Sunshine Cleaning, a review by goodguy
Cover blurb: Academy Award Nominee Amy Adams, Golden Globe Winner Emily Blunt, and Academy Award Winner Alan Arkin find an unexpected way to turn their lives around in this "colorful, refreshingly quirky comic drama" (Leah Rozen, People). Desperate to get her son into a better school, single mom Rose (Amy Adams) persuades her slacker sister Norah (Emily Blunt) to join her in the crime scene cleanup business to make some quick cash. With the help of their ill-fated salesman father (Alan Arkin), they climb the ranks in a very dirty job, finding themselves up to their elbows in murders, suicides, and... specialized situations. But underneath the dust and grime they also come to discover a true respect for one another, and create a brighter future for the entire Lorkowski family. "Quirky" is pretty much an indie staple nowadays, and while this one doesn't exactly disappoint, it is a bit too well-calculated as an audience pleaser. Amy Adams and Emily Blunt are both gifted actresses and give strong performances. Adams has the more interesting role while Blunt is a bit underused, especially since a side plot involving her and the tech girl from 24 (name?) ends rather abruptly. All in all, pretty light fare, but nontheless worth watching. (From goodguy's Watch Log on October 4th, 2009) Plan 9 from Outer Space, a review by RossRoyPlan 9 from Outer Space
What they say Starring Gregory Walcott, Lyle Talbot, Mona McKinnon, Dudley Manlove, Conrad Brooks, Paul Marco, Vampira, Tor Johnson, Norma McCarty Wood, Criswell, John "Bunny" Brekenridge and special ghost star Bela Lugosi. Executive Producer: J. Edward Reynolds. Written, produced and directed by Edward D. Wood, Jr. This is it! The most popular Atomic Age cult film of the 20th century. Winner of two Golden Turkey Awards for Worst Picture and Worst Director of All Time, the immortal Edward D. Wood, Jr.! It's all here, the not-so-special efects, aliens in skating skirts zooming around in string-powered flying saucers to implement the ninth plan of Earth's conquest (the first eight failed) with an army of zombies (well, three actually): Vampira, Tor Johnson and Bela Lugosi in his legendary "postmortem" performance (with Ed's chiropractor standing in for Bela after his death). This truly original movie, Ed Wood's 'Citizen Kane', is a hymn to all those who have ever tried to create something intelligent and meaningful and failed miserably every step of the way. My Thoughts Is that for real? I mean, how can a single movie be that bad? I tried. I really tried. But I just can't see what the so-bad-its-good crowd sees in this. I honestly never thought I would find something bad enough for me to almost quit halfway (I didn't, I watched it through and through). And you know what? This is 1h20m or so of my life I'll never get back. My Thoughts: I just finished the second season. And still can't seem to stop watching! I am so enjoying revisiting this series. This is a very good season... with lots of familiar faces. Here is some of the guest stars in this season... - Bronson Pinchot - Peter Boyle - Denise Crosby - Cindy Williams - Denise Richards - Isobel Sanford - Sherman Helmsly - Raquel Welch - Robert Culp - John Kapelos - Bruce Campbell - Martin Mull - Ben Stein - Frank Gorshin - Adam West So... Like I said this season has a lot of familiar faces. This season also has the first episode with H.G. Wells and Tempus. Those are definitely among the best episodes. Now off to start watching season 3! I can't believe how hooked I got on this series again! My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on August 5th, 2011) |
