This greatest supernatural thriller of all time astonishes and unsettles like no other movie.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is a favorite of mine and my late wife's both. Though it did use to scare her to the point that she made me go to every room with her after watching it... as she was afraid to be alone. Sure it is a bit slow in parts. But the story is of such interest to me that it didn't "feel" slow. I of course love the head spin scene... and then there is the whole spider walk down the stairs scene... very cool. Definitely one I would recommend.

My Thoughts:

One of my all time favorite movies. It is a true '80s classic. This movie is full of fun and laughs. I thought everyone did a very good job in this one. Granted some of the effects didn't hold up that well over the years. And even from the first time I watched it I thought the whole Say Puft Marshmellow Man thing was a little to far on the silly side. But over all it holds up well and I really did enjoy watching it again.

My Thoughts:

This is one I haven't seen in many years. While I still enjoyed this one... I remember liking it more back in the day. Maybe it is just my tastes changing as I get older. But I thought I remembered this one being funnier and more action packed. It has a few laughs in it... but no real action. It is more so a pure comedy.

My Thoughts:

Years ago when this film first came out on DVD I tried to watch this one... and just couldn't get into it. I think it was mostly do to me just not being in the mood to watch such an epic film. Not knowing what I was getting myself into at that time. On this viewing I felt completely different. I really got into the characters and the story line. I can't to continue watching the films. Though I will be watching with my roommates so have to wait for times we can all watch them together. Definitely films I recommend. Well worth the time put in to watch it.

I was a little concerned about watching this one after already knowing the twist. Whether or not it would hold up. But there was no problem. The story still kept my attention with ease. The atmosphere was still great. And I really liked the cast. I was worried for nothing as this is a film that is , in my opinion, good even for multiple viewings.

My Thoughts:

My first time seeing this film. And I must say I enjoyed it. There is no denying how closely this film resembles the TV series Happy Days. Right down to Mel's Drive In, Even has Ron Howard who plays a very similar character as he does in Happy Days. Ron Howard isn't the only familiar face from sitcoms. This movie also has Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley) and a very young Mackenzie Phillips (One Day at a Time). I almost didn't recognize her. As I said... enjoyed the film. Had fun watching it, though I do wonder how much re-watch-ability it has. Guess I will find out the next time I decide to watch it.

But soon the three find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

My Thoughts:

I found this to be a very good continuation to Batman Begins. While it is also a film that is a bit on the long side, it didn't feel like it as the time flew by. Before you knew it the film was over. I like the way they did Joker in this one and think Heath Ledger did a great job with the character. Liked the entire cast. Think the visuals were great. Definitely recommended.

Bane's reign of terror forces Bruce out of his self-imposed exile and into the ultimate battle for Gotham City's survival...and his own.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

While still worth watching, this one I feel was the worst of the Dark Knight trilogy. While the story line was interesting, it wasn't quite as good as the previous films. I thought the way they did Bane was odd and wasn't too thrilled with Cat Woman either. If by chance you never seen this one...it is worth the time put in to watch it but don't go in expecting too much.

My Thoughts:

I grew up hearing about this movie. So been wanting to see it for years. I am so glad I finally got the chance to do so. First going into it I found the movie to be very slow. This is something that normally bothers me... but in this case it is needed. The film needed time to get you familiar with the characters and set up what is happening. The one thing that really did bother me here is all the use of split screen and such used every time someone was on the phone or radio. This is something I never liked. It pulls me out of the story. The people on screen can't see the person they are talking to.... why should we? It just does not feel realistic so when they did this every time it was just too much for me. That being said, I loved the film itself. It has a great story line and some big names in the cast. I especially liked Dean Martin here. This is not the type of film I think of when I think of him. And I felt he did a great job. If you never seen this one before I definitely recommend it.

