The Breakfast Club, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Emilio Estevez as Andrew Clark Paul Gleason as Richard Vernon Anthony Michael Hall as Brian Johnson John Kapelos as Carl Judd Nelson as John Bender Molly Ringwald as Claire Standish Plot: From writer/director John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science), The Breakfast Club is an iconic portrait of 1980s American high shcool life. When Saturday detention started, they were simply the Jock, the Princess, the Brain, the Criminal and the Basket Case, but by that afternoon they had become closer than any of them could have imagined. Featuring an all-star '80s cast including Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, this warmhearted coming-of-age comedy helped define an entire generation! My Thoughts: I just finished watching this one. It is one of the few well known '80s films that I never seen. And this one is really filled with well known stars. The one that surprised me... I would have never recognized him if they didn't say it in the trailer... is Anthony Michael Hall. I loved him in the TV series The Dead Zone. Anyway... I enjoyed every minute of this one. If you never seen this movie I haighly recommend it! I got this one from the library... so I am hoping I will be able to add it to my collection before too long! My Rating: (From What Movies I Been Watching on January 19th, 2014) The Polar Express, a review by Danae CassandraThe Polar Express Year of Release: 2004 Directed By: Robert Zemeckis Starring: Tom Hanks, Leslie Zemeckis, Eddie Deezen, Nona Gaye, Peter Scolari Genre: Fantasy, Animation Overview:My Thoughts: A personal favorite, and just about my favorite modern (post 1980) Yuletide film (the other being Tokyo Godfathers). This is a film that really puts me in the Yuletide spirit. The animation falls into two categories: absolutely stunning visuals and somewhat off-looking people. I expect the people problem is because of the limits of early mocap, and I find that each year I watch the film I notice less and less that the people don't move right. The environment, however, is brilliantly realized and absolutely magnificent. When we saw this at the IMAX in 3D, the sequences where the train goes downhill on the tracks are fabulous. The use of movement in the film always strikes me, even watching this in 2D. I'd love to see it up on the big screen again. I also really enjoy the characters, especially the girl in the group. She's refreshingly different from most female characters in American animation, breaking stereotypes and being the leader of the group that she is. But all of the main child characters are portrayed rather realistically, which I like. A modern holiday classic - recommended without reservation. Bechdel Test: Fail Mako Mori Test: Pass Overall: 3.75/5 (From Christmas 2016 on December 22nd, 2016) My PILOT Marathon, a review by RichAmerican Gothic - Season One Pilot Sheriff Lucas Buck rules his town with no conscience. After a young girl is murdered, Sheriff Buck seeks custody of the son of a murder suspect. A series bought for my daughters viewing way back when, and OMG what a complete load of drivel it appears after 1 watching. Despite sharing the same writer as the underrated Invasion, it bears no resemblence. I have no real idea what was going on, what the characters were about, and the point of the whole series? If I had of watched this pilot on TV, I'd never have returned to the show. My daughter says this got really good through the series, was quite spooky portraying the fight against good and evil, and is worth persevering with. I won't be doing that in a hurry.
