It's not exactly time travel as such, but I can well recommend Frequency. Doesn't seem to be mentioned often, but I really liked it. It's predictable and the ending is very loose, but it's great fun.I like Fequency. Not sure if it will be part of this marathon though.

I love this movie! It's the first title I thought of when I saw you start this marathon. I didn't want to influence your choices, so I didn't say anything. I'm from San Francisco, so movies filmed here are always a treat. I do know what you mean about her voice though. In my mind, I can still hear her saying "Herbert...Herbert..." over and over.

My thoughts:
I liked this movie. Only real problem I have with it, is with the character played by Mary Steenburgen. She is too soft-spoken and too quick to fall in love with this strange man she has just met.
A fun light-hearted comedy which plays nicely with time-travel. Making things appear because they decide to put it there in the future :)You mean, in the past.

My thoughts:You have mentioned this so often now, that I will try to find the DVD in Hong Kong (which has English subtitles too) when I am there in early March.
What can I say about this movie? I simply love it! It became my favorite movie of last year. Even though I saw it 3 times during the last 6 months I had to include it in this marathon. I like it how in the beginnings the time jumps are simply played for fun but it gets more serious as the movie goes on. Sadly there is no RC1 release yet, but it is said to be coming this year. I recommend to watch out for it! Also there is a Korean 3-disc release with English subtitles available (the German release has only German and Polish subtitles).
My thoughts:No reason...? He was a mean bastard before and needed to relive that one day until he became a good person and fell in love with that chick. They didn't spell out the reason (which is good), but there certainly was one.
One of my all-time favorite movies! And it was a good call that the writers did not try to invent a reason why Phil relives the day.
Have you seen Butterfly Effect before? If not, don't torture yourself. I thought it was dreadful! Nice idea, but overplayed and the ending is just ridiculous.I kinda liked it.
Butterfly Effect:Thanks so far! Could you remind me which is which, too? Although by gut feeling I'd say it was the second one I preferred.(click to show/hide)
My thoughts:Oh, missed reading this one before... I remember seeing this in the cinema once and thought it was really cool (I was really young). However, I seem to remember that somehow that ending didn't make any sense at all. Something like, that the dog shouldn't have recognized the guy in the car (if this doesn't make sense to you right now, I probably remembered the ending a little wrong). Anyway, I thought the ending bent the time travel logic too far...(?)
Well executed time-travel movie which deals with the question, if they should interfere with history or not when given the chance. And typical: They lost quite a few crew members but only think of the commander in the end, when they only believe they have lost him. What about the other casualities? :-\

This was it for this marathon. 14 movies in 3 Days! I think this is a record for me. The following movies were also on my list but will have to wait for another time.
You absolutely have to add Il Mare to your list. It's not the usual time travel flick and the story is played and executed very well.Do you mean this one (http://german.imdb.com/title/tt0282599/)? I liked "The Lake House" so I will definetely look out for it. Thanks!
Have you seen Butterfly Effect before? If not, don't torture yourself. I thought it was dreadful! Nice idea, but overplayed and the ending is just ridiculous.Yes, I have seen it before (otherwise I wouldn't have bought the critically dissed Butterfly Effect 2). I really liked the first part (preferrably the DC ending). The second part I do not remember much anymore, so I am not sure if I liked it or not.
You have mentioned this so often now, that I will try to find the DVD in Hong Kong (which has English subtitles too) when I am there in early March.
Yes, I meant I am glad they did not try to give a scientific or other reason like gypsy curse or such.My thoughts:No reason...? He was a mean bastard before and needed to relive that one day until he became a good person and fell in love with that chick. They didn't spell out the reason (which is good), but there certainly was one.

Ending a movie like that is always difficult. For some reasons I remember liking the Theatrical ending better than the Director's version, which several people couldn't understand, but I can't recall the difference right now. ...and even if I could, I am sure Tom doesn't want to hear it at this point, I think  Maybe he can refresh my memory after watching it.
Almost as much fun as alternate realities to me :thumbup:I love alternate realities, too. Even better when mixed with time-travel: Changing something in the past and present changes.

