Pete, why not look out for some proper romantic comedies? There's some good movies in that list, but nothing great. Get The Philadelphia Story or The Apartment or Adam's Rib or anything by Preston Sturges, like Sullivan's Travels. Do it properly, man! 

Preston Sturges - The Lady Eve, Hail the Conquering Hero or The Miracle of Morgan's Creek. All three are great Rom-Com's, the latter being my favorite Sturges' film.

How can you not like a film from the forties about an unwed pregnancy involving a girl whose last name is Kockenlocker?

How Sturges got this film made without interference from the Hays office is beyond me.

Have you seen "It Happened One Night"? A great classic. For me the mother of the modern romcom genre.

Pete already has His Girl Friday, Emma, but I felt he didn't enjoy the screwball, high-speed style, which is why in a previous thread we recommended several that developed from it, like Philadelphia Story, where things slowed down a tad!

Of course, I'd somehow forgotten the one that started it all in It Happened One Night. Pete, I second, third and fourth Tom's suggestion!

Pete have you ever seen All of Me with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin? I'm not the biggest romantic comedy fan but this is one of my favorites. Another favorite of mine is Prisoner of Second Avenue with Anne Bancroft and Jack Lemmon.

Next to horror, romantic comedies are probably my least watched genre. I only own two and they are 'Knocked Up' and 'Baby Mama' which I just got recently.

From the previews of Knocked Up I really don't think I would care too much for it... but Baby Mama looks pretty funny. I may have to check that one out.

Baby Mama isn't overly fantastic but it has some good people, Tina Fey, Sigourney Weaver etc. It's a nice little light-hearted comedy I think, but as I said nothing great.

You should also check out some of Cary Grant's films from the late 30's and early 40's, like Topper, The Awful Truth, My Favorite Wife and Holiday. All four are classics.

I like Holiday a lot.  Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are very good together...you should also check them out together in Bringing Up Baby.  Of course, with romantic comedies, I always think of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan though they only did 3 films together...and I still haven't gotten around to watching one of those.