My Thoughts:

Years ago when I was a teen they showed a portion of this (the chariot race) in class in high school. Every since then I wan't to see the entire film. And now... more years later then I wish to admit to... I finally got to see the entire epic film. A true classic if there ever was one. Yes, such a long film, but it doesn't feel like it when you watch. The time went by so fast! The acting is great, the visuals are fantastic and the story will bring out multiple emotions through-out. If there was one thing I would change here it would be a little more action. Not much more mind you... but I think just a touch more would have been beneficial. But over-all recommended as a must see!

The chariot jump stunt went wrong and could easily have seriously maimed or killed stuntman Joe Canutt when he was catapulted over and in front of the chariot. Luckily he managed to cling on to the front of the chariot rather than being run over. Only part of the stunt could be used in the finished film. I imagine that the second unit director, legendary stuntman/stunt coordinator Yakima Canutt (Joe's father), felt that they had pushed their luck far enough that day.

In my opinion, CGI can never really replace practical stunts like this. There's an excitement in practical stunts that is really hard to duplicate in CGI.

My Thoughts:

I remember the first time I saw this movie. Since Spider-Man has been my favorite superhero since I was a kid (I know kind of ironic what with me having a bad case of arachnophobia) it is one of the few movies I bothered to go see at the theater when it was first released. I remember initially being disappointed with his web coming from his wrist instead of the webshooters that he created in the cartoons and such I grew up on. But shortly into the movie I decided that it at least made sense. ,, and wasn't as bad as I initially thought. Though I am happy to see the webshooters back in the new films. Toby McGuire. while good in the film, I felt was a little old for the role as I always saw Spider-Man as a younger teen when bitten. I did like Willem Defoe as the Green Goblin. Over-all enjoyed revisiting the film was well worth the time put in to watch it.

Stars:
Marlon Brando as Jor-El
Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor
Christopher Reeve as Superman / Clark Kent
Ned Beatty as Otis
Jackie Cooper as Perry White

Plot:
Richard Donner's big-budget blockbuster Superman: The Movie is an immensely entertaining recounting of the origin of the famous comic book character. Opening on Krypton (where Marlon Brando plays Superman's father), the film follows the Man of Steel (Christopher Reeve) as he's sent to Earth where he develops his alter-ego Clark Kent and is raised by a Midwestern family. In no time, the movie has run through his teenage years, and Clark gets a job at the Daily Planet, where he is a news reporter. It's there that he falls in love with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder), who is already in love with Superman. But the love story is quickly sidetracked once the villainous Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) launches a diabolical plan to conquer the world and kill Superman. Superman: The Movie is filled with action, special effects and a surprising amount of humor.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This movie... with Christopher Reeve in the starring role... was how I grew up knowing Superman to be. At the time I was more used to seeing him in the role more so then George Reeves. I believe this came from a time that I did not like to watch anything that was in Black and White.... yes... I was one of those people at one time. But I have sense learned there is a lot of great entertainment out there in Black and white... and now have all the George Reeves Superman episodes... including the early Black and White ones. But I think... to me at least... when I think Superman... I still picture Christopher Reeve.

My favorite scene in this movie... one that makes me laugh even to this day... has to be the scene when Superman is seen for the very first time. Especially when he flies up the side of the building to catch Lois Lane... saying "Don't Worry Miss, I got you."... and she comes back with... "You got me... Who's got you!!!"... I don't know what it is about it... but I love that line.

I know there is some that don't like how Christopher Reeve portrayed Clark Kent. But you know... while I understand that point of view... I find it very entertaining and fun to watch. I also felt it added to the whole Clark Kent can't be Superman... even more so then the glasses for a costume. I have to say... I think I like the entire cast for these movies. Especially Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor and of course there is Marlon Brando as Jor-El.

Also I have to say I liked how they had some nodes to past incarnations of Superman when they showed a young Lois Lane riding the train with her parents early in the movie. They had Noel Neil as her mother... who was of course Lois Lane in Adventures of Superman and Kirk Alyn as her father... who was of course Clark Kent/Superman in the old movie serials.

While this is a great film... one I have always enjoyed over multiple viewings... there is parts I didn't care for. The main one being the scenes where Lois is interviewing Superman towards the beginning of the film. Especially the scenes where they are flying together and you here the voice-over of Lois reciting the poem "Can You Read My Mind." To me this scene slowed down the film almost to the point of bordom. Though it is short enough not to effect the film to badly.

Plot:
When free-spirited petty crook Randy P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) arrives at the state mental hospital, his contagious sense of disorder jolts the routine. He's on one side of a brewing war, soft-spoken, coolly monstrous Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) on the other. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward. This electrifying adaption of Ken Kesey's bestseller swept all five major 1975 Academy Awards®: Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz and Michael Douglas), Actor (Nicholson), Actress (Fletcher), Director (Milos Forman), and Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman). Raucous, searing and with a superb cast that includes Brad Dourif, Danny DeVito, and Christopher Lloyd in his film debut, it soars.

My Thoughts:

While I found this to be a rather good movie, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting going into it. For some odd reason I had in my head that this was a comedy. While it does have some comedy in it I wouldn't classify it as such. That being said I definitely liked it. Jack Nicholson was great in this film. And I was surprised and happy to see a young Christopher Lloyd. I have always heard referrences to Nurse Ratchet for describing bad and mean nurses. Seems to me that has become exaggerated as while having a mean streak to her she really didn't seem that bad. Over all a good movie well worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:

I have seen bits and pieces of this one before. But I think that this is the first time I seen the whole film. I did find it enjoyable. Some segments more then others. My favorite segment has to be "The Sourcer's Apprentice," At least for me one big downfall of this film has to be the narrarator. He just talked too much when introducing the segments. He should have announced the segments without telling us what we were about to see. So the film is entertaining enough... but could have been better.

My Thoughts:

I wouldn't say this is a favorite film of mine. But It is very well done and holds your interest with ease. And the film did seem to hold up well after all these years. Definetly a film that is worth the three hours you need to put in to watch it. I think everyone should see this at least once. Though I do think this one is a little over hyped. I can see how people could go into this one expecting much more. Though I must say that Brando was excellent in the part.

Do you know which version you watched as there are 3 versions on the disc, The Original Theatrical Cut, The Special Edition and The Director's Cut?
The Special Edition had some scenes removed and some other minor tweaks as well as 2 major sequences added. The Director's Cut added back some of the removed scenes and removed one of the added in major sequences. I thought the Director's cut was the probably the best version when I rewatched them recently although I have a soft spot for the original theatrical cut as that was the one I saw at the cinema :) .

My Thoughts:

This is a film I went into not expecting to like at all as I am not a big fan of musicals. But found I enjoyed the story quite a bit. Though I do feel lit went on a little too long. In my opinion it should have ended with Marie coming back to the family and her and Captain Van Trapp getting married. The extra Nazi stuff in my opinion was too much and not needed at all. But over all I am still surprisingly glad I watched it.

May the 4th be with you...

So of course I had to watch at least one of the films today. Watching these in production order this time. So next time I will watched them as the studios numbered them. This is a good continuation to the previous film. And it still holds up rather well after all these years. It really is hard to believe this film it almost 40 years old. It remains well worth the time put in to watch it. And I ook forward to contue watching the saga through--out this year long challenge.

My Thoughts:

This is another film I haven't seen in years. It held up well. It is a very good story but I do find it a little on the slow side at times. Richard Dryfuss is the big name I recognize in this film... I was never much of a fan of Richard Dreyfuss though I did enjoy him in this more then I do in most movies I have seen with him. I must say that the mayor and his people is enough to agrivate someone. Worrying more about how much mone is coming into town more then people's safty. This film deserves the reputation it has recieved. A well made enjoyable film. Definitely one I would have no problem recommending.

I had to watch my roommate's copy but I do definitely hope to add this one to my own collection before too long.
