The Freshman, a review by Antares

The Freshman (1925) 4/5 - I'm ashamed to admit it, but I purchased all three volumes of the Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection, and up until today, had only watched his comedy shorts from those sets. Well, TCM was doing a birthday tribute to Lloyd who was born on this day back in 1893. I started to watch Lloyd's most successful feature The Freshman, without any thought of finishing it, but by the mid-point of the film, I was hooked. I now can understand Lloyd's popularity during the high times of silent slapstick. He was an amalgamation of the three other popular silent clowns of the time, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harry Langdon. From Langdon, you get the childlike naivete, from Chaplin, the pathos and from Keaton, the incredible physical agility. But whereas each of those performers plied their trade using those singular attributes predominantly in their work, Lloyd was able to move from mood to mood keeping this film fresh and rolling along. I'm now looking forward to finally putting those shiny discs into my DVD player and checking out his other feature films.

Plot:
Ghajini is the largest grossing Hindi film of all time. It is the only Indian film to earn one billion rupees at the box office across India and it grossed 4 million US dollars overseas within a week of its release.

A film about a man with only 15 minutes of memory recall. A man who was once suave, successful and had everything a man could desire. A man who had everything he loved snatched away from him, including his identity by brutal senseless violence. A human being who is forced to become something close to inhuman. A story about his wounded, savage quest for revenge. Driven by the pain of what he once was and had...

The screenplay was written after the author first heard about Memento. After the screenplay was finished, he watched Memento, and he decided that his screenplay is different enough to Memento to warrant an own movie.
And he is right. Except the fact that the main protagonist has short-term memory loss because of an attack in which is fiancé was killed and he badly wounded, and the fact that he takes polaroids to remember stuff and tattoo his body, this movie takes a different take on the premise.
Like I had expected, it did not switch the scenes around like in Memento. Instead we only get flashbacks which tell the story before the accident. The present day shows us how he is going after the murder of his fiancé with a vengeance.
The flashback story is a fun romantic comedy type story of how he met his fiancé. And it shows the happenings which lead to the attack.
The present day is a much more violent movie than Memento. For some reason these two greatly different styles work very well together in this movie. Also Aamir Khan did a great job potraying both incarnations of his character.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

EPISODE 1: BUFFY VS. DRACULA
An uneasy encounter with the legendary Count Dracula leaves Buffy desiring to learn more about herself and thus asking Giles to once again be her Watcher.

My Thoughts:
This is another of my all time favorite episodes. It is an episode you knew from the beginning of the series that they just had to do!.. and I think they did a great job with it. I think Nicholas Brendon (Xander) played his part in this episode perfectly... to the point of stealing the show. He was just hilarious in it. I also had to laugh when Giles wanted to jump back into the pit with the 3 sister vampires.

EPISODE 2: REAL ME
As Dawn begins a journal recounting her life with the Slayer, she encounters a madman who tells her she "doesn't belong" and a group of vampires led by Harmony.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode to introduce the character Dawn... Buffy's little sister. When I got my very first look at Dawn I thought it was going to be too big of a change and was the beginning of the end of the series... but I was proven wrong. I found myself really liking her from her very first episode. Though it did take me a little getting used to the whole idea of who she was and how she was just added the way she was.

EPISODE 3: THE REPLACEMENT
When Xander blocks a Toth demon's magical blast from hitting Buffy, he wakes up the next day to find a doppelganger has taken over his life.

My Thoughts:
More of a fun episode then anything else... Nicholas Brendan once again gets to show off his talent.

EPISODE 4: OUT OF MY MIND
As Riley's friends beg him to see a medical specialist at Sunnydale General hospital, Harmony and Spike kidnap the same specialist with hopes he can remove Spike's chip.

My Thoughts:
This is a decent episode..  not one of my favorites... It is more of an episode to tie up some loose ends from last seasons main story line.
