Help... What Do You Call It?

As I said in my review for Paranormal Entity today... I am finding I really like the whole "Blair Witch" "Found Video" type movies that have been coming out in the recent years. And I know I have several in my collection now. But when I want one it is getting harder to think of the movies I own... so I was thinking of making a tag... or maybe even a Sub-Genre for the genre field for these. But for the life of me I can not think of what to call these things.

I went to IMDB to see what they are using... and noticed at least a few of these are tagged with "Fake Documentary" But this don't feel right to me... when I think of documentary I think of things like people being interviewed and behind the scenes looks at whatever the subject... and that don't feel like the right fit to me. Especially when thinking of ones like Paranormal Activity/Entity or Cloverfield.

I want to be able to tag these so I have easy access in case I ever want to do a weekend marathon of these or something. So what do you say? Any ideas? is there any official term for these movies that I haven't heard about?

Off the top of my head... here are the ones I will be able to tag with this...

- The Blair Witch Project
- The St. Francisville Experiment
- Paranormal Activity
- Paranormal Entity
- Cloverfield

And I believe there is one more... either in the 50 or 100 movie boxsets that I have. So if memory serves I have at least 6 which would make a decent weekend marathon. Though I may be forgetting about 1 or 2 others as well.

So I am asking...

1. What would you call these?
2. Am I missing any obvious titles for this type of movie?... as I am realizing I really enjoy them. :)

Thank You Karsten! That works! Sounds much better then "Fake Documentary"!

I also just went to Amazon... and noticed Paranormal Activity 2 is released soon... so I may order that this coming month as well.

That link also gives a nice selection of others I can add to my collection!

OK... Another question then....

The link Karsten provided gives Diary of the Dead (George A. Romero) as an example of one of these movies. And yes I remember this movie having the camcorder "Found Footage".... but (and it has been a while since I seen it so not sure) wasn't it only half like this? and half the scenes were like a regular movie? Or am I remembering wrong... and it was always shown from someone's camera footage?

I am trying to decide whether I feel it belongs in my list or not... I am edging towards yes... but not 100% sure.

Fake Documentry (=Mockumentary?) would also include stuff like Spinal Tap, which is not what you are going for...

Besides The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield I also have The Last Broadcast; quite like Blair Witch, older but less successful.

Then there is REC, or it's remake Quarentine.

Diary of the Dead

I can't shake the feeling there's another one in my collection... :hmmmm:

EDIT:
IIRC Diary of the Dead is entirely first person. But there is another one that matches your description and now I cannot think of what it is  :slaphead:

Thanks Achim... was just asking about Diary of the Dead above your post. I will add it to my list. :)

[I edited above...]

I checked and found I also own Man Bites Dog (not horror) and Zombie Diaries (which is somewhat mixed style, I believe).

Thanks Achim... I wonder what one I am thinking of then! Oh well if you think of it... post it here. :)

After thinking about it a little more, maybe that was Diary of the Dead, which loosened up the style in the second half...?

Oh darn, I hope I can sleep now

Cannibal Holocaust is also part of this genre (in fact it is the first one), but I can't recommand it to you Pete. I don't think you would like this type of movie

Yeah.. I never seen that one... but heard it was pretty bad. Though I am sure I don't know all the details of it.

I wouldn't say bad since it's one of the few movie I've rated 10/10 at imdb, but badly hurt by the dubbing (wich is usual for the italians production) and some footages are pretty hard to watch and many people can't go over that and the logic of this way.

I did a short review here 2 years ago.

I've yet to see a "found footage" film I like (I tend to find shakey-cam distracting and off-putting). That doesn't mean I can't make suggestions.
