I just realized I haven't posted to this thread since my birthday back in May.... so my very large update since then....

The Life of Emile Zola
Paul Muni was the king of screen biographies in Hollywood's Golden Era, creating a gallery of great lives. Warner Bros. was the studio most in touch with the common clay, striking a public nerve with films of social protest. These forces of star and humanism converged in a 1937 movie landmark: The Life of Emile Zola was the studio's first Best Picture Academy Award® winner (10 nominations and three wins*).

This powerful film about the activist French author also won the New York Film Critics Best Picture prize. And Muni won that group's Best Actor honors for his towering portrayal of Zola, France's champion of the oppressed, whose relentless campaign to free the wrongly convicted Captain Dreyfus (Best Supporting Actor Oscar® winner Joseph Schildkraut) will forever shine as "a moment in the conscience of man."

*Additional Award: Best Screenplay; Nominations: Best Actor (Muni), Director (William Dieterle), Assistant Director (Russ Saunders), Interior Decoration, Original Story, Score (Max Steiner) and Sound Recording.

The Jazz Singer
Experience film history with THE JAZZ SINGER, the first feature-length film with synchronized dialogue and musical sequences. Broadway superstar Al Jolson stars as Jakie Rabinowitz, the son of a Jewish cantor (Warner Oland). Turning his back on family tradition, Jakie transforms himself into cabaret-entertainer Jack Robin. When Jack comes home to visit his parents, he is warmly greeted by his mother (Eugenie Besserer), but is cold-shouldered by his father, who feels that Jack is a traitor to his heritage by singing jazz music. The movie was an immediate sensation when it opened in 1927 and created a revolution in the history of the motion picture industry, opening the doors to the "talkies."

Time Bandits
Young Kevin’s daydreams burst into astonishing and hilarious life when a band of time-traveling little men come crashing through his bedroom wardrobe and carry him off on an unbelievable crime spree, weaving through the greatest and strangest moments of history. The pint-sized plunderers filch from a neurotic Napoleon (Ian Holm), a dim-witted Robin Hood (John Cleese) and a heroic King Agamemnon (Sean Connery), leading to a showdown with the dark forces of Evil (David Warner)...all while keeping just one precarious step ahead of the wrath of The Supreme Being himself!

Producer/Director/Co-writer Terry Gilliam (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Brazil) teams with many of his comic-genius cohorts from Monty Python to bring this laugh-out-loud modern fairy tale-adventure to life.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil
It was murder! The blind guy couldn't see it. The deaf guy couldn't hear it. But now they're both wanted for it in the drop-dead comedy, SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL, that reunites the outrageous comedy duo Richard Pryor and Gene WIlder (Silver Streak, Stir Crazy). Meet Wally and Dave—Wally is blind, Dave is deaf. When a man is murdered outside a newsstand where they work, the police collar these two unlikely buddies as their main suspects. A hilarious chase ensues as Wally and Dave hightail it from the New York Police Department to snag the real bad guys—the wickedly beautiful Eve (Joan Severance, Black Scorpion) and her cold-blooded cohort, Kirgo (Kevin Spacey, American Beauty) . From director Arthur Hiller (Silver Streak) comes this zany comedy caper you won't want to miss.

Silver Streak
In this wild comedy adventure, rail passenger George Caldwell (Gene Wilder) finds that a romantic escapade with a sultry secretary (Jill Clayburgh) puts him in the middle of a Hitchcockian murder plot. Leaping on and off the train, in and out of roomettes, bars and dining cars, George teams up with an amiable, small-time crook (Richard Pryor) to defy the murderer's henchmen, FBI agents and a host of other outrageous characters.

Shut In
Terror hits home in this harrowing psychological thriller that will chill you to the bone! Recently widowed child psychologist Mary Portman (Naomi Watts) lives an isolated existence caring for her bedridden stepson (Charlie Heaton) in rural New England. But when a young boy (Jacob Temblay) Mary is treating goes missing in a snowstorm and is presumed dead, she becomes convinced that his ghost is haunting her...and soon Mary's grip on reality turns as slippery as her icy surroundings.