Yep. There is even a german dvd (http://www.amazon.de/Das-Haus-Meer-Il-Mare/dp/B000PTYO1C/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1199729337&sr=8-1) out there. I don't know how the german dub is though, I got myself this one (http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-k/section-videos/pid-1004115203/) which is reasonable cheap considering it's a beautiful digipak 2-dvd+ost discset. It looks like the German DVD has not the original audio track so it is out of the question. I'll probably order it here (http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=45872) as this is where I order from on a regular basis.
I've never watched Lake House, I already found Keanu Reaves in Sweet November (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0230838/) very dull. He's a good action star and does great comedy, but isn't very good for drama. It has Sandra Bullock in it, good enough reason for me :)
You should consider my source as the korean version has good english subs and the best picture out there. I'm not very fond of tai seng, the only thing that speaks for them are the good subs, but they are usually very intrusive and picture quality isn't too good.Thanks. I just looked at the reviews on Amazon.com for this release. It seems you are correct and also worse: There is no original Korean audio track but only Cantonese and Chinese dubs :stars:

I liked the director's cut version better, which also had other additional scenes with which this alternative ending has much more impact than the kinda boring theatrical ending. Now you have me slightly confused. :weirdo: If you are descibing the DC there, than it seems that the DC is he one wherehe kills himself, not the one where he alienates the girl to avoid becoiing friends with her.
With his realization, that there were other brothers before him who had all the same problem (and therefore killed themselves in the womb also and his mother has therefore miscarried). And then we hear, that his mother again is pregnant. But this time with a girl and so the cycle is broken.

In that case I would prefer the Theatrical Cut after all, and not the DC. I found that baby doing suicide in the womb just a little over the top... (not that the baby kills itself per se, but it being conscious...)
His exceptional skill/gift/whatever has one purpose: to prove he shouldn't exist. :shrug:Had the same feeling of pointless-ness with Donnie Darko.
My main problem with the whole film is it makes little sense and as I mentioned before, it's pointless. His exceptional skill/gift/whatever has one purpose: to prove he shouldn't exist. :shrug:Maybe that's why I liked the cut where he just alienates the girl better; didn't feel quite that pointless. He just needed to find out what exactly to do in order to change the outcome.
Had the same feeling of pointless-ness with Donnie Darko.I am still figuring that one out  Seen it twice so far (Theatrical Cut) and couldn't quite wrap my head around it. Maybe I should see the Director's Cut, as it supposedly spells things out more clearly (while probably inferior for that reason, it might help me understand the whole thing :-[).
yesasia usually is customs free as they ship over belgium.
I have both versions of Donnie Darko and although I think the theatrical is better, that's only because the director's cut is more obvious. To be fair, I could only fully appreciate the story after seeing the DC.So basically you're saying I am right. I should get the DC (maybe as a rental only) just to finally clarify some of the plot points and then afterwards keep enjoying the more puzzling Theatrical Cut... :hmmmm:
The 2-disc versions have all the book pages from the DC as bonus material and I believe the deleted scenes cover almost everything that was put back in the DC. IMO the only real advantage of the DC is the audio commentary with Kelly and Kevin Smith.I have both versions of Donnie Darko and although I think the theatrical is better, that's only because the director's cut is more obvious. This movie had a disappointing sequel and a US/French spin-off movie which I haven't seen yet. But I will soon because it was also part of the latest package. But I do not promise myself much from this new movie because I have yet to read a favorable review for it.I have seen parts of the remake on HBO. While some stuff seemed funny, I definitely recommend to keep expectations low.

The only real difference is the ending. I prefer the "Lake House" ending but it could be a matter of what you have seen first. Both ending produce a time paradox but I feel that the one in the US version can be explained away whereas with the original Korean ending that is not possible.
At this line in this movie I had to think of you, Pete:
- Do you like music?
- Yeah, doesn't everybody?

