The Man with Two Brains, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: The Man with Two Brains
Year: 1983
Director: Carl Reiner
Rating: R
Length: 90 Min.
Video: Pan & Scan 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital Mono
Subtitles: N/A

Stars:
Steve Martin as Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr
Kathleen Turner as Dolores Benedict
David Warner as Dr. Necessiter
Paul Benedict as Butler
Richard Brestoff as Dr. Pasteur

Plot:
It's comedy that's out of its mind (and the drunk-driving test is really, really hard!). Director Carl Reiner and star Steve Martin put their manic brains together in The Man with Two Brains, spoofing mad-scientist movies with a madder scientist: Dr. Hfuhruhurr (Martin), smitten with a disembodied brain he plans to implant into a curvaceous vixen (Kathleen Turner).

Extras:
Scene Access
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:
Going into this movie I really couldn't remember if I had seen it before. It is hard to remember all the movies you seen almost 30 years ago. After getting part way through it I realized I never seen the movie before. Unfortunately I didn't care much for this one.  It may have had a laugh or two... but it was just a little too silly for my taste.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

House on Haunted Hill, a review by addicted2dvd

House on Haunted Hill
One night in the house, one million bucks, no questions asked. But there is a catch for anyone who accepts the offer. Murder is a way of life at the 'House on Haunted Hill', a jolting, effects-ramped remake of the 1959 cult classic that starred Vincent Price and was directed by screen horror legend William Castle. Geoffrey Rush plays twisted theme park bigshot Steven Price, who's hosting a scary/jokey birthday bash for his wife (Famke Janssen) at an abandoned institute for the criminally insane. Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson, Peter Gallagher and Chris Kattan portray strangers mysteriously assembled for the event that could make them all very rich. Or profoundly dead. And you? We won't start the party without you.

My Thoughts:
I remember when I first heard they were making this movie. All I could say at the time was WHY!?!?! But after watching it I decided that even though a remake wasn't needed... they did a pretty good job on it. I did (and still do) enjoy it. That is not to say it is as good as the original... because there is no way it could be. In the original Vincent Price was perfect in the role... and Geoffrey Rush just didn't cut it in my opinion. I do like how they changed the role name to Stephen Price.... a little homage to Vincent Price there? But other then that it is a decent horror movie.... I would even say above average.

My Rating:
Out of a possible 5:

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 1: Disc 5:

17. REAPER
Angel of mercy or death? After a Kryptonite-related incident gives a young man the ability to kill via mere touch, he sets out to use his newfound power on people who are gravely ill.

My Thoughts:
Another really good episode. enjoyed every minute of it. Though I do feel the ending left some to be desired. I just didn't care for how the Freak of the Week was stopped.

18. DRONE
running on the platform of "truth, justice and... other stuff," Clark vias for class president. But a beekeeping rival contender vows Clark and the other aspirants will feel the sting of her candidacy.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode but nothing really in it that I would call special. Just a good 45min of Smallville entertainment.

19. CRUSH
After a hit-and-run accident that destroys his drawing hand, a cartoonist is left with bitterness, pain... and an unexpected gift of telekinesis that he turns into an instrument of revenge.

My Thoughts:
This is a really good episode that had a lot to do with my favorite character (Chloe). I also liked the effects of the drawing of Chloe with the telekinesis. I remember when this season originally aired I hoped to see Clark and Chloe to get together.. at least for a while.

20. OBSCURA
Lana has eerie visions involving a kidnapping of Chloe. Lex's ongoing inquiry into the mystery surrounding Clark takes an intriguing turn when a crop duster reveals what he saw fall from the sky during the Smallville Meteor shower.

My Thoughts:
Going from Chloe being emotionally hurt to her being physically in trouble. This is an excellent episode... one of my favorites of the season. This is also the first look at the metal octagon that becomes so important in the series.
