2012, a review by RossRoy

2012
WHAT THEY SAY
From Roland Emmerich, director of The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day, comes the ultimate action-adventure movie, exploding with groundbreaking special effects. As the world faces a catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions, cities collapse and continents crumble. 2012 brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
Starring John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson.

MY THOUGHTS
CGI fest. An excuse to destroy the Earth, yet again.

They want it to be a sort of modern retelling of Noah's Ark.. but in the end, the "plot" is there to show chaos, mayhem and destruction. Nothing more. It's along the very same lines as Day After Tomorrow...  :hmmmm:

One Night Stand, a review by Rich

One Night Stand

Max is a happily married and successful man with two healthy children. However, on a business trip to New York, he meets the beautiful Karen and they embark on a brief affair. On his return home he finds his life different and he begins to withdraw from the people closest to him, even though he and Karen had vowed to forget the relationship. A year later he returns to New York to comfort his hospitalised best-friend and finds himself face-to-face with Karen...

Better than I anticipated, Snipes was the wrong lead for this film, but the other characters were convincing, and Downey in particular gives a strong and moving performance.
A good storyline, basically an inter-racial NY romance, developing into more following the surprise meeting of the couple with their partners at a dying mans hospital bed.
I am not to aware of Mike Figgis' work, but on the back of this will try and source Leaving Las Vegas, which critically was more successful than this movie.

My Thoughts:
This is a short lived series that I never missed when it originally aired just last year. Unfortunately it was canceled after only 10 episodes. I originally started watching this series because of Amber Tamblyn... who I liked on the show Joan of Arcadia. I soon found that I liked all the characters. The Unusuals is a good title for this group of misfit cops. The series is a nice blend of cop drama and comedy. One of my favorite things in this series is at the beginning of every episode you hear the dispatcher saying something silly or funny to the cops. This is also often used after commercial breaks as well. In my opinion the episodes are consistently very good. There is not an episode I didn't enjoy.

The DVD release itself is good considering it is such a short lived series. Audio and Video is in good condition... at least as good as it looked when it aired on TV. The extras are kind of sparse. But there is a decent, although short featurette. It runs for about 5 minutes... and has a nice mixture of info from both cast and crew members. It could have better info in it... but it is OK considering that it is such a short lived series. Then there is a few trailers for other DVD releases. Over all I am glad I got this release added to my collection. If you are interested in checking out this series... you will have to order it from Amazon.com... as it is an Amazon Exclusive release.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
