I Upgraded My TV Cable Today

I have 12 stations (2 of which I deleted). Retro TV is pretty cool - it takes me back to my younger days. But, I'm not really a TV watcher, I'd rather read a book or watch a DVD. I will never pay for TV. If they decide to get rid of the free over-the-air programming (which is a possibility) I will go without.

After my post earlier today I thought: what do I need cable for anyway, I mainly watch TV (o.k., sometimes a friend visits and watches the news channels for a while...). So, on the one side I was contemplating to actually give up cable or at least reduce the channels, I actually ended up ordering more I now have a bunch of HD channels (HBO, Discovery are the ones I care about), some more of the HBO family and various other ones I didn't have before.

My previous deal was: $15 per month for around 80 channels. Mind you, most of those are Chinese language! However, there was/is 6 movie channels as well as Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet and Living & Lifestyle (or so).

Now I pay an additional $12 (well, they have a special, so actually only $10 for the first year) for 7 HD channels (incl. HBO, Discovery, NatGeo and History), 1080i widescreen , as well as SD versions of HBO Signature, HBO Hits, HBO Family, Sci-Fi (meant to be SyFy....?), Universal, Hallmark, two more natGeo and three more Discovery.

Without cable on my bedroom TV I get around 25 channels, including my favourite E4. I could easily get along without cable and just watch shows on DVD.

My colleague was the one who suggested it. Basically: try to watch some stuff on TV and then order less DVDs, concentrating to buy the stuff that I really want/"need". So, I'll have to watch the listings to catch stuff I missed in the cinema and watch it on TV rather than ordering a DVD just to watch it.

Haha 25 channels without cable, that certainly beats my 6. And I love E4! I don't actually have it but I like watching the shows on E4, like Skins.

When I had my old TV up until just over a year ago I just got the terrestrial channels (5), but my parents got me a new TV for my 18th, and apparantly they now all come with inbuilt Freeview! Nice to have on the rare occasion i watch TV
