Ghajini, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2008 Director: A. R. Murugadoss Cast: Aamir Khan, Asin, Jiah Khan Overview: Ghajini is the largest grossing Hindi Film of all time. It is the only Indian film to earn One Billion Rupees at the Box Office across India and it Grossed 4 Million US Dollars overseas within a week of it's release. A film about a man with only 15 minutes of memory recall. A man who was once suave, successful and had everything a man could desire. A man who had everything he loved snatched away from him, including his identity by brutal senseless violense. A human being who is forced to become something close to inhuman. A story about his wounded, savage quest for revenge. Driven by the pain of what he once was and had... Watched: 22nd. Jan. 2011 My Thoughts: A very interesting film. A Bollywood song and dance romance but with a very dark edge. The story is well told and the film's constuction helps to maintain the story with the film having two halves with two big sections forming each half. These sections are the lighter side of the film being that they are about the romance. However they are each bookended by the dark side of the film with Sanjay (Aamir Khan) dealing with his short term memory loss and its cause. Parallels can be drawn with Memento as that also deals with short term memory loss and the protagonist's, both here and there, handle it in similar ways but I would have to rewatch Memento before I can reach any real conclusions. My Rating: A interesting 4 (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on January 22nd, 2011) Hellboy, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Hellboy Year: 2004 Director: Guillermo Del Toro Rating: PG-13 Length: 122 Min. Video: Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: English, French Stars: Ron Perlman John Hurt Selma Blair Rupert Evans Karel Roden Plot: As dark forces gather to hasten the Apocalypse, Hellboy fire with fire in this mind-blasting-supernatural action adventure from the visionary director of Blade 2, Based on the celebrated Dark Horse comic book. Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Trailers Featurettes DVD-ROM Content Closed Captioned Video Introduction by Guillermo del Toro My Thoughts: This is one I bought blind when it was recommended to me by a few different people. After watching it I am glad I added it to my collection. The movie is a lot of fun. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Of course it is not a movie to be taken seriously. Just something fun to waste a couple hours with. If you try to over think this one... that will do nothing but take away from the enjoyment. Since I never seen the comics I couldn't tell you how well this movie follows them. Now I need to see if Hellboy II is still on On-Demand. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2DVD's November Alphabet Marathon on November 10th, 2009) The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ DoenaJAG What's the show about? The JAG ist the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Navy. They are charged with the defense and prosecution of military law as provided in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. We follow the cases of Lt. Harmon Rabb jr., a former fighter pilot and his partner Maj. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie all around the world. "Pilot" The CAG of the aircraft carrier USS Seahawk and his female Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) shoot down two MIGs over the Adriatic Sea. In the night after that the RIO is being thrown overboard and killed. Lt Rabb and Lt. jg. Pike take over the investigation of the missing RIO... My Opinion This show had its highs and its lows. Being not an US-american the patriotism was sometimes a bit to much for my taste, especially when it came to the Iraq war. Also that "we are the best of the best of the best"-attitude was an overdose at times. But in the big picture I liked the show.
