Quantum of Solace, a review by Rich

Quantum of Solace

On a nonstop quest for justice that crisscrosses the globe, Bond meets the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), who leads him to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless businessman and major force within the mysterious Quantum organisation. When Bond uncovers a conspiracy to take control of one of the world's most important natural resources, he must navigate a minefield of treachery, deception and murder to neutralise Quantum before it's too late!

Less memorable than Casino Royale, a little less polished than the best Bonds, villains not having such a great impact, Bond girls are great - but could be better.
In other words, this could have been improved with slight tweaks, to transform it from a good movie to a great movie.
The dark rough and ready Daniel Craig is more terminator than the saint, continuing to bring a hard edge to the familiar Bond character, as he goes renegade in an attempt to investigate the organisation that killed Vesper. Very few one-liners, gadgets a rarity, but a mature breakneck speed storyline that fully satisfies.
The action scenes are carbon copies from Bourne, and need to develop in the next Bond film to their own individuality. M has a bigger part than usual, and needless to say Dench pulls off a great performance.
This is the new Bond, grittier and current, and QOS will rank as one of the better films for me.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Year: 2009
Director: Mark Waters
Rating: PG-13
Length: 101 Min.

Stars:
Matthew McConaughey as Connor Mead
Jennifer Garner as Jenny Perotti
Michael Douglas as Uncle Wayne
Breckin Meyer as Paul
Lacey Chabert as Sandra

Plot:
Connor Mead is the kind of guy who dumps three girlfriends. At the same time. By teleconferance. So when he attends his brother's wedding he has a single goal: score with the only bridesmaid he somehow missed. But the ghost of his departed Uncle Wayne - who taught him to love 'em and leave 'em - has another goal in mind: restore Connor's lost faith in true love, a tough assignment requiring the services of many, many Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner and Michael Douglas and director Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven) uncork a romantic romp as bubbly as wedding-toast champagne. It's the perfect comedy for anyone who believes in laughs and love. Or needs to.

My Thoughts:
This one I watched on HBO On-Demand. I wanted to check this one out because I always liked Jennifer Garner. While I really enjoyed Jennifer Garner in this movie. I did leave it  a little disappointed. There really wasn't to much comedy here. And while I liked the idea of making it basically a rip-off of A Christmas Carol... I really didn't care for who they picked for the ghosts. at least not for the present and future. I did kinda got a kick out of Uncle Wayne... and the Ghost of Christmas past did give me a couple quick chuckles. But over all I just found it to be an average Romantic Comedy. If I do add this one to my DVD collection (if for no other reason then Jennifer Garner) it will be because I found it right cheap. Thinking right around $5 and I MAY grab it.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Everwood: The Complete First Season, a review by addicted2dvd

     Everwood: The Complete First Season
IMDb |Wikipedia |Trailer/Intro |
As a world-class neurosurgeon, Dr. Andrew Brown is a hero. As a father, he's a zero. But that is changing. Tragedy makes him a single parent to his two children. And as the first act of his new life, Andy leaves Manhattan and moves his family to Everwood, the tiny Colorado town where big dreams can grow.

The relationship between Andy and his talented but resentful 15-year-old son Ephram forms the heart of these 23 first-season episodes of Everwood, the acclaimed, richly layered series created by Greg Berlanti. Treat Williams plays Andy, learning parenting on the fly as he raises Ephram (Gregory Smith) and 9-year-old Delia (Vivien Cardone). Unafraid to tackle big issues, spiked with sharp humor and filled with engaging characters, Everwood is a place and a series that rewards each visit you make.

EPISODES:
1. Pilot
2. The Great Doctor Brown
3. Friendly Fire
4. The Kissing Bridge

Stars:

Gregory Smith as Ephram Brown
Emily VanCamp as Amy Abbott
Debra Mooney as Edna Harper
John Beasley as Irv Harper

My Thoughts:
I just finished off the complete first season. Normally a drama series is not my type of thing. But in the case of Everwood I was hooked from the pilot episode... and I remained hooked through-out the entire season. I found this series to just be simply amazing. I liked all the character and the storyline advanced in a way that made you want to hurry and watch the next episode. And all I can say is WOW! on how the season ended... I so can't wait to continue on to the second season! This is one series I can't recommend high enough! This makes two drama series in a row that I fell in love with. My tastes must be maturing with age.
