But I think De Niro's scenes as the young Vito are possibly the best produced in American film.

The best part of all 3 films.

I wish part 2 was all about the young Vito, then he could have made part 3 an extension of Michael's war with Roth. No need for that Vatican bullshit and no Sofia Coppola.

Did you ever see the TV edition? My Dad and some on his friends remembered seeing a version where everything in the first two movies was re-edited into about 9 hours chronological. They raved about it, but I always enjoyed the way it ran both mens lives parallel and let you see the differences between the young Vito and the young Michael.

The Godfather Saga

I'm with your father on this one, because of the added scenes in this version.

I'd certainly like to see it again like that, but I get a kick out of such a... reflective narrative structure.  Training Oo-er. What the bloody hell does that even mean? Bloody hell, I spout some crap sometimes. Bag

While probably interesting, I rather keep the Godfather as it is and watch a marathon of the three movies and then see the added stuff in the deleted scenes.

Untangling it would be like watching Memento chronologically: nice to have seen it, no need to do it again.

I've never seen the Godfather movies.

You might want to pencil them in at some point in your future. You are allowed to skip part 3.

I bet you did Laugh

Well, yeah, sure. It's still a decent film overall. Just as part of the Trilogy it really comes open at the seams.
