My Thoughts: I have stumbled across this movie multiple times. Either because I was looking for Bollywood time-travel movies, or because I was looking up DVD releases with Priyanka Chopra. At first glance this always stood out as a movie which could be fun. But every time I looked up reviews and they were mostly bad, I decided against buying it (it even rates below 3.0 on IMDb). But after recently watching "Pyaar Impossible!" and really enjoying it, I was in the mood for another Priyanka Chopra movie and I finally took the chance. Sadly I must agree that this movie really isn't any good. It has fairly good production values (which surprised me for Bollywood's first futuristic movie), but the screenplay was really weak. Even Priyanka Chopra couldn't save it for me. She didn't seem to be really into the role. I have seen her bring in wonderful performances (mainly in "Pyaar Impossible!" and "What's Your Raashee?"), so I know she can do better. The male star is a newcomer. The director's son. He very much looks like Hrithik Roshan and sounds awfully close to him. Hrithik Roshan also got his start in a movie shot by his father. So both have these things in common, but while Hrithik Roshan really has a lot of talent, Harman Baweja comes across like a ripoff. What I first didn't notice was, that Harman Baweja was also the star in "What's Your Raashee?" (which was released later). In that movie he was better and didn't come across like doing a Hrithik Roshan impression. So in short: The movie looks good. Art direction is good. Production design is good. Screenplay is terrible. Good direction is missing. Acting ranges from bad to slightly above average. Rating: (From Tom's Time-Travel Movie Reviews on April 14th, 2011) Speed, a review by DJ DoenaDirector: Jan de Bont Keanu Reeves ... Officer Jack Traven Dennis Hopper ... Howard Payne Sandra Bullock ... Annie Porter Joe Morton ... Capt. McMahon Jeff Daniels ... Det. Harold 'Harry' Temple Alan Ruck ... Stephens Synopsis: Jack and Harry work with the L.A. Police Bomb Squad and they just managed to save 13 people from a rigged elevator. They believe the bomber to be dead until he calls again. Now he has mined the bus 2525 which will explode as soon as it drives faster than 50 miles per hour and then falls under that speed limit. While Harry tries to find the bomber, Jack tries to rescue the passengers - among them Annie Porter, who drives the bus. My Opinion: A cool piece of action cinema with a lot of car stunts (and a flying bus!). It's watch-worthy based alone on the sheer amount of things, cars, planes and subways that get destroyed over the course of this movie. (From DJ Doena's movie watchings 2010 on January 30th, 2010) "Stargate SG-1" Marathon, a review by DJ DoenaDisc 4 The Devil You Know Synopsis: SG-1 is in hell. Their plan to escape didn't work after Apophis had unexpectedly risen from the dead. And he needs a dead pledge to prevent Sokar from executing him. But the Tok'ra have also a plan B: They intend to blow up Ne'tu.My Opinion: Cool continuation. Apophis managed to save his skin again. I also liked the hallucination sequences due to the "Blood of Sokar". Foothold Synopsis: After SG-1 returns from a mission something strange happens: Teal'c awakes in the infirmary and overhears a conversation between General Hammond and an unknown alien. There are two possibilities: Either the base has been overtaken or they have been exposed to a dangerous chemical that causes hallucinations. My Opinion: When I watched the episode for the first time, until a certain point it was unclear to me which one is the truth, especially with the argument between Jack and Maybourne. What I like about such disguise devices is that they can actually change the size and form of a person. Pretense Synopsis: Klorel crashes with a Deathglider on the Tollan homeworld. For a short moment, Skaara is in control of his body and he asks the Tollans for help. They agree to hear both sides. My Opinion: A great episode. I love episodes with court hearings, especially when you could agree with both sides. I also liked the split where Daniel argues with logic and Jack with his heart. I thought this episode stands in one row with Star Trek TNG's The Measure of a Man. Regrettably we haven't seen Omac (Enigma) again. Urgo Synopsis: SG-1 can't remember being on a planet for 15 hours. But then they find a microscopic device implanted into their brains. It generates an audio-visual hologram that only SG-1 can see and hear: Urgo.My Opinion: Dom DeLuise (Cannonball Run, father of Peter DeLuise) is too funny as Urgo. I had a really good laugh, it was a great fun episode. (From "Stargate SG-1" Marathon on March 17th, 2008) |
