The Matrix, a review by DJ Doena

October, 30th

Keanu Reeves   ...    Neo
Laurence Fishburne   ...    Morpheus
Carrie-Anne Moss   ...    Trinity
Hugo Weaving   ...    Agent Smith
Gloria Foster   ...    Oracle
Joe Pantoliano   ...    Cypher
Marcus Chong   ...    Tank

Synopsis: By day, Thomas Anderson is a software programmer in a respectable company. By night, Neo is a hacker. For years he's been searching for an answer to a question that is gnawing in his mind: What is the Matrix? The answer to that question is beyond anything he could have imagined and will change his life forever. And it will change not only him, but the world.

My Opinion: It's still a great movie and was certainly a milestone in film's history. Just the amount of movies that have re-used or parodied the bullet-time effect is incredible. The effect scenes like the shoot-out in the foyer or the final battle between Agent Smith and Neo are wonderfully choreographed. And you can even see the details because there are not 20 cuts and angle changes in 30 seconds like in more modern action flicks.

The Haunted Mansion , a review by Dragonfire

The Haunted Mansion

From the studio that brought you Pirates Of The Caribbean...here's the fright-filled comedy adventure loaded with hair-raising laughs and eye-popping special effects! Eddie Murphy (Daddy Day Care) stars as a real estate agent whose family comes face to face with 999 grim, grinning ghosts in the creepy old Gracey Manor! Now, with the help of supernatural psychic Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly - Liar, Liar), they must hilariously battle to break the mansion of its age-old curse...and do it before the clock strikes 13!

My Thoughts

This is another movie based on a ride at Disney.  I've never been on the ride.  The plot is interesting and I think it makes an entertaining family friendly haunted house movie.  There are all sorts of ghosts in the movie, but nothing that happens is that scary.  A few things might be a little scarier to younger kids, so parents may want to check it out first.

The actors are fine in their parts, though Eddie Murphy can be a little annoying at times.

Overall, I enjoy the movie and think it is a good family friendly movie to watch around Halloween.

I did get a review posted on Epinions after I saw the movie in the theater originally.

Length:174 min.
Video:Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78
Audio:English: Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
Subtitles:English

Plot:
BAFTA winning comedy about the Slough paper-merchant where life is stationery...
David Brent (Ricky Gervais) is a petty, pompous boss who thinks he's the funniest, most popular man in the world. Pedantic jobsworth Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) agrees with him.

They're both wrong.

Tim (Martin Freeman) really is popular and funny but the joke is on him, as he's stuck in the middle of their little world - a world in which he hates everything except the receptionist Dawn (Lucy Davis). Will Tim escape? Will Dawn choose the right man? Will MI6 ever call on Gareth to help them out? And will David Brent ever regret letting a film crew into The Office?

The Office
1.01 Downsize
Writer: Ricky Gervais (Writer), Stephen Merchant (Writer)
Director: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant
Cast: Ricky Gervais (David Brent), Martin Freeman (Tim Canterbury), Mackenzie Crook (Gareth Keenan), Lucy Davis (Dawn Tinsley), Oliver Chris (Ricky Howard), Stirling Gallacher (Jennifer Taylor-Clark), Joel Beckett (Lee), Robin Hooper (Malcolm), Paul Sharma (Sanj), Yvonne D'Alpra (Joan), Ben Bradshaw (Ben), Angela Clerkin (Jackie), Jamie Deeks (Jamie), Neil Fitzmaurice (Alex), Jane Lucas (Sheila), Ewen MacIntosh (Keith), Emma Manton (Emma), Alexander Perkins (Ralph), Phillip Pickard (Phillip)

A great series. Though this is more of a one-man show than the American remake. When they started to make the American remake, I thought they will never get it to work as well as here. But I have to admit, that I enjoy the American version even more. But only after they started doing their own thing instead of trying to recapture what was done in the original series.
