The Funhouse, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Funhouse: Widescreen Year: 1981 Director: Tobe Hooper Rating: R Length: 95 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: Elizabeth Berridge Shawn Carson Jeanne Austin Jack McDermott Cooper Huckabee Largo Woodruff Plot: It seemed to be a carnival funhouse just like any other: mysterious, eerie, scary, but all in good fun. Yet it wasn't just any funhouse. In this one there was murder. And the horror became real. The story concerns four teenagers who visit a local carnival for a night of innocent amusement. They soon discover, however, that there is nothing innocent or amusing there at all. Instead, they find absolute terror when the four are trapped inside the maze of the funhouse. One by one, each victim is taken by a monster who tauntingly stalks them. Extras: None My Thoughts: I just got this movie the other day in the Cult Horror Classics: 4 Movie Marathon DVD set. This is the first time I ever seen this movie. Which in of itself is a surprise... because as a teen I lived on the '80s horror. I enjoyed this one. I have seen better... but it did a pretty good job of entertaining. I enjoyed the story... but I wish they would have did a little better job on designing the deformed look of the killer. I am not quite sure why they chose an evil looking clown for the cover image. There really wasn't much of any clown scenes. So my daughter (who is very afraid of clowns) has no reason to worry about this one. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From The Movies From Within My Lifetime on March 29th, 2011) Gandhi, a review by RichNo stopping for a ruby in India... Gandhi was not a ruler of nations, nor did he have scientific gifts. Yet this small, modest man did what others before him could not. He led an entire country to freedom - he gave his people hope. Gandhi, the man of the century, is explored in this breathtaking, unforgettable motion picture. What an incredible film, learnt so much about the man and his life that I never knew before. Over 3 hours long this kept a very tired man awake until nearly 3 in the morning, but I'm not complaining. Whole-hearted recommendation and an experience to watch if you enjoy biographical epics. 7/10 (From Around the World in 80 DVD's on February 23rd, 2008) The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ DoenaWhat's the show about? All over the world anomalies are suddenly opening and reveal itself as a door to the past. Sometimes predators come through and have to be brought back and the government tries to keep this a secret. A team of scientists and members of the British Home Office work on these cases and try to find a pattern and a way to close these anomalies again. "Series 1 Episode 1" Eight years ago the wife of Professor Cutter disappeared without a trace in the Forest of Dean. Now something weird is going on in there again, it's either a huge animal or a giant prank. The professor has to check it out for himself. In the mean time not far from there: A family calls the local zoo because their son has found a strange lizard that must have been set free by someone. My Opinion This was another blind buy and I watched the first season today for the first time. At first I was intrigued by the general idea. Basically Jurassic Park without fences or island. But I was constantly thrown off by how these animals behaved. I am certainly no expert on animals but I've seen animal documentaries since the days of Jacques Cousteau and I also watched the amazing BBC documentaries on prehistoric life (great stuff!). And now this series has all these amazing predators that could cause a lot of havoc just by behaving naturally. But that wasn't enough - they had to behave in an un-animal way just to create tension and suspense with the characters. The characters were OK, but also not exceptional (more stereotypes than individuals). I don't know if I will watch the second season I already own...
