Kill, a review by GSyren

The Name of the Game Is Kill (089859-885228)
United States 1968 | Released 2013-04-02 on DVD from VCI Entertainment
83 minutes | Aspect ratio Anamorphic 1.78:1 | Audio: English Dolby Digital Mono, Commentary Dolby Digital Mono
Directed by Gunnar Hellstrom and starring Jack Lord, Susan Strasberg, Tisha Sterling, Collin Wilcox, Mort Mills

My thoughts about The Name of the Game Is Kill:
The Name of the Game Is Kill is a title that has been virtually impossible to find on home video until now. That fact alone makes it interesting. The DVD release from VCI uses a copy of the film that is probably the best there is. It is far from perfect, though. It is soft and the colors are not very vibrant. Don't ever expect to see it released on Blu-Ray. But if it's a title that you're interested in, don't wait. It's extremely unlikely that it'll ever get better than this.

The film is said to have a shock ending. Well, I didn't find it shocking, and in fact I saw it coming long before the end. But the film is kind of creepy and disturbing, so it's not without entertainment value. Jack Lord (before his stint as Steve McGarrett in Hawaii Five-O
I rate this title

"Stargate SG-1" Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Season 1

Disc 1

Children of the Gods
Synopsis:My Opinion: A very good pilot which takes upon the events of the movie and continues to tell the story. It simply ignores the contradictions to the movie instead of giving some cheesy excuses. Only Teal'c's switching of sides was a bit too fast, he doesn't know Jack at all. But I can't come up with a better plot on how to manage this.

The Enemy Within
Synopsis: Kawalsky has more and longer headaches and phases of black outs after which he can't remember anything. Back on Chulak he was taken over by a Goa'uld larva and now they fight for the mastery of the body. Meanwhile Teal'c is being interrogated by a men from Langley who wants to learn more about the Goa'uld.

My Opinion: I liked the fact that they didn't accept Teal'c blindly in their team, even though Jack thought that he deserved it. It still went fast in the end but at least they mentioned their doubts and pointed out the problems. Now SG-1 is complete: Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Sam(antha) Carter & Teal'c.

Emancipation
Synopsis: SG-1 arrives on a planet where the population leads a life like in the times of Genghis Khan. It is forbidden for women to appear unconcealed in public, neither is it allowed for them to speak unless spoken to. Carter soon collides with these laws.

My Opinion: "SG-1 arrives on a planet" - I wonder how often I will write this sentence in this marathon. ;) I didn't like this episode much, mainly because they tried to communicate the morale with the grace of a sledgehammer. I nonetheless like the fact that they at least argued about the fact whether it is right to interfere with local customs and affairs.