There's Something About Mary
The "way over the line" (Los Angeles Times) romantic comedy with an all-star cast is even more hilarious on Blu-ray. With over two hours of features, including commentary, featurettes and interviews, and the extended film version, this is the Mary you'll want to watch again and again!

With help from sleazy private investigator Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), angst-driven Ted (Ben Stiller) finds his prom date crush, Mary (Cameron Diaz), thirteen years after high school. But when Healy decides he wants her for himself, the two men soon wage an outrageous battle for Mary's affections.

Summer Rental
Carl Reirner (The Jerk) directed this tale of a family man who takes a vacation from sanity when he takes a lease on a Florida Summer Rental. Comedy sensation John Candy plays the stressed out air traffic controller who's much-needed family holiday yeilds one hysterical misadventure after another — from settling into his hovel, to settling down on a "party" beach, to settling a score with a nut at sea.

The fun in the sun, and so's the moral: taking it eassy is tougher than landing a 747.

A Few Good Men
Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore star in Rob Reiner's unanimously acclaimed drama about the dangerous difference between following orders and following one's conscience. Cruise stars as a brash Navy lawyer who's teamed with a gung-ho litigator (Moore) in a politically explosive murder case. Charged with defending two Marines accused of killing a fellow soldier, they are confronted with complex issues of loyalty and honor—including its most sacred code and its most formidable warrior (Nicholson). Superbly directed with a trio of powerhouse performances and an outstanding supporting cast including Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollak, and Kiefer Sutherland, A FEW GOOD MEN is "entertainment to be seen and appreciated... consistently gripping" (Desson Howe, Washington Post).

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
When a small-town idealist (Gary Cooper) goes to New York to collect a twenty million dollar inheritance, he finds romance with wisecracking journalist Jean Arthur, becomes the target of ruthless businessmen and relatives, and finally decides to give his fortune away because it's so much trouble. This milestone film is one of the most charming and best-loved romantic comedies ever made.

Look Who's Talking / Look Who's Talking Too
Mollie (Kirstie Alley) is a single working mother who's out to find the perfect father for her child. Her baby, Mikey, prefers James (John Travolta), a cab driver turned babysitter who has what it takes to make them both happy. But Mollie won't even consider James. It's going to take all the tricks a baby can think of to bring them together before it's too late.

Amy Heckerling (Clueless) wrote and directed this baby's-eye-view comedy.

In this hilarious sequel to Look Who's Talking, little Mikey figures he's got it made after uniting his mother (Kirstie Alley) with the dad of his dreams (John Travolta). But instead of family bliss, Mikey gets the biggest surprise of his life - a baby sister.

Bruce Willis returns as the voice of Mikey, while Roseanne Barr's voice delivers baby Julie's delightful wisecracks. Together, these two fast-talking tots face a series of kiddie dilemmas, including the trials of potty training, their parents' marital squabbles, and an inevitable - but very funny - dose of sibling rivalry. As this loving family is about to learn, twice the trouble is also twice the fun!

Total Recall
Prepare for non-stop and pulse-pounding excitement in this "electrifying thrill ride" (Jeff Craig, Sixty Second Preview). Colin Farrell stars as Douglas Quaid, a factory worker who visits Rekall, a revolutionary company that can turn his superspy fantasies into real memories. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, the line between fantasy and reality blur as Quaid becomes a man on the run and the fate of his world hangs in the balance. Co-starring Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston, TOTAL RECALL is bustling with mind-blowing action sequences and spectacular visual effects, the ultimate high-energy thrill-ride!