I used to like Sandra Bullock, she was hot in SpeedPerhaps, but she was super hot in Demolition Man :drooling:

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo kakeru shôjo)
"TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE"
Student girl Konno Makoto has a very bad day. Everything goes wrong and to top it all off in the afternoon she dies in a lethal accident… only she doesn't.
In fact, she finds herself transported a few seconds back in time and manages to avert her deadly fate. As Konno slowly discovers, she has acquired the power to jump back in time and change things at will!
Soon, she starts the whole day over, but this time without errors, only to discover that sometimes her winnings are someone else's losses. Before she knows it she's busy cleaning mess after mess. And when things go from bad to terrible she suddenly finds out there is a limit to her time-jumping, possibly leading several loved ones straight into great danger.
My thoughts:

So, I finally had the chance to see this highly praised film (at least by Tom )... First off: :
I have no real experience with anime, so this may sound awkward to others: The animation is a mixed bag. Basically held simple it still manages to convey the character's feelings and gtransfer the emoptions to the viewer. Several times I was taken out of the film though, when the animation turned what I call "Heidi"-style (at least the Germans may understand what I mean); Super big mouth while laughing and SUPER big eyes; I can handle big eyes, but SUPER big looks weird. All in all it was well animated though, with sufficient detail in the right spots.
Spoilers follow: The major flaw in my opinion is, that while traveling back in time and preventing the disaster, he again leaves behind all those hints for his future self to find. But by changing the time, the future will not happen and this is not necessary anymore. A whole new timeline has already started at the point he traveled back in time. The timeline thing you mention also bothered me a lot when I saw it in the cinema. Not even quite comprehending it I started to read on the net (mainly IMDb)and found an explanation that I found satisfactory of rmyself:
This whole leaving yourself hints behind cannot work in the frame of this story. I feel they mixing up these two timelines too much.
The timeline of the movie is actually his first trip already, meaning when he does the time travel at the end he is actually tavelling the second time (doesn't he reply to the sentence that he is the first human to do that with soimething like "maybe I already did"?).
Primer (2004/United States)Finally got around watching this myself yesterday. I liked how some of the stuff was revealed to the viewer
[...]My Thoughts:When I watched this movie the first time, I labeled it "For Sale". I never came around to sell it and I wanted to give it another chance now. It seems I do not get the movie. Looks like it will be left with the label.

Plot:
Lose yourself in timeless love with this gloriously romantic story of the journey of two hearts. Artist Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams of The Notebook) shares a deep emotional bond with Henry De Tamble (Eric Bana of The Other Boleyn Girl), a handsome librarian who travels involuntarily through time. Knowing they can be separated without warning, Clare and Henry treasure the moments they have together, imbuing them with the yearning and passion of two people imprisoned by time... and set free by love. Based on the #1 bestseller The Time Traveler's Wife weaves together destiny and devotion, past and future to turn an extraordinary love into an extraordinary love story.
Extras:
Featurettes
Scene AccessMy Thoughts:I enjoyed this movie. The pacing is similar to Rachel McAdam's other movie I have seen: "The Notebook".
The time-travel aspect has been used well. I didn't notice any obvious mistakes on the writer's part.

I could have told you, that it's not really about time travel. Different dimension which looks like a different era, more likely. My Thoughts:The title made me curious. And it was said to be about time-travel, which as you know I enjoy. But this movie is really strange. Not really my cup of tea, but objectively I have to say it is a good movie. It reminded me a little of Donnie Darko.

I remember liking that too. Isn't that a plot thread that was missing from the older film (with Rod Taylor)? In fact I also quite liked the film for the most part, except "that ending"...My Thoughts:It has been a long time since I last saw this movie. I know that it has a bad reputation, but I like it.The acting isn't the best, but I think it is an enjoyable movie. I like the reason why he cannot change the past to save his fiancé.
And for time travel lovers it does add the bit of questions about what can happen when trying to 'right a wrong'....and the answer to that is so incredibly logical! :slaphead:

Would you belive I never seen any of the Bill and Ted movies? :whistle:Because of the premise about music? Then you shouldn't avoid it. It can be enjoyed even if the protagonists want to be successful as musicians.
