Sleepy Hollow, a review by Dragonfire

Sleepy Hollow

Master storyteller Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) weaves an eerie, enchanting version of this classic tale of horror. Johnny Depp is Ichabod Crane, an eccentric investigator determined to stop the murderous Headless Horseman. Christina Ricci is Katrina Van Tassel, the beautiful and mysterious girl with secret ties to the supernatural terror.

My Thoughts

It has become a bit of a tradition for me to watch this one every year at Halloween since I picked up the DVD.  The movie has a wonderfully spooky atmosphere that works perfectly for the story.  The town just has a creepy, spooky look to it even when nothing related to the Horseman is happening.  The plot is interesting and entertaining, even after many repeat viewings.  There is a good amount of mystery and suspense to what is going on and several scary moments.  The violence is a bit extreme at times, but that works with what is going on.  Some of the violence is more exaggerated, and things do get rather gory at times.  The characters are interesting and the cast is perfect.  I love Johnny Depp in the part of Ichabod.  His performance does add some humor to what is going on, which helps to lighten the mood a bit.  IT always cracks me up when he freaks over the spider..though if I saw one that size in real life, I would out freak him with no effort.

I have a special graphic for this one. :)

I did post a review of this one on Epinions several years ago.

My Thoughts:

The mother of all vigilante movies starring Charles Bronson as the iconic Paul Kersey. This was the movie that I gained my true appreciation for Bronson as an actor. Having now watched this again after so many years I focused more on the character and less on his actions this time around. It was incredible to watch his metamorphosis from a gentle loving husband with liberal views into a fed up terminator of the criminal dregs of New York City. He has a difficult time at first coming to terms with this new dark passenger of his who drives him to lure thugs into arms reach of his bullets but by the end he is quite comfortable with what he has become which of course opened the door for 4 sequels, some good, some not so good.

Some thoughts... the opening beach scene where he frolics with his wife revealed he was in pretty good shape back in 1974 at age 53!

Early role for Christopher Guest and the screen debut of Jeff Goldblum as one of the thugs. He only has a few minutes of screen time and only a couple lines which is just the way I like him! :voodoo:

I'm sure many of people had interesting thoughts running through their heads after watching this movie. The thought of taking matters into your own hands has a lot of appeal and while I don't know if I'd have the gumption to do it myself I certainly don't discourage the idea of ordinary citizens taking out the trash. It would certainly be harder in this day and age to do it without getting caught with so much video surveillance and such these days.

I'll try to take in the sequels in the near future to see how they hold up as I don't remember much about them anymore except for a character in either part 2 or 3 called The Giggler who can outrun anyone all the while laughing while he runs. Turns out he couldn't outrun a bullet!

Stacked: The Complete Series, a review by addicted2dvd

Stacked: The Complete Series

You can't judge a bookstore by its cover girl, especially when she happens to be Pamela Anderson! Anderson stars as drop-dead sexy Skyler Dayton, a reformed party girl in need of a lifestyle makeover, who takes a job at a family-run bookstore called "Stacked Books." Determined to prove she has ample talent beyond her ample talents, Skyler dazzles the employees and customers with her sweet-natured charm and refreshing honesty. This hip, hilarious comedy also features guest appearances by superhotties Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra and includes five unaired episodes that can finally be revealed. You'll bust out laughing!

Episodes:
1. Pilot
2. Beat the Candidate
3. A Fan for all Seasons
4. Gavin's Pipe Dream
5. The Ex-Appeal
6. Nobody Says I Love You
7. Two Faces of Eve
8. Darling Nikki
9. Crazy Ray
10. iPod
11. Heavy Medal
12. Goodwizzle Hunting
13. After Party
14. Romancing the Stones
15. You're Getting Sleepy
16. The Third Date
17. The Day the Music Died
18. Poker
19. The Headmaster

Extras:
  • Nipplegate: Getting Dressed with Pamela
A 7min. documentary about the clothes they have Pamela Anderson almost wear. Plus they throw in a few minutes talking about clothing the other characters. As well as talk about how Pamela had almost constant hard nipples. Is little more then showing clips from the show.
  • Show Us Your Bloopers
A 5min. blooper real... about what you would expect from a show like this. Not much for laughs... but you can tell they had fun on the set.
  • Skyler's Guide to Dating
10min. of clips from the show.

My Thoughts:
Going into this series I found it to be no more then you would expect from the series looking at the title, star and reading the overview. Sure it has some laughs. But it is no more then an immature comedy. It has little more then extremely obvious sexual  innuendos and Pamela Anderson showing off her body. So there is no surprise that it was canceled as early as it was. It was canceled after only 14 episodes... but the entire 19 produced episodes is in the DVD release. Despite what I say here... I still did enjoy this show for what it is. You just can't go looking here for some sort of masterpiece.