The Shawshank Redemption
Few movies capture the triumph of the human spirit as memorably as Frank Darabont's film The Shawshank Redemption, from the same Stephen King story collection that gave us "Stand by Me." Morgan Freeman plays Red, a lifer who knows how to cope with the bleak hopelessness of Shawshank State Prison. Tim Robbins plays new inmate Andy, a quiet banker convicted of murders he didn't commit – and whose indomitable will earns Red's respect and friendship. Andy's resourcefulness brings hope and change to the entire prison. He's full of surprises. And the best comes last, leading to one of the most satisfying finales in film history.

Ordinary People
An Extraordinary motion picture, Ordinary People is an intense examination of a family being torn apart by tension and tragedy. Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore star as the upper-middle-class couple whose "ordinary" existence is irrevocably shattered by the death of their oldest son in a boating accident. Timothy Hutton is the younger son, struggling against suicide and guilt left by the drowning. Judd Hirsch is the empathetic psychiatrist who provides his lifeline to survival. Mary Tyler Moore gives a riveting portrayal of the inexplicably aloof mother. Robert Redford's achievement as director, after more than twenty years as a superstar in front of the camera, earned him an Oscar®. Superb performances and masterful direction complement the award-winning screenplay, based upon the novel by Judith Guest.

From best-selling author James Clavell (King Rat, Noble House) comes the sweeping award-winning story of love and war. It's a rollicking, musical ride into a world beyond their backyard as the Rugrats encounter obstacles and some big surprises in their quest to get back home.

Happy Death Day
Blumhouse (Split, Get Out, Whiplash) produces this original and inventive rewinding thriller in which a blissfully self-centered co-ed (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) is doomed to relive the day of her murder unless she can identify her masked assailant and hopefully stop the madness. If she can't, she will be stuck in an insane loop, reliving a ghoulish nightmare that has become her death day.

Menace II Society
The place is Watts, but it could be any urban area blighted by guns and poverty. The person is 18-year-old Caine, but he could be any young man in the 'hood. The movie could only be Menace II Society, the bravura, uncompromising look at Caine's spiral – from missed opportunities to inescapable missteps – into the inner-city cycle of hate and death. The filmmaking duo The Hughes Brothers (Dead Presidents, From Hell) made their feature debut with this urgent instant classic now available in a compelling Extended Director's Cut. The actors (including Tyrin Turner, Larenz Tate and Jada Pinkett) electrify. The pace sears. And Menace II Society hits with an emotional impact that will leave you stunned.

When Cobb pressures Jake into using the final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, his intimidation quickly escalates into relentless murder – forcing Jake to outwit his psychotic friend and save his remaining loved ones.

Also starring Corbin Bieu (High School Musical, Nurse 3D), Charles S. Dutton (Legion), Michelle Pierce (NCIS) and Daniel Hugh Kelley (Cujo), The Monkey's Paws is adapted from the renowned short story by W.W. Jacobs, and picks up where the short story left off.

An idyllic family vacation quickly unravels into a surrealist nightmare of paranoid visions, bizarre encounters, and an obsessive pursuit of a pair of sexy teenage Parisians. Midnight Cowboy

An American in Paris
Gene Kelly, producer Arthur Freed, director Vincente Minnelli and a skilled production team conjure an entertainment for the ages. Kelly plays an ex-GI who loves Paris and an alluring (but engaged) perfume-shop clerk (Leslie Caron in her beguiling screen debut). Dazzling dance sequences are spun around songs by the Gershwins. And the closing ballet - combining the George Gershwin title piece, Impressionist set stylings and Kelly's inimitable talent for telling a story in dance - lifts this winner of six Academy Awards® including Best Picture* (plus an honorary Oscar® to Kelly), into the ether of timelessness.

*Other 1951 Awards: Best Color Art Direction/Set Decoration, Color Cinematography, Color Costume Design, Scoring of a Musical Picture, and Story and Screenplay (Alan Jay Lerner).

Evelyn (Holland Taylor) ties the knot for the fifth time (lots of guests at the wedding, lots of cops at the reception). And as always, Berta (Conchata Ferrell) deals with it all by dealing out a royal flush of deadpan zingers. The guys are in and the welcome mat is out at everyone's favorite Malibu beach house.
