Sorry Jon, but I can't stand that film.

I have to agree with this.  It is one of only two movies with Spencer Tracy that I do not care for. 

'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' is the other.  The funny thing is, I love Katharine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier as much as Spencer Tracy, but this movie is so implausible and political that I just can't bear to watch it.

I finally got around to watching Faust tonight. I was really quite impressed with the opening section (about 1/3), to the point I was ready to add it to an Amazon UK order I'll be putting through in the next few days. Thankfully I continued watching... the feel of the entire thing changed after that, and I was left rather disappointed. That said, the first third did have some absolutely spectacular special effects!

One of the absolute best silent movies I've seen is The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928).  Maria Falconetti is just fabulous in this movie, completely removing the need for words!  One of the best screen performances ever!

I see you bought The General, you should try and get Keaton's other films. He was the King of silent slapstick

The scene that is the cover for that clip is from Steamboat Bill Jr., Keaton's last independent film before he was sabotaged by MGM. The front of the building weighed over two tons, and had Keaton been off by only a few scant inches, he would have been crushed to death.

I saw that stunt performed live at Universal Studios in some Western stunt show. Not sure it still exists, that was in 1990... Quite impressive. Interesting here though, that the star did it, not a stuntman!

I may look into more Keaton. Personally I have a slight preference for Laurel and Hardy though.

2 best scenes in that for me are at about .52 secs, walking through the door and then trying to climb over the gate.

So natural.

I just stumbled across this. It's in DVD Profiler (UPC 617742220599) and available from Amazon for $9.98
Give it a look, as there's quite a bit more content than the (front) cover suggests. I'd love to grab it myself, but I've been splurging a little too much lately.
