Really?
Hmm...maybe it is just a sale from the email.  I use to get those.
They may consider the Doctor Who sets on sale, when I looked them up, they were higher than they are at Amazon.

Dr. Hasslein

I just got my hands on seasons 1-4. Score!  ;D

Dragonfire

Good.  Now get busy watching.

Dr. Hasslein

I won't be able to started watching until tomorrow night and I dying to start season 3 of The Wire so that will be coming first.

I saw the same...

O.k., let's talk business (well, THANKS, Sebastien :-[). Is this the "correct" first series to begin with...? At £13 it seems reasonably priced. Of course there is the Series 1-4 set for £46 :slaphead: Which in turn makes the Series 5 for £45 look incredibly expensive :stars:

Dragonfire

Yes that is the one to start with. :)

And remember, the fifth one is the newest one.  The newest sets for any show tend to be more for a while.

Did we wear you down? :)

Dr. Hasslein

We are all a bunch of push overs.  :-[

The Doctor is worth it. :)

Oooooo....I just might order the specials..that's the only one I see there...maybe even Torchwood...will have to see.
Just have to make sure the sale will last a while.

Well, I skipped S1-3 and started with S4, because I remember catching the odd episode of the early seasons and never quite got what the fuss was about. So far, S4 was okay-ish, but now I've hit 4x08 Silence in the Library and, holy cow, this show actually can be really, really great. Wish there was more of that.

The "odd episode" or the "Ood episode"? ;)

We will sing to you, Doctor. The Universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

The former, since the latter is part of S4. Although the Doctor mentioned that he encountered the Ood previously. So there might be another one I don't know of.

On a related note: Is it just me or are the episodes heavily overscored to compensate for the (sometimes deliberately?) shoddy settings and CGI?

While still better than everything else so far, the second part 4x09 Forest of the Dead doesn't quite measure up to the setup of the first part.

To be honest, matthias, the real power of Doctor Who is when you invest in the characters over the series. Picking out single episodes, yes, you will find classics, but you miss out on the real subtleties of the character.

And Who has always been played with enthusiasm and exuberance. The special effects are a lot better than classic Who; they have no reason to hide. A slight clunkiness is supposed to be there. Have you seen the state of the new Tardis? :)

Above all never forget: this is a children's show for kids of all ages.
