Steve McQueen - Your thoughts on his films

I don't actively remember watching a single film with him.

I probably saw The Magnificient Seven but I don't remember anything about it.

Really ... it is one of the best westerns ever done.  It was a 'remake' based on Seven Samurai.  Great cast and good story line.  The music was wonderful ... in fact there were a couple eps of "Cheers" that had the theme song in it.  Good stuff

Yes, The Magnificent Seven is a very good western. And to my great shame I must admit that I have had Seven Samurai in my unwatched pile for over ten years. I really should pull myself together and watch it, but it's effin 3 1/2 hours

Do it! I am quite certain you won't regret it.

I had put it off a long time and once I saw it it was a really quick 3 1/2 hours, actually, and one of the best movies I have ever seen. I always imagined that feudal japan could not make a compelling action movie (I thought gun action would be more exciting), but rarely have I been so wrong...

And to get this thread back on track I should mention that I have two Steve McQueen movies in my unwatched pile as well; Baby, the Rain Must Fall and The War Lover. Has any of you seen any of these, and if so - any thoughts?

I've seen The War Lover and think it was a pretty good film.  Primarily an interplay of personalities and less on war, McQueen and Robert Wagner do a very good job.  Haven't seen Baby the Rain Must Fall but looking it up it looks *interesting*.  It looks to be in the vain of 'heavy' dramtic films of the time that sometimes I like and sometimes i don't.  Might have to find it and see.  Thanks for that
