I live like there's no tomorrow, because there isn't one.

Today I got out of the house - big mistake. I don't know how it is in other countries, but around here when shops threaten to close for two(!!!) days in a row (Easter Sunday + Easter Monday) people start hoarding food like World Wars 3 and 4 combined are starting tomorrow...

Same here. The buggers were shut yesterday in my area also.

As long as the takeaway is open, I'll survive.

Only happens once a year here, before Chinese New Year. But then many (note: not all) shops are closed for up to five days...

Kathy

I never understood why people do that...I think their afraid they'll run out of their junk food!

It's ok around here, because the shops are still open anyway. Just Easter Sunday most will be shut, but they're back open on Bank Holidays.

My partner and I saw a massive queue coming out of a bottle shop on Good Friday (most bottleshops and bars are closed that day). It seemed pretty crazy for *one* day (and one that was scheduled).

What's a bottle shop? Like an off-licence, or liquor store as our American friends might call them?

A liquor store. Here I was thinking I was being careful, referring to it as a bottle shop rather than a "bottlo".

Very little of necessity closes around here during Easter. This despite being in a religious state.
I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

In Germany, if it's a national holiday (or sunday ;)) shops must be closed so that everyone can enjoy the free day. Of course transportation systems work and the entertainment industry is still open but shopping isn't considered a necessity on a holiday. Of course some people argue that the holidays are the perfect days to go shopping because if you don't work as a sales person you have a whole day to roam the malls. But right now that's just the way it is and since I'm not into shopping I don't care either way.

I had to go to Walmart Friday evening to get cat litter.  The place was a zoo..you'd think a massive blizzard was coming and people were preparing to be stuck at home for a month.

Your comment reminded me of something that my father says.

I live in a small town, but its between two larger, busy towns. My dad will comment that it's amazing how many cars are on the road (he still thinks back to the Great Depression days); everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere. To this I remind him that we are one of those people as well. If he was at home he wouldn't know any different.
