Holy Man, a review by KinkyCyborgHoly Man Title:Holy Man Year: 1998 Director: Stephen Herek Rating: PG Length: 114 Min. Video: Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1 Subtitles: English Stars: Eddie Murphy Jeff Goldblum Kelly Preston Robert Loggia Jon Cryer Plot: The always hilarious Eddie Murphy (Dr. Dolittle) stars with Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) and Kelly Preston (Jerry Maguire) in a refreshingly funny hit that elevates shopping to a near religious experience! A stressed-out senior executive at the Good Buy home shopping channel, Rick Hayman (Goldblum) is praying for a miracle that will lift the network's lousy ratings and save his job. Then, from out of nowhere, "G" (Murphy) walks into his life! An outrageous, self-styled inspirational guru with a knack for showing up where he isn't exactly wanted, "G" proceeds to wander in front of the cameras 'just long enough' to exude the irrestable star quality that will make him the sales-boosting savior Ricky's network has been looking for! Also featuring a host of well-known celebrities in a sidesplitting series of comic infomercials - you're bound to be another satisfied customer with nothing but praise for Holy Man! Extras: Scene Access Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This wasn't bad with some entertaining bits. Eddie Murphy is actual pretty good in this one in an engaging, understated way. Jeff Goldblum on the other hand is quickly becoming my least favorite actor. This guy has like ZERO range. He looks, talks and acts the same way in every movie and now I am starting to notice how much he resembles a Vulcan. Kelly Preston is predictably sexy and gorgeous once again. Very average, very middle of the road. KC Rating: (From KinkyCyborg's Random Reviews 2011 on July 18th, 2011) Meet John Doe, a review by addicted2dvdMeet John Doe As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed "John Doe," who threatens suicide in protest of social ills. The paper is forced to rehire Ann and hires John Willoughby to impersonate "Doe." Ann and her bosses cynically milk the story for all it's worth, until the made-up "John Doe" philosophy starts a whole political movement. At last everyone, even Ann, takes her creation seriously...but publisher D.B. Norton has a secret plan. My Thoughts: This is one of the movies in that 20 Disc/40 Movie boxset I got free for subscribing to Total Movie Magazine. I enjoyed the movie... though it was a little on the slow side. And it dropped the comedy that was present the first half of the movie. I think without the comedy that the first half had... the show became a little too slow and political for my taste. If it found a way to keep the comedy throughout the movie I think I would have enjoyed it more. Since this movie is a part of that box set I was expecting practically nothing when it came to the quality. But I was presently surprised as the movie looked and sounded very good. The best quality I have seen from that set so far. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Unwatched DVDs on July 31st, 2009) Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdSeason 7: Disc 4 13. HERO Look who's back. Clark is thrilled to catch up with Pete Ross, his old school pal. And he's dismayed to discover Pete has acquired a meteor power that could leave him vulnerable to exploiters like Lex. My Thoughts: This is a good episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was good to see Pete Ross back... been too long without him. I still hope to see him on the show again before it is all over. One thing I have to say about this episode. I don't think they could be more obvious about product placing then they are here. Talk about going overboard. My Rating: 14. TRAVELER My Thoughts: This is a good episode. We now have Supergirl/Kara back. It also makes you wonder if Lionel really is good now or not. My Rating: 15. VERITAS My Thoughts: This is a pretty good episode. Though not as good as the last few. For some reason this one just didn't really hold my interest as much. My Rating: 16. DESCENT Lex is driven to discover the secret of Veritas, even if it sets his life on a path of no redemption...even if it means the murder of someone near to him. Another killer also surfaces, a mysterious figure who may be determined to protect Clark's secret. My Thoughts: I enjoyed this one. It ios time to say goodbye to one of the main cast. Shame... I always liked the character whether he was playing a good guy, a bad guy or if you just weren't sure. My Rating: (From Smallville Marathon on January 13th, 2010) |
