Streets of Fire, a review by GSyren

Streets of Fire (5-028836-040279)
United States 1984 | Released 2013-11-18 on Bluray from Second Sight, Universal City Studios
94 minutes | Aspect ratio 1.85:1 | Audio: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, English PCM 2-Channel Stereo

WALTER HILL'S classic, highly stylized 'rock & roll fable' has gained a huge cult following since its original 1984 release and with its backdrop of rain-drenched, neon-lit streets is one of the most visually iconic films of the decade.

Big time rock singer Ellen Aim is playing her hometown when she is grabbed from the stage by local bike gang The Bombers, led by the menacing Raven. Tom Cody, a tough ex-soldier and Ellen's ex-boyfriend returns home to get her back and he's ready to take on the whole gang.

My thoughts about Streets of Fire:
Maybe I should have bought Walter Hill's The Warriors and have watched it before I watched Streets of Fire, because many people say that Streets of Fire is basically a musical version of The Warriors. Well, I can't comment on that, but I can say that I'm a bit ambivalent about Streets of FireHoney I shrunk the Kids and its sequels). Possibly intentional by Hill, but that just didn't work for me.

All in all, not quite my thing, but still a good enough film experience.
I rate this title

The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship - animal style! Also featuring the voices of Cher, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler and Sylvester Stallone.

  • Outtakes/Bloopers

My Thoughts:
This is one of the ones I borrowed from the library. I mainly wanted to see this one because Kevin James is in it. And I have liked him since first seeing him on King of Queens. This is a fun film. I enjoyed it quite a bit. And it has a lot of famous people doing voices of animals... Nick Nolte (gorilla)... Adam Sandler (monkey)... Sylvester Stallone (lion)... Cher (lioness). This is one I can see adding to my collection. Definitely worth the time put in to watch it.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Pete's Pilots, a review by addicted2dvd

ER
I first wrote ER back in 1974 as a record of my experiernces as a medical student in a hospital emergency room. But it was not until the fall of 1994, 20 years later, that these stories appeared as a new television series. That must surely be the longest creative gestation in modern television, but it was worth it. Audiences found the show to be fast-paced, fresh and real, and it drew a loyal following from it's very first episode. But if past was remarkable, the future was even more so: none of us in those early days of ER could have anticipated it's long and remarkable run as one of the best and most popular television shows in the history of the medium. From it's early days to the the exciting present, it's been one long thrill for me, and I think for audiences as well. Enjoy!

Pilot
Everything is an emergency and every emergency is business as usual as we first meet the young residents and interns at Chicago's County General teaching hospital. Among the events. Greene receives a tempting offer from a prestigious private practice, Benton risks unauthorized surgery in order to save a life, and inexperienced Carter must contend with several unorthodox emergencies on his first day in the ER.

My Thoughts:
This pilot is a double length episode. I have found that I really enjoy medical dramas. ER and Grey's Anatomy are my two favorite medical dramas to date. If there is any others that you would recommend I would love to hear some suggestions. This series really grabs me when I watch it. Now that I watched the pilot I could continue on with the series very easily!
