Kiss daddy goodbye, a review by Jimmy

Title : Kiss daddy goodbye (1981)

Overview
In a small quiet seaside town, two gifted children are left to fend for themselves after a gang of outlaw bikers murders their father. But when these twins, who have inherited their deceased mother's supernatural powers, decide to ressurect their father's corpse, the town will awaken to a series of bizarre murders. As the local sheriff tries to uncover the mystery behind the strange killings, the children begin to lose control of their powers and stop at nothing to avenge their father's death.

My Impression
Nothing really special here... Feels almost like a tv movie since we see no blood when somebody is shot or stab (weird since the film is rated R). The story is really badly developed and not really interesting. A really poor Marilyn Burns performance as usual (except for TCM she had never impress me), an old teen idol (Fabian) in the principal role, two annoying kids who takes 80% of the screen time (but the little girl is cute) and the less impressive 3 bikers club ever seen on screen.

The dvd quality is ordinary; full of tape defect (remaster my ass) and fullscreen... doesn't worth the 2$ I've paid for it.

The Number 23, a review by RossRoy

Country: United States

What they say
Jim Carrey and Virginia Madsen star in the year's most "mind-bending" (Pete Hammond, 'Maxim') psychological thriller directed by Joel Schumacher.

The nightmare begins when Walter (Carrey), a mild-mannered dogcatcher, begins reading a tattered, used book called 'The Number 23'. Obsessed by the countless similarities between the degenerate main character and himself, Walter plunges headlong into the same dark, seductive world. When the book's main character commits an unspeakable act, Walter is terrified that he's destined to follow the same twisted path.

My Thoughts
I quite enjoyed that one. I think it is a nice little thriller. And as with many other thrillers, there's the obligatory twist at the ending, which I sort of saw coming, and yet I was still surprised by it. I also felt the urge to watch it again to try and catch the little clues that are scattered throughout the movie. I think it deserves a watch, it may not win any awards, but it's good. I loved Jim Carey in the leading role. I find I like him much more in his dramatic work than his comedy, i.e. Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and now The Number 23. Virginia Madsen is just as beautiful as ever.

Doctor Who Marathon, a review by Tom

Doctor Who
Series 1.03 The Unquiet Dead
Writer: Mark Gatiss (Writer)
Director: Euros Lyn
Cast: Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler), Alan David (Gabriel Sneed), Huw Rhys (Redpath), Jennifer Hill (Mrs Peace), Eve Myles (Gwyneth), Simon Callow (Charles Dickens), Wayne Cater (Stage Manager), Meic Povey (Driver), Zoe Thorne (The Gelth)

Originally I only wanted to watch one Doctor Who episode today. But then I saw that Eve Myles guest starred in this episode. I now know her from the main cast of Torchwood. Her character here is very different. If I hadn't read the name, I am not sure if I would have recognized her. Even though knowing it is her, it is rather obvious. She did a good job.

This episode reintroduces the concept, that when the doctor travels to the earth's path, he usually encounters an alien life form, from which he has to save humankind. It is a good episode, even though I am not much a fan of "ghost" stories.
