The Tomb of Ligeia, a review by Danae Cassandra

The Tomb of Ligeia
Year of Release: 1964
Directed By: Roger Corman
Starring: Vincent Price, Elizabeth Shepherd, John Westbrook, Derek Francis, Oliver Johnston
Genre: Horror

Overview:
Roger Corman and Vincent Price hook up for horror in Edgar Allan Poe's "most terrifying" (L.A. Herald Examiner) tale of passion, possession and PURR-fect evil! When a dead wife sinks her claws into immortality – and comes back as a ferocious feline – she leads her husband's (Price) new bride on a deadly game of cat and mouse. And when the fur starts flying, she soon learns that even in death...she can land on her feet!

My Thoughts:
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Vincent Price?  I do, I adore him.  He's one of my all-time favorites, and he certainly doesn't disappoint here.  All of the cast give very performances, but Price is always the absolute star.  It's old-fashioned Gothic horror, so there's very little blood and no gore. The film relies on atmosphere, and in that it's perfect, filled with unseen menace and creepy details.  This is one of my favorite of Price's films, and it's better with a re-watch.  Highly recommended!

Note on the blu-ray:  While I would have liked to see Shout! Factory clean up the PBS opening and closing pieces they included as extras (which look like they were ported over from VHS), the film itself is absolutely beautiful, with wonderful color and depth; well worth the upgrade from the old Midnite Movies release I had on DVD.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 4/5

2015 Horror Movie Count: 1

On the Beach, a review by Rich

Underwater to Alaska...

Title: On the Beach

Runtime:198
Certificate:15
Year:2000
Genres:Science-Fiction, Drama, Television

Plot:It's 2006 and most of the world has been devastated by a catastrophic atomic war between China and America. Billions have been wiped out.
Australia is the only refuge for survivors, but radioactive fallout is drifting alarmingly closer. Anarchy and chaos are taking over as tension builds on the loot-ridden streets.
There is one glimmer of hope, a lone American submarine led by Commander Dwight Towers (Armand Assante) sets off in the desesperate search for a faint radio message traced to Alaska.
Their mission is chilling. They see the brutal devastation of the war. Can they see off the end of the world as we know it?
"On the Beach" is based on Nevil Shute's classic novel warning of a terrifying possible future.
This heartbreaking yet exhilarating epic stars ARMAND ASSANTE (Striptease, Hoffa), his love interest is played by RACHEL WARD (Double Jeopardy). Also co-starring STEVE BASTONI (Matrix Reloaded) and BRYAN BROWN (Cocktail).

My Review:
Remake of Kramers classic which starred Peck, Gardner and Astaire. Enjoyed this film, but whoa how depressing is this story! Not the greatest acting or cast list (good to see the lovely Jacqueline Mackenzie :heat:) but Shute's story pulls it through. Let's be honest, we all grumble about sickly Hollywood happy endings, but when they aren't there you feel a bit gloomy! I will hunt down the original now for comparison, for this remake I would recommend it if bought from a bargain bin or to watch on cable/tv.

NCIS Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

NCIS Marathon
Season 1 of 6
I have been a long time fan of JAG... so I was thrilled to hear there would be a spin-off. And let me tell you... this series did not disappoint... I am still completely hooked on the series. and was so since the very first episode. I adore all the characters on this show. That alone says something. I have never personally been attracted in any way to Goth women... but I have to admit... Abbey ended up being a first... she is absolutely adorable. Then I found out that she is a real life Goth... and that kinda flipped me out. But anyway... this is a great show I highly recommend.

NCIS: Season 1: Disc 1

1. YANKEE WHITE
A Navy commander carrying the "football" on Air Force One collapses mid-flight and dies.

My Thoughts:
This is a start of an awesome series.  I have been hooked since day one... when this episode first aired. I really enjoyed every one of the main characters from the very first episode. There is not many shows you can say that about. I also really liked how they introduced  Kate. And Gibbs... he is just a trip! I don't know what I would call his type of humor... sarcastic don't seem to fit it right... but what ever you would call it... it is another thing that brings me back episode after episode. In this episode there is an elaborate plan to try to kill the president on Air Force One.

2. HUNG OUT TO DRY
A Marine is killed during a night training jump, and Gibbs (Mark Harmon) thinks it's a murder.

My Thoughts:
This was another really good episode. Talk about a terrible way to die! I couldn't imagine... Of course it would be hard being the couple that was in the SUV as well. I had to laugh on how DiNozzo finally got to try sky diving. That is something that looks awful fun... yet completely scary to me. I myself have never even seen a plane close up let alone fly in one!

3. SEADOG
A Navy sailor is killed, an apparent casualty of a drug war, but Gibbs and his team refuse to believe the sailor was dirty,

My Thoughts:
Another really good episode. I really get a kick out of all the bluffs and such Gibbs pulls on this show. His character is one tough SOB!... but at the same time you can tell he really cares about people.

4. THE IMMORTALS
A young sailor is found drowned In what appears to be a video game gone wrong.

My Thoughts:
OK... I have to admit... I for one have never seen the appeal these online games has. Sure I enjoy playing a video game here and there... but never had the urge to play something online with thousands of other people. Give me a console hooked up to a TV and a one player game that I can play here and there when the mood hits... and that is all I need. and talk about taking the game to the next level... These sailors were right nuts! Pretty cool episode though.
