Taxi Driver, a review by Rich

Taxi Driver

Robert De Niro stars with Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle and Albert Brooks in the all-too-real story of a psychotic New York cabby who is driven to violence in an attempt to rescue a teenage prostitute.

Intense movie starring a young DeNiro as a menacing insomniac taxi driver whose life slowly unfolds, and unravels, on a self believed righteous and heroic path to kill a senator and save a child prostitute.
His portrayal of a lonely, at times desperate, disengaged and rejected member of society is convincing, and the bloody climax is brutal, graphic and shocking.
You Talking to me?
Top drawer with a great script from Schrader, masterful Scorsese direction, and a support cast including Keitel, Shepherd and Foster.
Treat yourself.

Georgia Rule, a review by Rich

struggle through georgia...

Three generations of top actresses - two time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, Lindsay Lohan and Felicity Huffman unite in a film from director Garry Marshall about the power of redemption, freedom in forgiveness and unbreakable bonds of motherhood. When Lily (Huffman) can no longer handle her rebellious teenage daughter, Rachel (Lohan), she takes her to the one place she swore she'd never return...her mother's house. For one very surprising summer, these three very different women are living under one roof and under one rule: Georgia's (Fonda).

A better than anticipated movie, certainly not a comedy as I previously thought. Bold and graphic, in many places obscene and intentionally shocking, watchable and provocative, but the script IMO just stops this being a must-see film.  5/10

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

How I Met Your Mother

What's the show about?"Pilot"
Ted's life is about to change. His best friend has just proposed to his girlfriend and she has accepted. And Ted meets a beautiful woman at his favourite bar. She likes dogs, Scotch, can quote Ghostbusters and does not like olives. She's perfect - until he tells her on the first date: "I love you!".

My Opinion
To be perfectly honest, the show had to grow on me. I watched a few episodes on TV and wasn't that thrilled. I still bought the first season on a hunch and watched the first disc. While funny, still no ground-breaking experience for me. Then 4 days ago I gave it another shot. I began with the second disc of the first season and roughly one hour ago I finished with the first episode of the fifth season. And while I enjoyed it very much, I'd still rate Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory higher. HIMYM is one really long romantic comedy movie where you don't meet the female lead (so far) and I really like this kind of movie - if done well. And HIMYM is done well.
