Summary:
Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson), a successful sporting goods store owner, accepts the job of basketball coach for his old high school in a poor area of Richmond, CA, where he was a champion athlete. As much dismayed by the poor attitudes of his players as well as their dismal play performance, Carter sets about to change both. He immediately imposes a strict regime typified in written contracts that include stipulations for respectful behavior, a dress code and good grades as requisites to being allowed to participate. The initial resistance from the boys is soon dispelled as the team under Carter's tutelage becomes a undefeated competitor in the games. However, when the overconfident team's behavior begins to stray and Carter learns that too many players are doing poorly in class, he takes immediate action. To the outrage of the team, the school and the community, Carter cancels all team activities and locks the gym until the team shows acceptable academic improvement...

My Thoughts:
Yet another movie on how discipline and a positive role-model (in combination with a replacement father) can solve all problems. I guess there has to be one for every sport.

This is a quite entertaining sports movie on Highschool-Basketball, not more, not less.
The story as such is well known and highly predictable, nevertheless it has some twitches that keep you interested.
The few occasions on which this flick begins to shine is when Coach Carter is meeting the disaffected faculty and tries to motivate them again.

A nice movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Dressed to Kill (1946)
A convicted thief in Dartmoor prison hides the location of the stolen Bank of England printing plates inside three music boxes. When the innocent purchasers of the boxes start to be murdered, Holmes and Watson investigate.

My Thoughts:
all the sudden I got in the mood for some classic Sherlock Holmes movies. I haven't seen many of these... matter of fact I have 3 in my collection I never seen. I got this movie in the free 20 Disc 40 movie boxset I got for subscribing to Total Movie Magazine. So I thought I would at least work on those some today. It is the first time I ever seen this movie. It wasn't a bad movie... but I have seen better. The ending was kind of sudden and a bit contrived. Quality has been bad to decent in this boxset. This one the quality was ok... but definitely could have been better. There is some film damage that was  never cleaned.

I just finished season 5 of Supernatural. Over all I enjoyed it quite a bit. Though I have to admit the whole angels storyline did start to get old to me. But then I have always preferred the "monster of the week" type episodes over the season long arcs. But that is something that usually tends to be true... no matter the series I am watching. I got a kick out of the episode Changing Channels where the brothers are put into a fantasy world which they are characters to different television series. Fictional television series... but ones that are very similar to real ones. Despite the whole angel storyline... this series remains one of my favorite current series. It is a series I highly recommend.
