Warner have picked up the rights to Wired magazine's article about the rise and fall of John McAfee. Crazy, Stupid, Love. duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have been hired to write and direct.

Could be interesting. The story sure is mental, going from computer security boffin to an alleged murderer hiding in Belize.

Americans sure make hero of anyone ::)

A rich murderer on the run who will go on to live a long an happy life in the US after he fled his country to not pay taxes...

When will we see the film about the Newtown killer or Magnotta... pathetic ::)

Kathy

I like stories based on true stories. This could be interesting.

Piffi

As Kathy just said, i too like movies that a based on a true story.
And in the local newspapers here in my Country the case have gotten
a lot for attention. So i would def check it out if\when it comes out :)

So I guess I'm the only one who don't give a fuck about the "real life" of rich killers scumbags who flew their country to not pay their taxes but came back to escape the justice of the country that help them to hide their money after they screw up and killed an insignificant third world citizen...

Achim

Well, nobody said he'll be the "hero" of te piece. They made Scarface and many people like that film about a murdering scumbag. Sure that one may be fictitious, but then this will end up to be merely "based on a true story" too.

They have had worse stuff made into movies. You are taking this way too hard.

samuelrichardscott

Agree with Achim. We don't know how this will portray McAfee and this 'story' still has a way to go in real life yet...

You're probably right... it's the "I've fled the USA to not pay my taxes and now I'm a hero back home because I've killed an insignifiant third world country citizen and third world country justice is corrupt. So I'm happy to be back in a country that oppressed me so much" that is hard to swallow for me.

Piffi

I havent read anything about this movie, or what ideas they got for it etc.
So i just gotta ask Jim, i see you use the word 'hero' about Mr.Mcafee, does it say anywhere
that they will portrait (?) is that the word? him as a 'hero' ? If they did, then so be it. But if
not, i am not sure they would call him a hero, after what they say he's done etc. And since
i havent read anything about the movie. I just have to ask :)
Anyways, its a movie i want to check out anyways when it comes out sometime. (if it does)

This is the article the rights have been bought to. Certainly doesn't make him out to be a hero.

Jimmy

Hero was a bad choice of word, just change it for "worthy of a biographic film".

Seriously he is an addict, he fucked underage girls when he was in South America, he is a rich guy who didn't want to pay his just share of taxes, he is a coward and, of course, a killer...

Sound as worthy of a biopict to me than Garry Glitter or the anonymous owner of Azov Films

samuelrichardscott

Same could be said for Ted Bundy (killer), The Zodiac Killer (killer), Chopper (killer), Ray Charles (junkie), Frank Abagnale Jr (fraudster), Che Guevara, Idi Amin, anything based around Hitler, Bugsy Malone, Al Capone etc etc. The reason they make these movies are because people are interested in the minds of these individuals. I'm all for these biopics as long as it does not glamourise the wrong doings of these people.

I can see what you mean though. If they base it on the article it will be about how much of a paranoid mindfreak he was and finish with him in hiding. Of course, he is really just an 'alleged' murderer right now though;)

Yeah .. americans .. have you ever lived in london and read the news there?  Or the fanatical worship some soccer player gets?

There are *idiots* everywhere who *need* others to fantasize about.  And as long as those idiots have money .. the hollywood idiots will make the movies.

by the way .. he just moved in down the street  :surrender:
