Anybody have any tips or tricks??...I have tried the toothpaste one and it just made it worse!!..Am I doing something wrong??...Is there a cheaper alternative to the big commercial cleaners/buffers?? :hmmmm:

Toothpaste worked for me, but it needs polishing really well. I've also used a cheap gadget called a DVD Doctor, which essentially sands the disc so surface level scratches are reduced.

I go the easy route: water and a non-abrasive cloth. I've never had any problems.
I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

Never go to bed mad. Sleep on the couch instead.

There are a few broken branches in every family tree.

Boil the disc (doesn't get rid of scratches but does help playback problems).

I've never cleaned a disc in my life. Although, I did buy something called a DVD cleaner for about 2 bucks from a store once. It's just a disc that you put into the DVD drive and then put your actual DVD in after. Not sure how or if it actually works... at least it was cheap.

For non-scratched but dirty discs I use a mild dishwashing detergent, warm water and a non-abrasive cloth to dry it.
For removing scratches use a ultra-fine car-polish.

Always clean from center to rim, do not make concentric circles around the center.

In the all the nine years I've been watching DVDs I've never had to clean a disc or a player. I think the whole disc/player cleaning thing is a bit of a cash grab.

Kathy

I must clean my DVD player every so often. I suppose its the hair from th 13 cats or dog that sneaks in and makes this neccesary.

I seldom need to clean my DVDs. When I do it's usually because I borrowed them from someone who isn't as careful with them as I am.

Not quite a cash grab only... I have had several discs with tiny scatches which would cause the disc to skip or halt. Cleaning it with a special liquid I bought and the accompanying cloth (so yes, there s your cash grab afte all ) it usually plays again.

I bought a few "used" ones, and I like to keep mine in mint condition,so I just wanted something cheap to make then look like new again...thanks again....
