The Substitute
A great and funny movie! An alien coming from a race which has no understanding of empathy or love is coming to Earth as a substitute teacher.

Rating:

The only trailers I have found for this movie are rather misleading. The following video is the introduction of the Substitute teacher (one of the best scenes of the movie). Sadly no English subtitles are available but maybe you get an idea about this film.

The Chaser
A pimp on the search for one of his missing girls. He encounters the kidnapper possible murderer by chance but he escapes. Now he is on the search for him together with the police and they are running against the clock.
Over-long, predictable and rather boring.

This concludes the Fantasy Film Fest 2008.

We had real luck with our choices. Only 2 out of 10 movies I would rate average. The others were all above average for me.

The following movies went to my wishlist:
- Let the Right One In
- The Substitute
- Terra
- Outlander

Tom, this topic has been beyond excellent. Thank you. Loads of material to keep a lookout for and a good guide for when they do appear. With festivals like this, some titles can fall by the wayside, but at least you got something down if it were to happen.

Good job! Have a couple of points...

I just have noticed, that Substitute is already available for pre-order as RC1. I have just ordered it :)

I think I'll take these away from this thread:

- Let the Right One In
- The Substitute
- Terra
- Outlander
- Mirrors (as I originally intended to buy the original)

Thanks Tom!

Let the Right Ones In
This movie surprised me. I wasn't expecting liking it very much. Usually I do not like movies with such a slow pace. But this one was really great.
It is about a 12 year old boy, who forges a deep friendship with a girl, who turns out to be a vampire. Though there is some gore to be seen here, this movie is more about the bond between those two.
