Road to Singapore, a review by Danae Cassandra

Road to Singapore
Year of Release: 1940
Directed By: Victor Schertzinger
Starring: Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Musical

Overview:Road to SingaporeSingapore was the initial entry in the legendary Hope-Crosby-Lamour Road series that delighted movie goers for over 20 fun-filled years.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun bit of funny, escapist fluff.  Our heroes, two chaps looking for nothing but good times, run away from marriage, work and high society to live as island bums.  There they meet a girl who just might make them change their bachelor ways, if only she didn't make them both feel that way.  The jokes are funny, and Crosby and Hope have great chemistry together and their banter is clever.  Lamour works well with both of them, and is probably about as believably exotic as they were going to cast in 1940.  It feels like there are a lot of songs for the short runtime, but other than that, no complaints.  If you're looking for an amusing little film, and you like old movies, Bing Crosby and/or Bob Hope, this isn't a bad choice.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 3/5

Kick-Ass, a review by dfmorgan

Kick-Ass

Year: 2010
Director: Matthew Vaughn
CastOverviewWatched: 10th Sep 2010
My Thoughts: Following the rave reception this film received here I was looking forward to sitting down and watching it. However as a long-time Daily Mail reader I have usually found that I can trust Christopher Tookey's film reviews and again, with this film, he hasn't let me down. What a total letdown I couldn't find any redeeming features about this film it was just a great big steaming cow-pat of poo!

My Rating: Sorry it has to be 0

The above was written as a joke because so many people here raved about this film. Below is my real thoughts and rating which were originally spoiler tagged to hide them from general view.

My Real Thoughts: What an immensely fun film. I thought that all the main characters came over well and am looking forward to watching it again very soon. As to Mr. Tookey's reviews - Yes I do trust them as, in general, if he dislikes a film I quite often like them and vice versa some he has rated highly I have found to be boring or lacking in the enjoyment factor.

My Real Rating: A very enjoyable 4

Dave

Edited to remove spoiler tag around My Real Thoughts and Rating and to add little expanation between both sets of thoughts and ratings.

Angel: Season 1

7. Bachelor Party
Original Air Date: 11/16/1999

Guest Stars:
Kristin Dattilo
Carlos Jacott
Ted Kairys

My Thoughts:
A good episode... we find out a bit about Doyle's past in this one. Cordelia is really starting to like Doyle by now. But at this point she still don't know he is part demon. At the very end of this episode Doyle has a vision about Buffy... so this must be the prelude to the first time Angel goes back to Buffy for an episode.

My Rating:
