Title: Marie's Random Movie Viewing
Post by: Dragonfire on August 01, 2011, 09:15:07 AM
I'll use this thread to post about the different movies that I watch on DVD/Blu-ray or on tv that don't fit in with a marathon.  I'll post about some tv shows on DVD or Blu-ray that I watch too.  I had a thread for this before...but I haven't posted in it for so long, I couldn't find it.  So I decided to start a new one.  Hope that's ok.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Whose Line Is It Anyway? Season One: Vol. 1
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it just might be 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?', the hilarious series where gifted comics devise sketches, impersonations and songs based on suggestions, props and inspired goofiness from off-beat and off-the-wall host Drew Carey and an equally playful audience.

Ever wonder what an excitable dog would do on a 'Let's Make a Date' TV show? Or an astronaut with an alien inside him? And what would a newscast be like if the anchors were smart-aleck school kids showing off in class? Join Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady and other stars in one hilariously hot-wired situation after another from 2 delicious discs worth of the complete, first 10 episodes of Season One, plus 'Uncensored Adult Versions of the Special Features'. It's daring. It's delirious. It's comedy without a net. There is however, a website: whoselineisitanywaydvd.com.

The Improvisation Sensation Strikes Again - With More Hysterically Funny Uncensored Bonuses!
Make it up. Make it quick. Make it funny. You'll find the makings of great comedy fun in this 2-disc set featuring Season One's final 10 episodes of the hilarious improvisational series.

Drew Carey is host, court jester and provocateur of this collection of unrehearsed and unhinged situations in which talented series stars and guests create weird newscasters (here's a sports report...underwater!), a rap song about an avalanche (comin' at ya - word!), a public-information film about camping (smother those flames!) and much more. Watch. Laugh. Pause. Repeat. Improv your mind with Whose Line Is It Anyway?

I loved this show once I started watching it and I still love it.  I watch the reruns during the week on ABC Family.  I really wish the show was still being made.  I also wish for the rest of the series to be released on DVD too.  I have seen some episodes of the original British version.  That's actually how I first discovered the show.

I think the show is one of the funniest ones I've seen.  Even after seeing the episodes several times, I still find them hilarious.  Some of what is done to add humor is a bit silly, but it is so funny.  This type of improv comedy may not appeal to everyone.  It is really entertaining.

I think my favorite sketches are the dating game, party quirks, and greatest hits.  Wayne is wonderful in greatest hits.  It does seem like Ryan and Colin are trying to stump him up at times.

Both of these DVD sets have bloopers and sketches that didn't make it into episodes.  The bloopers are hilarious.  That is where the uncensored part comes in as performers start swearing when they goof.  Ryan express how much he hates the hoe down with some colorful language.  A few obscene hand gestures turn up every so often as well.

These DVD sets are great, though they don't have a lot of episodes.  I did post reviews of both sets on Epinions.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)How I Met Your Mother: The Awesome Season 4
Loaded with irresistible laughter and filled with outrageous fun, there's just one word for the hit comedy How I Met Your Mother: Awesomeness!

From dating dilemmas to career conundrums, the recently engaged Ted and his feisty friends find themselves at the crossroads of young adult life. While newlyweds Marshall and Lily contemplate parenthood, single gal Robin explores the advantages of having "friends with benefits." Meanwhile, the irrepressible, opinionated Barney continues his hilariously dogged pursuit of the fairer sex. As for Ted, his Miss Right is out there, but amid bar brawls, blizzards, and buck-naked strangers, how will he ever find her?

This isn't my favorite show, but I find it entertaining overall....so I keep watching it.  I've been picking up the DVDs when I've found them on sale.

The fourth season is entertaining overall.  I didn't care for how things worked out with Stella.  There also really wasn't much development in Ted's story about how he met his future wife.  There was more focus to other stuff going...something that keeps happening more and more.  That does get annoying at times.

The characters are mostly likable, though Barney can get annoying with how he keeps chasing random women.  He does act like a jerk at times.

There are some bloopers and commentaries as extras.

Even though I do get a little annoyed by the show, I still enjoy it.

I did get a review posted at Epinions.

On the dating front, Barney and Robin take their relationship to the next level — before calling it off — and Ted meets the roommate of his future wife in this uproarious, modern-day love story told in reverse.

So I went ahead and kept watching this series recently since I had picked up season 5.

While Ted does come closer to meeting the mother than every before, there is basically 0 development to that aspect of the show.  The longer the show is on with that happening, the more annoying it is getting.  In this season there is a lot of focus to things going on with the others while Ted just dates a bunch of random women that blend together.  I really didn't like how things between Robin and Barney were handled.  They barely get together and then they break up.  It was like what was the point?  I don't know how much I liked them together...but it was annoying for things to end so fast.  Barney was a little more likable while with her.  As soon as they break up, he's right back to being a man whore, chasing pretty much every woman he sees.  That got old a long time ago.  The show is funny and I do enjoy it overall, but it also annoys me.

There are bloopers again and some commentaries.  There is also a featurette on the making of the musical number from the 100th episode that is interesting.

This is a decent DVD set for fans of the show.

I did get a review posted on Epinions.

I love How I Met Your Mother as I've watched it since it started and have all the sets.  I was never a regular viewer of Whose Line Is It Anyway? though I will watch it when I think of it.  I also like Drew Carey's new improv show though I wish they wouldn't keep reusing certain gimmicks.

They did the same with Whose Line..certain sketches tend to be in just about every episode, while others don't turn up that often.  But I still really like the show.

I've seen some of Carey's new show..i need to remember to watch it again.

From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the AUTOBOTS™ and the DECEPTICONS™. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the evil DECEPTICONS™ and ultimate power is a clue held by Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Join the fight for mankind in the extraordinary adventure that "features some of the most spectacular action and effects sequences of any movie of its kind and will appeal to the kid in all of us." Claudia Puig, USA Today

I decided to watch Transformers again recently.  The movie has plot issues, but it is fun and entertaining overall.  It works well as a mindless action movie.  The special effects are done well and the robots look cool, though I can't tell them all apart.  I do better with the Autobots since they have more colors.  The Decepticons all look the same to me in robot form.  In some of the action scenes, it is basically impossible to tell which robots are fighting.  I don't remember having that much trouble telling them apart in the animated series.  The characters are fine, though all of them could have been developed more.  Megan Fox is clearly here just as eye candy.

Despite the plot issues and my trouble telling which robot was which, I still enjoy this one as a mindless action movie.

I did get a review posted on Epinions after I originally saw the movie in the theater.

I recently rewatched both of these movies.  I know I've posted about both of them here before, so that's why I'm putting them together in one post.

I really like both of them and I still enjoyed them even though I've seen them multiple times.  Both of them are a little silly at times, but that's part of what I like about them.  These are just fun movies for me.

Pineapple Express

I have some issues with Seth Rogen, but I have still seen several of his movies.  I decided to watch Pineapple Express when I found it on one of the movie channels I get.  I think it was one of the Encore channels.

The plot is fairly straight forward even with the attempts at complication that turn up.  The main characters are stoned out of their minds most of the time and that does impair their judgement.  There are some very funny scenes in the movie, but there are also some attempts at humor that just don't work.  There is violence in some scenes, some of which is a little graphic.  Rogen's character is involved in a rather disturbing relationship.  None of the characters are that interesting or likable.

I've seen that the movie is available on DVD and Blu-ray.  I have no idea what sort of extras they might have.  I'm really not interested in finding out and I highly doubt I'd ever add this one to my collection.

The movie has a few entertaining and funny moments, but it isn't enough overall.

I did get a review posted on Epinions.

Uncover the intimate details of the search to cast Harry Potter and his friends. See Daniel, Rupert and Emma's never-before-seen screen tests. Be there with stars and filmmakers walking onto the set of the exciting first day of shooting. Learn about Chris Columbus' critical, step-by-step decisions behind the creation of Harry Potter's world on screen. Look back on an amazing decade's worth of movies with Daniel, Rupert and Emma in new and vintage interviews never seen before.

I recently decided to watch the Harry Potter movies again.  I watched the Ultimate Edition versions of all but one of the movies - since that one isn't out yet.

I've lost track of how many times I've seen this movie and I still love it.  There is an extended version of the movie that has 7 extra minutes.  The extra minutes are mostly just a few short bits here and there, but they work well.  Some things have been changed from the book, but overall, it is a really good adaptation.

The extras with this set are wonderful.  There is all kinds of information tied to the making of the first movie.  There are interviews with Danial, Emma, and Rupert from when the first movie was filming as well as some done during the filming of other movies too.  That really shows how much they have changed since the first movie was made.  Most of the one extra is tied to all the work going into making the first movie, but a few things tied to later movies is shared as well.  The set has a little book that has lots of pictures.  The extras from the original DVD release are also included in the set.  The movie looks really good on Blu-ray, and I noticed a lot of little details that I hadn't before.

I am pretty sure that I posted about this movie here before.  I think I even shared the link to the review at Epinions.  I'll share it again just in case I forgot.  That review was posted after I saw the movie in the theater.  It is one of my older reviews.

Discover the intriguing inside stories of why so many of Britain's most celebrated stars took roles in the series. See the newly unveiled screen test between Daniel Radcliffe and Evanna Lynch (selected to play Luna out of 15,000 hopefuls!) Go on the set to see firsthand how each of the directors brought unique strengths to the series. Witness the amazing transformations as Daniel, Rupert and Emma grow with their characters over a decade of unprecedented filmmaking.

Things start to get a little darker in this one, and a little more complicated for Harry.  The story is really entertaining and again, the adaptation stays fairly close to the book.  I could have done without the snakes and the basalisk.  That think is freaky.  Daniel, Emma, and Rupert are already doing a bit better with their acting.  Rupert especially looks older than in the last movie.

The main extra in this one from the Ultimate Edition is focused on how they created the looks for the different locations and created the magical effects.  The extra is really interesting and definitely worth checking out.  There is footage that was shot while the movie was filming, and some that was tied to the later movies..like when a new location was introduced.  Some things from the sixth movie are included - I believe they were filming it when they started working on the Ultimate Edition stuff.  Nothing from the seventh movie is included.  Now that I've seen both parts of Deathly Hallows, it would have been nice to have those new locations and things included in the featurette.  The movie, just like the first, looks wonderful on Blu-ray.

I still love this movie even though I've seen it numerous times now.

I think I posted about it here before and shared the link to my review at Epinions.  I'll share the link again just in case I didn't share it before.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Wonders never seen before...
Go behind the scenes at the Creature Shop, where wizards of animatronics, prosthetic makeup and computer-generated imagery work their magic • Share Daniel, Rupert and Emma's memories of creatures from the magnificent Buckbeak to the malevolent Dementors • Watch as creatures develop from page to sketch to model to screen • Discover how actors are transformed from humans to rats and werewolves • Witness Voldemort's evolution from grotesque, infant-like creature to the Darkest Force of all.

While I still really enjoyed this movie, I did wonder about some of the changes - I still don't think there was a need to move the Whomping Willow or Hagrid's house.  I also think that a few explanations were left out that should have been included.  I know someone who hadn't read the book before seeing the movie and they were completely confused on some things.  It wouldn't have taken that long to share the few little bits.  It is a decent adaptation overall.  I like the new characters and creatures that turn up.  The story continues to get a little darker, just like with the books.  There is a little more violence, though nothing too extreme.  There are a lot of magical elements to the movie.  I love how often the moving portraits are seen, even just in the backgrounds.  I was disappointed that Nealy Headless Nick was missing.  This was the first of the books that didn't deal with something closely tied to Voldemort....and he doesn't turn up in any way.  The dementors are wonderfully creepy.  The movie, like the first two, looks wonderful on Blu-ray.  I still don't really like the look of the werewolf in wolf form, but that is a minor issue for me.

The main extra in this Ultimate Edition is focused on how the different creatures have been made.  Creatures from all the movies through the sixth one are featured.  The different models used are seen, including a huge one of one of the dragons from the fourth movie.  The special effects used to create other creatures, like Buckbeak, are discussed.  The featurette is wonderfully entertaining and interesting.  Again there are interviews with cast and crew, including Daniel, Emma, and Rupert.

I did post a review on Epinions after I saw the movie in the theater originally.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Journey into the Magic of Music and Sound...
Discover how musical themes for Harry, Hedwig, Luna and Lord Voldermort define each  character's on-screen identity • Learn how sound effects experts create the crunch of footsteps on snow and the whoosh of a flying broomstick • Go to the recording studios and see how each of the composers brought his orchestral vision to the films • Plunge into the fun as Daniel gets the sound of underwater dialogue just right • Feel the magic as music is added to a scene, intensifying the action and guiding the story.

This movie sees yet another new director making different choices and an adaptation that is good, though not as good as it could have been.  There are a few important details not included..something that happened far too often with these movies.  The task when Harry has to deal with the dragon is made longer, including a bit of a chase that wasn't in the book and really wasn't needed.  The story continues getting a bit darker and there is more violence, mostly later in the movie.  Some of what happens is a bit disturbing.  It makes sense that this is the first of the movies to be rated PG-13.

Daniel, Emma, and Rupert continue to improve their acting.  The cast is all wonderful, it is just too bad that some of them don't get more to do.  The movie looks great on Blu-ray.

The main extra on the Ultimate Edition is focused on the sound and music.  I didn't take the time to watch it yet, but I will.  I'm sure it will just as interesting as the extras in the previous Ultimate Editions have been.  There are at least a few extra scenes included in the movie.  There is a slightly different opening that works really well.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Deeper. Bolder. Darker. As the eight Harry Potter films trace Harry's journey from innocent schoolboy to selfless hero, the series undergoes a transformation. Evolution – packed with exclusive content only available here – takes you along for every exciting step of the 10-year filmmaking odyssey.

I had some concerns before seeing this movie originally because I had issues with the book.  It is my least favorite of the books because of Harry's attitude.  While it is understandable that he's upset about certain things, I just didn't like the way it came across in the book.  It was like he was having a temper tantrum all the time.  Thankfully that was handled better in the movie.

This one is based on the longest book and it ends up the shortest movie.  I have an article about this movie that had a quote from David Yates in it about how he set out from the beginning to make this movie shorter than others.  As a result of him wanting to make this the shortest of the movies, the story is chopped up entirely too much.  Important explanations are missing and some of the set up for the final movies is left out.  The story really is a bit of a mess with how it is hacked up.  This movie has the worst adaptation and it is my least favorite movie.

Delores Umbridge is twisted and evil, though I'm not sure she comes across as evil as she did in the book.  Snape is horribly underused again, and his memory is so short when shown it might as well have been left out altogether.  The most important bit of it wasn't included.   Luna is wonderful and absolutely perfect.  Neville is starting to show he's more than a clumsy kid who struggles to get spells right.  I didn't care much for the whole Harry Cho relationship in the book and I think it was handled better in the movie.  It just flowed a little better I guess.  I was disappointed that the more impressive spells that Hermione did in connection with starting Dumbledore's Army were left out.  Those are small things, but they help reinforce just how powerful a witch she already is.  I'm most irritated about the explanations being left out.  It would have just taken a few minutes to cover that stuff.  The way the story was mishandled for this movie, all because Yates insisted on a shorter running time, convinced me that he was not a good pick as director.  While I became a bit less irritated with him in the last 2 movies, I still don't think he was right for Potter.  I did like the way that some information was shared by showing articles in the Daily Prophet.  I also liked Fred and George's escape from the school, though I really wanted to see their swamp.

The main extra in the Ultimate Edition is focused on the changes that the movie series have gone through.  I haven't taken the time to watch this one yet but I will.  The original extras are also included, along with a book that has a lot of pictures from the making of the movies.

I posted a review on Epinions after seeing the movie in the theater.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
In Harry Potter's world, portraits come to life, potions transform, time reverses, Quidditch players soar, dragons attack and magic is everywhere. Now, fascinating new insights, interviews and watch-it-happen footage let you experience the triumphs of technical wizards who conjured up an awe-inspiring alternate reality.

I have issues with this movie, again with the changes made and things cut out for the most part, but I do like it overall.  I was disappointed that David Yates returned to direct this one..not to mention the final two movies.  The Dursleys are gone again..that doesn't bother me too much, but I don't like the way Harry is out in a muggle coffee shop, reading the Daily Prophet in front of muggles and hitting on the waitress.  That just doesn't seem right to me.  It isn't shared that people are disappearing..that could have easily been done by having Hermione make a comment at the table when she was reading the paper..or even by showing the paper again.  I absolutely hate  the attack on the Burrow.  That scene is pointless and a complete waste of time that could have been spent better setting up the final movies.  Harry is not properly prepared for what he has to do.  I didn't really like how things were changed with Dumbledore's story arc either..it was just a few little changes, but I didn't like them.  Snape still doesn't get enough to do, though it is slightly better.  The memories that are included are done well, but not enough are included.  I read that originally all the memories were in the script, but Yates declared that most of them were unnecessary, so they were cut.  He has no appreciation for the source material and it is really irritating.  Yes I am a bit picky where Harry Potter is concerned.  I can't help it.

The movie does look really good on Blu-ray.

The main extra in the Ultimate Edition is focused on the effects for all the magical things.  I haven't taken the time to watch it yet, but it is just a matter of time. :)

I did post about this one here after I first saw the movie in the theater.  I'll share the link to my Epinions review again.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Harry, Ron and Hermione set out to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort's power – the Horcruxes. On their own and on the run, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever...but Dark Forces threaten to tear them apart.

I saw this one twice in the theater and I've watched it 3 or 4 times since I got the Blu-ray.  The movie has a slower pace, but that is needed for what is going on.  The search for the horcruxes and how to destroy the one they find is very important to what is going on.  It causes strains in the friendships between Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they face increasing danger while not being sure what they are doing or where they are going.  Some things have been changed again..I really would have liked there to been something about Harry's birthday while still at the Burrow..I really wanted to see him get his present from Molly and Arthur.  I'm not that bothered by the changes.  I do feel that the set up for the movie was mishandled.  I do think it was a good idea to split the final book into two movies because so much happens.  If it was all in one movie, too much would have been cut and it would have been a giant mess.  The effects are done well, though Harry's partronus still isn't shown right.  It is a stag, not a floating ball of light.  Some of the characters are used very little, like Snape, or left out altogether.  I knew that would happen since everything is taking place away from Hogwarts.  The movie looks good on Blu-ray and the effects are very well done.  I absolutely hate seeing Voldemort's snake.

This movie does have the scene that has hit me the hardest emotionally in all the movies.  Possibly in the books too.
(click to show/hide)

Overall, this is a very strong movie and a good adaptation even with the issues I have with it.  The movie is darker and a bit more violent.  This one is not for younger children.

I did post about this one here after I first saw the movie in the theater.  I'll share the link to my review at Epinions again.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Police Academy
The call went out. The recruits came in. No longer would police cadets have to meet standards of height, weight and other requirements. Brains were optional too. Can't spell IQ? Don't know the number 911? No matter. Police Academy grads are ready to uphold law and disorder.

Building on a nightsticks-and-slapstick tradition going back to the Keystone Cops, Police Academy spawned 6 sequels plus 2 TV series (one animated, one live-action). Now the popular debut film calls for backup, adding arresting 20th-anniversary DVD extras. Join Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg), Thompson (Kim Cattrall), Harris (G.W. Bailey), Hightower (Bubba Smith), Jones (Michael Winslow), Lassard (George Gaynes) and more. They're not the Five-O. They're the Five Uh-Oh. They make the world a funnier place.

I decided to watch this one again.  Yes it is silly, but it is entertaining.  This one is a decent choice when in the mood for something silly.  The characters are likable for the most part, and very entertaining.  Harris isn't exactly a nice guy, but he always cracks me up, especially when Mahoney plays some tricks on him.  The acting isn't the greatest, but it isn't horrible either.  The DVD I have has a few interesting extras.  Some things in the movie are a bit dated, but it is still funny and entertaining.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment
An anti-social nut job and his leathered band of pranksters are on the prowl, spray-painting the town red and emptying the pockets of anyone sharing the sidewalk. In the wake of this crime wave, you might wonder where the educational system went wrong. But then again, consider the Police Academy.

For when the newly graduated misfits in blue tangle with these pinheaded punkers in 'Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment', the result is an open-and-shut case of nonstop hilarity. Steve Guttenberg, George Gaynes and other 'Police Academy' originals return to the roll call, facing the formidable Bobcat Goldthwait in the tailor-made role of the wacked-out gangleader. It's a riot – a laugh-riot – in the streets!

I decided to watch this one again since I watched the first one.  This one, like the first, is very silly at times, but it is entertaining.  I've seen it several times now and I do still enjoy it overall.  The plot is not that complicated, but it does manage to entertain.  I really don't like the new character of Zed.  His voice annoys me.  I don't care much for Babcat Goldthwait in general because of his voice.  It just grates on my nerves.

Anyway, the movie is fun and entertaining, though it won't appeal to everyone.

I saw the first two when they were released at the cinema. I doubt they'd hold up too well for me, but I thought they were quite funny at the time. I never bothered with them sgain after those first two.

I have had the urge to watch them again myself... but unfortunately I don't own any of them. I remember at the time they were released on VHS that I really enjoyed the first 2 or 3... and still pretty much enjoyed some after it... but do remember them going downhill. I just can't remember how far into the series I actually enjoyed. I would be willing to get them all (in the 2 four movie sets) if I could get them cheap enough at some point.

I agree they go downhill...but I still enjoyed most of them at least a little.  I've never seen all of the Mission to Moscow one..saw a few minutes on tv once and then turned it off.

Head for cover! Don Knotts and Tim Conway are Wild West outlaws who can't hit the broad side of a barn – but never miss when it comes to rounding up laughs!

The hilarity begins when a roving bachelor (Bill Bixby) inherits three young orphans and a wealth of problems. When the youngsters stumble upon a huge golden nugget, they must fend off the greedy townspeople. So the kids join forces with the bumbling outlaws to stage a robbery of the gold. Little do they know a surly gang of sharpshooters plans to beat them to the draw!

If you're aiming for fun, saddle up and head out with The Apple Dumpling Gang!

I remember seeing this one several times when I was growing up.  It had been years since the last time I saw it and I had forgotten a few things about the movie.  I still really enjoyed it.  It is a little silly in some scenes, but the silliness works really well with what is happening.  Amos and Theodore are extremely funny and they add the most humor to what is going on.  I really like them.  The plot isn't that complicated, but enough is going on to keep things interesting.

Some things look a little dated in the movie now, but it is still very entertaining and fun.  It is definitely worth watching.

What wonders await you in Willy Wonka's factory? Explore fields of soft minty sugar grass in the Chocolate Room...Sail along the Chocolate River in a pink sugar boat...Experiment with Everlasting Gobstoppers in the Inventing Room...Observe talented squirrels in the Nut Room and travel to the Television Room by a glass elevator. You'll find a lot that's funny, a little that's mysterious...and an adventure as sweet as a satisfying as a Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight bar. This dazzling film adapted from Roald Dahl's classic children's novel, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore, is your Golden Ticket to a world so inventive, so imaginative, you won't want to miss a delicious moment!

I was in the mood to watch this one again recently.  I know some people don't care for this version or how Johnny Depp played Willie Wonka, but I really liked it.  I just find the movie fun and entertaining even after seeing it several times.  I only saw the original for the first time after seeing this one.  The versions are a little different.

I really enjoy the movie and think it is very well done.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Live Free or Die Hard
The action explodes as never before in this 2-Disc Collector's Edition of Live Free or Die Hard! Start with the unrated version, packed with more thrills, more attitude...more John McClane! Then add a spectacular 10-part documentary that takes you where no Die Hard fan has gone before, plus an uncensored interview with Bruce Willis on the studio backlot and more. With over two and a half hours of special features, this is the ultimate Die Hard experience. Yippee ki yay!

Even though a lot of time had passed since the release of the third movie and some people probably figured there was no point in another Die Hard movie, I really enjoyed this one and think it fits in well with the previous movies.

John is a bit older, but he is still a bad ass.  He is once again in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he still steps up and does what has to be done.  That's the kind of guy he is.  If that aspect of the movie had been changed, the movie wouldn't have worked as well I don't think.  What made the first two movies so great - while I still like the third movie, I don't think it is as good as the first two - was that John was just a normal guy thrown into the middle of a huge, dangerous mess.  He gets hurt and makes some mistakes along the way, but he gets done what needs to be done.  He's not some unstoppable guy who dodges bullets and is never hurt in any way.  Even though he does some crazy, wild things, it seems more believable because of how the character is set up.

I like the plot and the fact that the bad guy is using technology.  Thomas is a decent bad guy and I like him overall, but he's no Hans Grubber.

I like the character of Matt and how he interacts with John.  I mostly like Lucy as well, though she is slighting annoying a few times.  John is a lot like he was in the first movie, but he's changed from how he was in the third movie.  In that movie, things were really bad for him.  I'm glad that the movie has the character more stable even though there are issues with his relationship with his daughter.

It does seem wrong that the studio pushed for and got the PG-13 rating.  A Die Hard movie having that rating is just wrong...and then they go and cut off John's signature line.  At least there is an unrated version on the DVD - which is what I always watch.  It's not that I particularly like hearing lots of swearing, but John is a character that uses colorful language...that was clearly established in the first movies, and changing it now is wrong.  I think most of the differences are in adding in more swearing.  I'm not sure if the unrated version is more violent or not.

People who liked the previous Die Hard movies should give this one a chance.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Laverne & Shirley: The Second Season
Laverne & Shirley, the hilarious female duo, returns to DVD with the Second Season. Reminisce with the tough-talking, street-smart Laverne De Fazio (Penny Marshall), the bright-eyed, naive Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams), and their eccentric but loveable neighbors, Lenny (Michael McKean) & Squiggy (David L. Lander). Relive each laugh-filled moment from the second season of this wildly popular, best-loved sitcom that includes all 23 second-season episodes in a 4-disc set. Give them a chance to "schlemiel-schlimazel" their way into your hearts again.

I watched Laverne & Shirley a lot when I was younger and I really enjoyed the show.  I've still enjoyed it when watching it again on the two DVD sets I have.  I want to get the other DVD sets that are out..and hopefully the rest the seasons will come out eventually.  Most of the time, things that happen in the show are a bit silly, but that works.  I find the silliness entertaining, but it could turn off some viewers.  Every so often something a little more serious is dealt with.

The characters are likable and entertaining.  Lenny and Squiggy crack me up.

The show is just fun and entertaining.

May the farce be with you in this hysterically funny space oddity, created by comic genius Mel Brooks, that will send you into hyperspace with fits of laughter! Lampooning everything from Star Wars to Star Trek, this outrageous send-up of epic sci-fi movies is full of cosmic crazies who score "eight trillion on the laugh-meter" (Gene Shalit, NBC-TV)!

Fearless – and clueless – space heroes Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half man/half dog sidekick Barf (John Candy) wage interstellar warfare to free Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). On the way to the rescue – in their Winnebago – they confront the huge, gooey Pizza The Hutt (voice of Dom De Luise), sassy robot Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers) and a wise little creature named Yogurt (Mel Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz" in order to bring peace – and merchandising rights – to the entire galaxy!

I first saw this movie years ago..probably within a few years of it coming out.  I really liked the movie then and I still like it.  I know a lot of people think it is stupid, but I like it.  Yes it is silly, but it is entertaining.  I like how it pokes fun at Star Wars.  The cast is decent and I just really enjoy the movie.  It is probably too stupid for some people.  I think it is worth checking out, though many don't consider it as good as other Mel Brooks movies.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Die Hard
High above the city of L.A. a team of terrorists has seized a building, taken hostages, and declared war. But one man has managed to escape detection...an off-duty cop. He's alone...tired...and the only chance anyone has.

Bruce Willis stars as New York City Detective John McClane, newly arrived in Los Angeles to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia). But as McClane waits for his wife's office party to break up, terrorists take control of the building. While the terrorist leader, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) and his savage henchman (Alexander Godunov) round up hostages, McClane slips away unnoticed. Armed with only a service revolver and his cunning, McClane launches his own one-man war. A crackling thriller from beginning to end, DIE HARD explodes with heart-stopping suspense.

I love this movie and think it is one of the best action movies.  John McClane is a wonderful character who seems more realistic than characters in other action movies even when he does unbelievable things.  He has some issues, but he deals with the situation he ends up in because no else is there to do.  He could have tried to find somewhere in the building to hide and hope the cops would come.  Instead he decides to tackle the problem himself, with only his handgun while wearing no shoes.  He gets hurt, but he keeps going because someone has to deal with the terrorists.  The action is done well, though it isn't the most believable at times.  There is no way that someone could survive what John does, but that doesn't bother me.

Hans Grubber is the best villain from the Die Hard movies.  He's one of the best movie villains ever.  He tends to stay calm, showing only mild irritation at first because John is delaying some of his plans.  Hans gets more and more annoyed with John as the movie progress.  Hans acts a bit more refined and he's as intelligent as he is deadly.  Alan Rickman is absolutely wonderful in the part.  He's so good at playing bad guys, but I think Hans is the best.  This, along with his performances as Snape in the Potter movies, are my favorite performances by him.

This is a well done action movie that has held up well and definitely deserves to be watched.

Sherlock Holmes in Dressed to Kill

I watched this movie when I found it on one of the movie channels I get.  This is the first of the Sherlock movies with Nigel Bruce and Basil Rathbone that I've seen.  I did enjoy the movie and would like to try to see more of them.

The plot isn't too complicated and mostly straight forward, dealing with three music boxes and a group of criminals that are desperate to get them back.  The mystery is interesting, though it could have been slightly stronger.  Overall, it is entertaining.

Sherlock and Watson work well together in the movie, though it is clear that this version of Watson isn't as bright as some of the others I've seen.  He's nice enough, but he is rather clueless at times.  Sherlock demonstrates his intelligence in a few ways without coming across as arrogant like has happened in one or two of the other Sherlock movies I've seen.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie and I'm glad I decided to watch it.

I had seen bits of this one on tv different times.  I finally watched all of it after I found it on HBO not long ago.

The plot is fairly simple, but it is really entertaining, mostly because of Spencer and Hepburn.  They are wonderful together.  I have no idea how accurate the computer - or electronic brain as it was called at times in the movie - is.  I do know that the first computers were huge, but I don't know that there were any when the movie came out.

I really enjoyed the movie and think it is worth watching, though the plot may seem too simple to some people.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol
Sign up for more manic misadventure with the buffoons in blue, this time featuring rising stars Sharon Stone as a reporter who strikes sparks with Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) and David Spade as a loopy skateboarder.

Cmdt. Lassard (George Gaynes) decides to toughen up neighborhood watch groups by training them to be Citizens on Patrol, or COPs. And guess who the instructors are? The same grads who thought the Fs on their own report card meant "Fantastic." When rival officer Lt. Harris (G.W. Bailey) sees the blue leading the beleaguered, he decides the time is ripe to discredit the Academy. But leave it to our hapless heroes to save the day - bumblingly - by taking to the skies on biplanes and balloons for a frantic finale. All aboard!

Yes I know this is hugely silly...and far from the best of the movies.  However, I still enjoy it.  The plot is ridiculous and rather weak.  This is my least favorite of the movies...of the ones I've seen.  I haven't seen the one where they go to Moscow.  This is the last one that Steve Guttenburg was in.  It is also the last time Bobcat Goldwaith is in one of the movies too.  He is really annoying and his character really gets on my nerves.  The comedy is very silly, and even stupid at times.  The characters are pretty much the same as they have been for the returning characters and the new characters are flat and not that developed.  Sharon Stone's character just sort of shows up and doesn't do much.  It is clear she is supposed to be a love interest for Mahoney, but that really doesn't go anywhere.

Despite all the issues, I still manage to enjoy this one overall.

I would have gone with 2.5 stars at Epinions if I had the option.  Since I didn't, I decided to round up to 3.

Sun, fun and babes in shades. Where else but Miami Beach? Buffoons, blockheads and party-hearty animals. Who else but the Police Academy gang? Put them all together for Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach, the caper that takes our klutzy cops on the road.

Our badge-carrying bunglers are in Miami for a convention honoring Cmdt. Lassard. But crime doesn't take a vacation, even if our heroes do. Lassard is kidnapped. And not even the lure of limbo beach parties will stop the intrepid troopers' uproarious rescue attempts. So join your armed and hilarious favorites. If there's a Most Wanted List for laughter, these loony coppers have just gotta be on it.

I enjoyed this one slightly more than the 4th movie, but it still has some issues.  The plot is very silly, but I still find it entertaining overall.  This is the first time Nick, Lassard's nephew, turns up.  He's a cop in Miami and ends up involved in what is going on.  There isn't an explanation for where Mahoney is, or any of the other characters that aren't back.  The humor is very silly, with some of it just stupid.  Several characters play tricks on Harris again..and while that is predictable, it is kind of entertaining.  The movie is a bit different since the location changes, but that is the only difference.  There really isn't anything new or different and most of what happens is predictable.

People who have liked the other movies might find something to like...or they may be disappointed since it isn't as good as the earlier movies.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)I Love Lucy: The Complete First Season
Here's how it all began - the classic episodes that started America's long-running love affair with everyone's favorite madcap redhead, Lucille Ball.  Plus the rarely seen pilot episode that sold the I LOVE LUCY series.  By the end of its initial season, I LOVE LUCY was TV's first bona fide smash hit - the very first program seen in more than 10 million homes.  America just couldn't get enough of this stunning new comedy talent - Lucy as a less-than-poised would-be ballerina in "The Ballet," Lucy battling the world's longest loaf of bread in "Pioneer Women," and Lucy in her greatest performance, as the health tonic-guzzling TV pitchwoman for Vitameatavegamin in "Lucy Does A TV Commercial." ("And it's so tasty, too!")  Fall in love all over again, with the wild and wacky series that changed TV forever!

This show has held up really well and is still very funny and entertaining.  Many of the episodes deal with plots that are a bit more simple, but they are still really entertaining.  I remember having seen most of these episodes before, but they are still very funny.  I did notice more this time how often Ricky was telling Lucy that her place was at home, cooking and cleaning, and stuff like that.  He's a bit of a chauvinist...but given when the show was made, it isn't surprising.

I love when Lucy does the commercial for Vitameatavegamin...that's hilarious.

The DVD set has a decent amount of extras for an older show.  The picture quality is really good for all the episodes.  It was interesting to see that different goofs ended up making it into different episodes since when they filmed the show, they rarely did retakes even though they were filming.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid

I watched this one after finding it on HBO.  It is a bit different from most of Steve Martin's other movies, but I ended up really enjoying it.

The movie is a bit different with how things are set up.  It is in black and white, and sort of a spoof of noir or detective movies.  Martin's character, Ribgy is a detective who gets pulled into a case by a beautiful woman.  There are clips from several noir movies used, and the way they are done blends in well with the plot of the movie.  The clips are done to make it look like Rigby is talking to the characters from the other movies.  I could tell when clips were being used even when I didn't always recognize the movie the clips were from.  I liked the way the clips were used.  There is a bit of mystery to what is going on as well as some suspense.  I did think there was a decent amount of humor to what was going on even though I have seen funnier movies.

I thought the movie was really entertaining and I think it is worth watching.

Meet Jerry Dandridge. He's sweet, sexy, and he likes to sleep in late. You might think he's the perfect neighbor. But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there's just one thing you should know. Jerry prefers his drinks warm, red—and straight from the jugular! It's FRIGHT NIGHT, a horrific howl starring Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire and William Ragsdale as the frantic teenager struggling to keep Jerry's deadly fangs out of his neck. Only 17-year-old Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) knows Jerry's bloodcurdling secret. When Charley can't get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who used to be the "Great Vampire Killer" of the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse) from the wrathful bloodsucker's toothy embrace? If you love being scared, FRIGHT NIGHT will give you the nightmare of your life!

I decided to watch Fright Night again recently.  I still really enjoy the movie.  It's just a fun, entertaining vampire movie.  Some things are a little corny, but it still works.  Some things are a little dated, but the movie is still worth seeing.

A crime spree called Operation Chaos is plaguing the city. Time to call out our frontline defense. And when that defense is made up of Police Academy alumni, it's also time to pray!

Bubba Smith, Michael Winslow, David Graf, Marion Ramsey, Leslie Easterbrook, G.W. Bailey, George Gaynes and other returnees strap on laugh-riot gear for Police Academy 6: City Under Siege. A mysterious Mr. Big is the mastermind behind a gang that robs banks and jewelers. Cmdt. Lassard is suspected when it becomes clear that a police department information leak is keeping the bad guys one step ahead. Solving the case won't take a mastermind, just an arsenal of gags and goofiness in the fun Police Academy tradition.

This is one of the weaker movies in the series, though I still managed to enjoy it..a little.  I remember liking it more when I first saw it when it came out.  The plot has some potential, but it ends up being rather weak.  There are some funny moments, but not enough.  Things are predictable and the jokes don't work as well.  The characters aren't developed that much and nothing new is added to the returning characters.

The movie is ok, but far from great.

MacGruber

I decided to watch MacGruber after seeing that the movie was on HBO.

I've seen at least some of the sketches with the character on Saturday Night Live, but they were never my favorites.  There isn't a lot to them, so a lot had to be added to make a movie.  More background for a few characters is shared and there is some explanation for a few things, but there still isn't much to the plot.  Things are kind of interesting, at least at first, but then things just fall apart.  It seems like a decision was made to be as crude and gross as possible.  MacGruber swears a lot, and anytime things aren't going his way, he starts offering to perform sexual acts on people..even men.  The spoofing of MacGyver continues in the movie.  MacGruber does use a bunch of random stuff in different situations.  AT one point something really, really bizarre is done with celery.

The characters are all right, though they are rather flat and most of them are idiots.

The movie isn't that good and it really isn't worth watching.  It isn't completely horrible, but it isn't that good.

I did get a review posted on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

I first saw some episodes of Eureka when there was a marathon on the Sci-fi...Sy-Fy..whatever...channel.  I'm not sure what season the episodes I saw them were from.  Since I enjoyed the show, I decided to pick up the DVD sets when I found them fairly cheap.

The first season shows how Jack first ends up in Eureka and becomes the sheriff.  He is learning about all the odd things going on in the town along with the viewers.  There is a bit of mystery to some of what happens that helps to keep things interesting.  A lot of odd things happen in the episodes.  Those things may make the show too different for some people, but I think those things helps make the show more entertaining and interesting.  The characters are likable, though there could be more character development.  Overall I really enjoyed the show.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)The IT Crowd: The Complete Fourth Season
Geeky before geeky was cool (we’re looking at you, The Big Bang Theory), this is the original nerdy sitcom with two guys and a girl: IT geniuses Roy (Chris O’Dowd) and Moss (Richard Ayoade) and their couldn’t-change-a-lightbulb boss Jen (Katherine Parkinson).  In Season 4, the lads try and fail yet again to socialize with the people upstairs, Jen tries to work her way up the corporate ladder by becoming Entertainment Manager and later pretending she can speak Italian and Moss proves a whiz on a TV game show.  So dive into the show the Los Angeles Times once called “the funniest, straight-ahead sitcom of the American fall television season.”

I picked this one up when I found it on sale.  The series continues to be very fun and entertaining.  The characters haven't changed much, though they all go through some different things in this season.  I love they way they interact with each other.  Some of what happens is a bit silly, but it works so well.  The characters are great and very entertaining.  They all have some sort of quirk or issue.

I really enjoy this show and am glad I decided to check it out.  The fourth season is still entertaining and definitely worth seeing.

Mr. Mom

I first saw Mr. Mom years ago, probably not that long after it originally came out.  I think it was when I stayed with my grandmother.  She had HBO.  I seem to remember watching this movie over and over and over...along with some others.  Anyway, I saw it a lot years ago.  I found it on HBO recently and watched it for the first time in years.  I still really enjoyed the movie.

The idea of the dad staying home with the kids was a bit different when the movie originally came out.  Since then, I know a lot of fathers have ended up staying home with the kids while the mothers worked for whatever reason.  With how things are in this country right now and how so many people have lost jobs, that aspect of the plot is still very relevant even though some things seem a little dated.  The movie is pretty funny, though some of the humor is a bit silly.  Most of the humor comes from how Jack deals with or attempts to deal with things around the house.  The plot is fairly simple and straight forward, but the movie is still very entertaining and definitely worth checking out.  There isn't a lot of development to the characters, but the main characters are likable.  The cast does really well with their parts.

Modern Problems

I first saw Modern Problems years ago, I think on Encore.  I recently found it on HBO and decided to watch it again.  I remembered enjoying the movie overall.

Things are a little silly, but the movie is entertaining.  The plot isn't complicated, though there is one or two twists.  There are some special effects used in a few scenes.  The effects do look dated, but they aren't that bad considering when the  movie was made.  The characters are kind of flat and it isn't the easiest to like a few of them.  The cast is fine in their parts.

The movie does have a few issues, but it is entertaining.  Chevy Chase has done better.

Yes he does sort of end up possessed.  It seems like it is just a reaction to be exposed to toxic waste...then later the possession angle comes out.  I had forgotten that part of the story before watching it again.

The Seven-Per-Cent Solution

I decided to watch this one after I found it on one of the HBO channels I get.  It is different from other Sherlock Holmes movies I've seen.  There is more focus on personal things tied to Sherlock and the mystery takes a back seat.  This is one of the few movies I've seen that doesn't just skim or gloss over Sherlock using cocaine.  His addiction is a huge plot point since much of the movie is devoted to his attempts to fight and overcome it.  There isn't as much going on, and several scenes do move kind of slow.  Later in the movie, a mystery does turn up and while it isn't that strong, it helps to make the movie more interesting.  There is a cool train chase scene at one point.  There really isn't any violence in the movie.  When Sherlock is fighting his addiction, he does start hallucinating ... and of course he has to hallucinate that he sees snakes everywhere.  I could have done without that part.

The cast is fine, though nothing really special.  Robert Duvall as Watson is kind of weird.  There is something about his voice that is odd..the tone is off and the accent isn't that great.  He does seem miscast.

Overall, the movie is enjoyable and entertaining.  People who like the character of Sherlock may find something to like about this one.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Fourth Season
"Four seasons in, it is still laugh-out-loud funny. Every episode, every week," says USA Today's Robert Bianco about the hit series The Big Bang Theory. Subject his conclusion to empirical analysis by watching all 24 Episodes of Season Four on 3 Discs. This season, the Big Bang gang's romantic universe expands. On the rebound from Penny, Leonard falls for Raj's sister Priya. Sheldon gets a girlfriend - Amy, a dour neurobiologist who declares herself Penny's BFF. Howard and Bernadette heat up; meanwhile, Raj is romancing her in Bollywood daydreams. Observe all the forces of attraction in this genius, award-winning comedy.

I continue to enjoy The Big Bang Theory and it is still my favorite show.  I'm not as happy about a few developments in the fourth season, but the show is still great and entertaining.

When Amy was introduced at the end of the third season, I wasn't sure what to think.  I really like her and think she works really well for the show.  She fits in.  She is sort of a female Sheldon, but there is more to her than that and she is very entertaining.  I also like that Bernadette is around more after she and Howard got back together.  She is works and fits in too.  I liked how the women were shown doing things together, giving Penny someone other than the guys to interact with and react to.  Though I still love seeing how she deals with the guys.

My issues with this season are tied to Leonard.  The one does go back to the end of season three.  Since he and Penny broke up, Leonard has sort of turned into a man slut and I don't like it.  Right after the break up, he jumped into bed with the woman who came to visit Sheldon..the scientist.  I can't remember her name now.  That just didn't seem in character for Leonard, especially given how strong his feelings for Penny are.  Time was taken to establish that Leonard hadn't had many relationships and he didn't just jump into bed with them..then all that goes out the window.  There is more of that in the 4th season, even having Leonard have sex with an older woman to get money for the college.  I didn't like that at all.  I really hate his relationship with Pryia.  When it first came out that the two of them had hooked up previously, I wasn't thrilled, but it didn't bother me too much.  But once she came back and they started dating, I hated it.  She keeps trying to change him - making him wear contacts that actually cause him pain - and then goes and tells him not to talk to Penny anymore...and she hides the relationship from her parents.  Pryia is so controlling.  I just don't like her and that relationship is horrible.  She doesn't fit with the show either.  She seems to always be judging the guys, especially Sheldon.  That relationship needs to end.

The different references to comic book characters and movies still pop up and I love those things.  The main characters are great and I love the cast.

The DVD has some short bits that have cast members interviewing each other.  Those are entertaining.  It is so weird to hear the actress who plays Bernadette talk ..her voice is so different in real life.  The bloopers are pretty funny again.

Overall, I still love the show even though I hate the Leonard/Pryia relationship.

I did post a review of the DVD set at Epinions if anyone wants to take a look. :)

Famous mystery novelist Richard Castle and NYPD detective Kate Beckett return for the suspenseful Third Season of ABC's brilliantly funny series, Castle. Enjoy every inspired idea and flirtatious moment as this fiery duo solve the strangest homicides New York as to offer.

It's the most entertaining season yet as Castle's wildly funny storytelling skills work their way into every case. Between his mixed-up partnership with Beckett and his relationships with his diva mother and his clever daughter, Alexis, Castle is always on his toes.

Crime-fighting has never been this much fun! Get on the beat and relive every wild and witty moment in this 5-disc DVD set.

I still really enjoy this show.  I love the main characters.  They are the best thing about the show.  The cases are sometimes a bit silly, but they are always entertaining.  I like that there is some humor mixed in with what is going on.  The cases mostly stand alone, while the shows also deal with some on going stories that deal with relationships and things like that.

Things tied to the death of Kate's mother have been coming up since the first season.  More of that is dealt with in this season and Kate does discover more.  There are surprises with that aspect of the show that I think work well.  I thought that the season finale was really good..one of the best I've seen in a long time.  I do think the episode ends with a cliffhanger.

The extras are interesting and worth watching.  The bloopers are pretty funny.   The DVD set is really good for fans of the show.

Step into the world of ABC's compelling new drama starring Dana Delany as a sharp-witted, headstrong medical examiner with unorthodox crime-solving methods and strained relationships with the living.

Dr. Megan Hunt (Delaney) was second to none - a brilliant neurosurgeon in a class all her own - but when her lifesaving sift is destroyed in a career-ending car accident, she reinvents herself as a medical examiner.  Armed with keen instincts and vast medical knowledge, Dr. Hunt uses the victims' bodies to tell the stories of their lives and untimely deaths.  Relive all the twists and turns of each case as Dr. Hunt seeks justice for every victim while also embarking on a journey of personal redemption.

Own each thrilling episode of ABC's Body Of Proof: The Complete First Season, including never-before-seen bonus features, in this 2-disc set.

I started watching this when it started airing in the spring.  I missed a few of the episodes, but I liked it enough to pick up this set when I found it for only $17.

Every episode has a different murder investigation that Megan gets involved in.  She ends up figuring out things from the bodies that ultimately help solve the crimes.  The show is a little like Bones in some ways because of how the bodies of the victims are so important to solving the cases, but it is different too.  I think the show is a bit like Quincey as well, but it has been so long since I saw any episodes of that one, that I could be wrong.  The cases are interesting and not always predictable.  So far, nothing too gross has been shown, even when Megan is doing an autopsy.  None of the victims have been in really gross condition that seems to happen on Bones fairly often.

Megan is a very interesting and complex character.  She can be a bit blunt at times and a little distant.  Despite that, I think she is likable overall.  She definitely has some issues that she is still dealing with.  Those personal things come up a little in every episode, and add to the development of the character.  Dana Delany is great in the part.  Several people that she works with turn up regularly, and they are all decently developed, though not as much as she is.  The characters all work together fairly well and the rest of the cast is good.

The first season is only nine episodes.  The DVD set has 2 discs.  There are a few extras about the making of the show on the second disc along with some bloopers that are pretty funny.

Overall, I think this is a good, entertaining show and it is worth watching.  I've watched all the new episodes for the second season so far and I'm still really enjoying them.

I didn't watch as many Christmas movies this year as I had thought I would.  No particular reason...mostly I just didn't take the time.

I've also got embarrassingly behind in my reviews the last half of this year mostly because of work although I did watch a fair amount. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to stay on top of it more this year... starting with the pile of watched, but un-reviewed movies sitting on my desk beside me. Funny (and sad really) that I should start working on this pile this evening, New years Eve instead of whooping it up....

Happy New Year Marie!

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Arsenic and Old Lace
Cary Grant and a stellar cast romp through this classic farce based on Joseph Kesseling’s 1941 Broadway hit and breezily directed by Frank Capra.  Frazzled drama critic Mortimer Brewster (Grant) has two aunts (Josephine Hull and Jean Adair) who ply lonely geezers with poisoned libations, one sociopathic brother (Raymond Massey) who looks like Boris Karloff, one bonkers brother (John Alexander) who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, one impatient new bride (Priscilla Lane) - and only one night to make it turn out right.  In this circus’ center ring is Grant, twisting his face into a clown’s gallery of flabbergasted reactions and transforming his natural athletic grace into a rubber-legged comic ballet.  You’ll die laughing.

I actually got this one for my mom for Christmas.  I watched it with her right after Christmas.  It was the first time I'd seen the movie.  I really didn't know much about the movie before watching it other than that Cary Grant was in it.  I did read the back of the case before we watched it.  I loved the movie and think it was a very well done comedy.  Some of what happens does get a bit crazy and silly, but it works for the movie.  It is based on a play, and some of the cast members are from the original run of the play on Broadway.  The movie does have a more limited setting, with most of it taking place in the large main room of a house in Brooklyn.

The plot is very entertaining and a lot happens even though it is confined to one Halloween when Mortimer and Elaine have just gotten married.  They return to Brooklyn to share the news with their families, and that is when the craziness starts.  Mortimer's brother Teddy still lives with their aunts - who raised them and their other brother Jonathan.  Teddy is..well...not all there you could say.  He thinks he is President Teddy Roosevelt and he talks to everyone like they are people Roosevelt would have worked with.  He doesn't just walk up the stairs to his room.  He yells charge and runs up the stairs, into his room, slamming the door behind him.  He plays a bugle at random times, night and day, which has many of the neighbors aggravated.  The family understands Teddy's issues and deals with them.  Mortimer discovers a dead body in the house, and he believes that Teddy finally completely flipped and killed the man, thinking he was fighting in battle or something.  The aunts - Abby and Martha - claim responsibility for the body and casually mention the other twelve buried in the basement.  The aunts have Teddy dig the graves, telling him it is the canal in Panama.  They are very calm about the situation while Mortimer freaks out, worrying how to deal with the situation in the best way for his family.  Then Jonathan returns home for the first time in years with his surgeon and accomplice Dr. Einstein.  Jonathan is a wanted criminal who, thanks to plastic surgery, looks like Boris Karloff.  The two men are trying to avoid the police and find a place to stash their own dead body.

A lot happens throughout the movie without making things too complicated.  Most of the movie takes place after Mortimer discovers the dead body and shows how he deals with an increasingly crazy situation.  The movie is a lot funnier than I expected it to be.  The way Teddy acts, yelling and racing up the stairs, is very funny.  Mortimer's reactions to what is going on is hilarious at times.  The entire situation is just a bit funny to begin with, and the humor continues throughout the movie.  The movies really isn't predictable and I was left wondering how a few things would work out.  The movie is very fun and entertaining overall, in a sort of twisted way.

The characters are wonderful and very entertaining.  Abby and Martha are such sweet, nice old ladies, yet they have killed thirteen men with poisoned wine.  They think they are doing something helpful for the men and don't understand why Mortimer is upset.  Teddy is harmless, though it is understandable why some neighbors are upset.  Jonathan has his own issues, but they have made him very violent and dangerous.  Even though they have killed all those men, the aunts just don't seem violent or threatening like Jonathan.  He's creepy and scary.  He gets very upset whenever anyone says that he looks like Boris Karloff.  Dr. Einstein is rather creepy as well.  Mortimer is a wonderful character who is struggling to deal with everything.  I love Cary Grant in the part.  For the most part, I've just seen him in more serious movies, though most of them have had a bit of humor in them as well.  This is the funniest I've seen him and I think he handles all the craziness, and the slapstick moments, very well.  Elaine isn't around as much, so she doesn't receive the same attention.

I loved this movie and am glad that I finally saw it.  I think it has held up well and is still well worth watching.

I did get a review posted at Epinions if anyone would like to take a look.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)The Sherlock Holmes Collection
Only five episodes of the BBC's celebrated 1960s Sherlock Holmes  series survive. Coincidentally, all five star the inimitable Peter Cushing (Star Wars) as Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle's legendary detective, with Nigel Stock as Dr. Watson. And, fortunately for Holmes fans, they have finally been made available on DVD in North America courtesy of A&E.

Having already starred as Holmes in the famous Hammer film Hound of the Baskervilles, Cushing was uniquely suited to craft the definitive portrayal for these five captivating televised mysteries. For his first outing as the BBC's Holmes Cushing revisits the moors of Dartmoor for a feature-length version of Holmes' most well-known case, The Hound of the Baskervilles. Subsequent adventures pit his vaulted intellect against murderers, cannibals and Australian bushwhackers in faithful productions of The Sign of Four, The Blue Carbuncle, A Study in Scarlet and The Boscombe Valley Mystery.

I actually picked up this DVD set a while ago.  I'm not sure why it has taken me this long to watch the episodes.  They are based on some of the original stories, and while I still haven't read them, I have seen versions of a few of them, so I am more familiar with some of them now.  The episodes aren't that long, so there isn't a lot of time to fully build up the suspense and develop things.  I'm thinking that some things from the stories has been condensed, though I could be wrong about that.  The stories are all separate and can be watched in any order.  They are all interesting and entertaining.  The mystery in them is decent, though it could be a little stronger.  The characters are done well, especially Sherlock and Watson.  They have a good relationship.  I like Peter Cushing as Sherlock.  I also have his movie version of Hounds of the Baskervilles.  Unfortunately, there are only 5 of Cushing's episodes left.

This DVD is definitely worth checking out for fans of the character.  I think it has held up pretty well too.  Some things do look a bit dated, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

Regards Arsenic and Old Lace, you mention this is the first time you have seen Grant in such a comedic role, so you really should look up his other stuff because that's where he made his name. Bringing Up Baby and His Girl Friday are both very quick screwball comedies. Baby takes some keeping up with! The director was experimenting with just how fast he could do the dialogue. Both those films formed the basis for Arsenic.

Have you ever seen The Philadelphia Story with Grant? That's wonderful. And if you like this kind of stuff, look for his co-star Katherine Hepburn in Adam's Rib with Spencer Tracy.

I think my mom has His Girl Friday..I'll check.  I haven't seen Bringing up Baby..at least not that I remember.
I don't think I've seen The Philadelphia Story.  Or maybe I saw a little of it once but didn't watch all of it for some reason.  Hmmm.

I do remember seeing Adam's Rib years ago...I can't remember much of it though.  I've also seen Desk Set with Hepburn and Tracy.  I just watched part of it again the other day when I found it on HBO again.

I got my mom Father Goose for Christmas too...We sort of watched it...basically it was playing, but we didn't pay close attention the entire time.  That one has some funny stuff in it too, though not as screwy I don't think.  At least from what I noticed.  I'll have to watch it properly sometime.

I picked this set up not long after it came out when I found it on sale.  I have always liked Futurama and I still do.  The show is very fun and entertaining, though it may not appeal to some people.

The episodes in this set can stand alone fairly well, but they do build on things that have happened in previous episodes as well.  There really aren't any new surprises for any of the characters, though they do face some new adventures and situations.  All the episodes are funny, though the humor could be a little silly for some people.  The same main characters are back as well, with the same voice cast.  The characters are very well developed by this point.  They all have some sort of issue.  Fry and Leela have sort of being involved on and off for a while, and that does receive some more attention in these episodes.

My biggest problem with the set is the design of the case.  I hate these cases.  This one does hold the discs more securely so they aren't at least falling out if you look at it wrong, but with the way the discs are held, I worry about them getting scratched.  This is only a tiny bit better than the cases for The Simpsons.  At least the discs can be seen without having to look for a slit in the cardboard.

This is a good set for fans of the series.

I did post a review on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

I finally finished watching this DVD set recently.  This series is a great representation of Batman and the various villains.  I love how a few things from this - like Dr. Freeze's backstory and Harley Quinn - ended up being added into the comic books.  The episodes in this set stand alone fairly well, though there is some building on previous events.  I don't know how much has been pulled directly from the comic books or what might have been changed.  The show is very entertaining and definitely worth watching, especially for fans of Batman.  The show has held up really well and still deserves to be seen.

I did post a longer review on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Super 8
J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg join forces in this extraordinary tale of youth, mystery and adventure. Super 8 tells the story of six friends who witness a train wreck while making a Super 8 movie, only to learn that something unimaginable escaped during the crash. They soon discover that the only thing more mysterious than what it is, is what it wants. Experience the film that critics rave is "filled with unstoppable imagination and visual effects to spare. It will put a spell on you."*

*Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

This is the first time that I've watched this movie since I saw it in the theater last summer.  The movie is great and holds up well on repeat viewing, though I did notice the lends flare a bit more often.  That does get a bit annoying.  Otherwise, I still really enjoyed this movie.  The story is interesting and intriguing, and handled in a way that allows for the tension to build without showing everything.  The movie is very effective and the cast all handles their parts well.

I did post a review of this at Epinions after I first saw the movie.  I've also posted about it here before.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Wonder Woman: The Complete Second Season
What's WONDER WOMAN up to now? Flash forward 35 years from her stirring Season-One adventures defending America in World War II. Without missing a beat, Wonder Woman leaps from the big-band era to the disco decade, still miraculously young and still using wits, wiles and astonishing powers to fight evil.

Season Two (21 episodes following a feature-length season premiere) introduces Wonder Woman to a new America of nuclear power and computers. Teamed with STEVE TREVOR, son of the dashing major she worked with during World War II, she takes the name DIANA PRINCE - and takes on all kinds of danger from terrorists, mad geniuses, crooks and even a diabolical rock star while working for America's Inter-Agency Defense Command. Wonder Woman, we're proud you're on our side!

EPISODES:
1. The Return of Wonder Woman
2. Anschluss '77
3. The Man Who Could Move the World
4. The Bermuda Triangle Crisis
5. Knockout
6. The Pied Piper
7. The Queen and the Thief
8. I Do, I Do
9. The Man Who Made Volcanoes
10. Mind Stealers from Outer Space (Part 1)
11. Mind Stealers from Outer Space (Part 2)
12. The Deadly Toys
13. Light-Fingered Lady
14. Screaming Javelin
15. Diana's Disappearing Act
16. Death in Disguise
17. I.R.A.C. Is Missing
18. Flight to Oblivion
19. Seance of Terror
20. The Man Who Wouldn't Tell
21. The Girl from Islandia
22. The Murderous Missile

For the second season of Wonder Woman, changes were made, moving the time setting to modern times - or modern for when the show was being made.  Diana had to deal with problems in 1976 instead of fight Nazis during WWII.  The way the time change is handled with Steve Trevor isn't as good, with him just being made the son of the Steve she worked with during WWII, but the time change works overall for the series.  She starts out as kind of an assistant to Steve at the secret government agency he works for.  It really isn't that long before she is working as more of an agent and off on missions.  By the end of the season, she's dealing with the missions alone, only calling in to report to Steve.  I like that Diana is seen as more capable than she was in the first season.  Some of the stories get a little silly or even cheesy, but the show is still very entertaining.  I don't think any of the villains she has to deal with come from the comic books, but since I'm not familiar with that, I don't know for sure.  Lynda Carter is wonderful as Diana/Wonder Woman.  She is the character and she is the only real person to portray the character since other attempts at a series and the movie have fallen flat.  The animated movie that came out a few years ago is pretty good.  I still hope for a good live action Wonder Woman movie, but I'm not holding my breath.

I did get a longer review posted at Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

In the first chapter of the terrifying Alien saga, the crew of the spaceship Nostromo answers a distress signal from a desolate planet, only to discover a deadly life form that breeds within human hosts. Now the crew members must fight not only for their own survival, but for the survival of all humankind.

This is the first time that I've watched this movie.  I've heard a little about it over the years, but I just never saw it for some reason.  I'm still not sure why.  I'd been thinking about getting it for a while when I finally picked it up.  I went into watching this not knowing any more about the plot than what was on the back of the case - though I did know about one thing that would happen.  I think that was the best way.  The movie is very well done and has held up incredibly well.  Most of the effects were created in a more practical way - puppets or someone in a rubber suit - and that works great for the movie.  It allows for the tension to slowly build and makes things creepier and scarier overall than if the creature had been shown right away.  The characters work well, though most of them aren't that developed.  Ash is creepy as hell right from the start, even before everything is known about him.  Ripley is a great character and one of the best female characters in movies.  She deals fairly well with the situation she ends up in, and doesn't cower in a corner and wait to be saved.

The movie is wonderful and I'm glad I finally watched it.  Especially that I watched it before Prometheus.  I saw definite connections there...small, but they are there.  I would have missed all that if I hadn't watched this one.

Finally!  The Blu is pretty good compared to the DVD, but it's biggest improvement is in sound. I thought the Nostromo was coming through my house when it was landing. :o

Did you like Prometheus, Marie? I get why some don't, completely understand, but still, I bloody loved it. Alien is one of my favourites and also one I consider to be amongst the greatest ever made, so I purposefully put that right out of my mind when I saw the new film and I think I enjoyed it more because of that.

Yes I know...I'm behind with watching some movies.  But I did get to it. :)

I loved it too.  I know that some people weren't happy with it because there weren't as many connections to Alien as they had hoped for.  Maybe I was able to like it so much because I had only seen Alien once before and I didn't have a lot of...built up expectations.

I did post about Prometheus here in the other area...and I posted a review on Epinions too.

Too bad it doesn't make Alien Resurection better, it probably looks and sound better (I can't say without a doubt as I have to fight with the boredom watching it again) but the acting and direction is always awfull (nothing can't improve that sadly). The commentary was unpleasant to my ears as the french accent annoy the heck outta me

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)The Avengers
Marvel makes cinematic history as it unites the Super Hero team of a lifetime. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) assemble together for the first time ever in this epic, action-packed blockbuster - alongside Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Director Joss Whedon creates an unprecedented masterpiece that has become a global phenomenon. Packed with spectacular special effects, this must-own movie sensation boasts exclusive bonus features that transport you deep into the world of Marvel's The Avengers, including a never-before-seen Marvel short film, an interactive Second Screen Experience and Marvel's highly anticipated, first-ever Gag Reel!

I recently decided to watch this one again and I still enjoyed it just as much as I did when I first saw it in the theater.  It builds on things that have been established in the previous Marvel movies - Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America - especially Thor and Captain America.  It isn't completely necessary to have seen the previous movies, but I think it is best since certain things will make more sense that way.

Time is taken to set up the situation with Loki that causes everyone to come together.  Tony is fascinated with Bruce and spends time trying to provoke him into turning into a giant green rage monster.  Tony clashes a bit with Thor and Steve, which does cause some conflicts before they are finally able to work together.  I haven't read any of the Avenger comics, though I have seen the animated movies.  From what I remember, the team did have a few issues at first in the first animated movie as well.  The story works and makes for an entertaining movie.  It is full of snappy dialogue that is pure Joss Whedon - he did the screenplay as well as directed - that works perfectly.  Tony still gets some of the funniest lines and they totally fit in with his character.  The action is well done, though some people may think a few scenes drag on too long.

The Avengers is a great superhero movie and shows that Marvel's long term planning, started with the little seed in the after credits scene of Iron Man, worked perfectly.  Joss Whedon did a wonderful job and I'll definitely be seeing the sequel.  With how great this movie is, it did make me a little...sad that Whedon didn't get to make a Wonder Woman movie.  I still think he could have done an awesome job.  But, if he had done that, he probably wouldn't have been able to do this one.  So I'll take what we have.

I did post a longer review on Epinions after seeing the movie in the theater originally.  I think I posted about it here too.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Star Trek
The future begins in J. J. Abrams' smash hit STAR TREK, "a burst of pure filmmaking exhiliration and an irresistible invitation for fun." Scott Mantz, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD. When the Romulan Nero comes from the future to take revenge on the Federation, rivals Kirk and Spock must work together to stop him from destroying everything they know. On a thrilling journey filled with incredible action, the new recruits of the U.S.S. Enterprise will voyage through unimaginable danger in one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed movies of the year.

I watched some of the original series years ago and I saw some of the movies, but I never considered myself a fan.  I think part of it was because I did not deal well seeing Spock die in Wrath of Kahn when I was like 6.  That kind of turned me off of Star Trek for a long time, though I did end up watching a lot of Next Generation once it was on.  Anyway, I wasn't that interested when I first heard about a new Star Trek movie.  Then I started to see trailers and I changed my mind.  I'm glad I did.

This movie takes place when Kirk and Spock are still at Star Fleet Academy and they aren't liking each other much.  The movie is starting a new series, and it is an alternate time line from the original stuff because of Nero traveling back in time and altering history, first causing Kirk's dad to die when his ship is attacked, and later by destroying an important planet.  The main characters are all here and while it is clear who they are, they also have some differences.  Kirk is rather wild before joining Star Fleet, and even after at times.  I think the differences introduced are interesting and work for the movie.  I also like that the original Spock returns as well.

The Enterprise looks good - it looked awesome on the big screen.  The bridge area does seem a little smaller and it is very bright and white, which is a little different.  There is action in different scenes that is done well.  The special effects are done well.  There is way too much lens flare though.  It seems like it stands out to me more and more when I rewatch the movie.  Abrams keeps doing this in his movies, and he really needs to knock it off.  It is annoying and distracting.

Star Trek (2009) is a well done, very entertaining movie that definitely deserves to be seen, though some Trek fans may not like how some things are changed.

I did post a longer review at Epinions after I first saw the movie in the theater.

As many members here know, I recently had myself a Castle marathon, watching the entire series - including season 5 from my DVR - in 6 days.  I saw a little bit of an episode from the first season on TNT and decided I wanted to watch the series again.  I just decided to make just one post for this.

The series is very entertaining and fun even though it is focused on homicide investigations.  Richard Castle is a very entertaining character.  He does have a few issues, but he is really fun.  He has grown over the course of the series in ways that have made him better.  I love his oddball theories about what is going on in different investigations.  I really want him to be right about ninjas sometime.     I do like Kate too, but at times, it is harder to like her.  I get that she has issues, most of which are tied in some way to her mother's murder, but she still annoys me at times, usually in relation to Castle.  He isn't perfect either, but she is the one that usually gets me ticked off.  She has also grown and changed since the beginning of the series - and not just in changing hairstyles.  I like Ryan and Esposito too and I like the way all of them work together.  I have liked the ongoing story tied to the murder of Beckett's mother.  I think it makes sense that it still comes up because that influenced and impacted Kate so much.

I've done longer reviews on the first four season DVD sets at Epinions if anyone would like to take a look.  I think I have written about a few of the seasons here before as well.

Almost spot on with your Castle review there. But i just have to say two quick things about our DD (R&K) They both pisses me off sometimes. (He, when he gets all jealous and his childish ways) And here with all she does and behaves too. BUT they have changed alot and grown alot this season alone. To the much better. But the one character i'm getting a bit annoyed with not is Espo's. IMHO his character has changed for the worse trough season 5. Season 6 will be so fucking interesting and good in so many ways. (Wont spoil anything tho) But there is something thats not adding up with Espo. Only a few months left!

Rick isn't perfect either and he doesn't always make the best decisions.  There have been a few times when Esposito has been....displaying some sort of attitude or something in season 5.

I've been ready for season 6 to start since the end of the final episode of season 5.     I really enjoyed the show this season, though there were a few episodes I didn't like as much.  But there were a few episodes late in season 4 that I'm not that fond of either.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)Firefly: The Complete Series
Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.

Episodes:
1. Serenity - Part 1 & 2
2. The Train Job
3. Bushwacked
4. Shindig
5. Safe
6. Our Mrs. Reynolds
7. Jaynestown
8. Out of Gas
9. Ariel
10. War Stories
11. Trash
12. The Message
13. Heart of Gold
14. Objects in Space

After finishing my Castle marathon, I decided to watch Firefly again.  FOX treated this show horribly, bouncing it around the schedule or pre empting it, making it all but impossible for people to find it..and they aired the episodes out of order.  Idiots.  I'm still ticked at FOX for cancelling the show and I probably always will be.  People complain that there is nothing new or different on.  Well this was different and entertaining and very interesting..and FOX promptly cancelled it.

The show is set in the future - I can't remember the year now.  The resources on Earth have been used up and people live on various planets that have been terra formed to support human life.  Things are fairly good in the core planets where the Alliance is strong.  Things aren't as good in the outer planets where people struggle to survive.  The crew of Serenity take somewhat shady jobs at times and they have no love for the Alliance.  They end up in some..interesting situations thanks to the jobs they take.  The show does have some elements of a western which actually ends up working very well.  There is action along with some focus on setting up some things that unfortunately don't get properly dealt with because of the horrid way that FOX treated the show.  The characters use a lot of Chinese phrases are used by the characters at times, something else that is a bit different.  The show may be too different for some people.

The characters are very interesting and entertaining and there are some complex relationships between them.  I love Mal and think Nathan Fillion is great in the part.  Jayne seems to be the hired muscle who probably can't be trusted any further than he can be thrown.  For him, money is the big motivator and he doesn't have as much loyalty as some of the others.  Simon and River are very complicated, with some secrets surrounding them.  Kaylee is really sweet and a great mechanic.  Inara and Shepard Book do seem a little out of place on the ship, but they still manage to work.  Zoe fought with Mal in the war against the Alliance.  There is a strong bond between the two, which sometimes causes some tension with her husband Wash, the pilot.  I love Wash.

The series sadly only has 13 episodes.  I did like all of them, though I did get ....irked you could say with Mal in one of them.  Out of Gas is a wonderful episode, told in a somewhat different way.

Firefly is a wonderful series that should have lasted longer than it did.  It is definitely worth checking out for anyone who is a fan of good sci-fi or who likes Joss Whedon's stuff.

After watching Firefly, it was time to watch Serenity again.  This is one of my rare triple dips...I have 2 DVD versions and the Blu-ray.

The movie picks up a while after the end of the last episode.  Some time is taken at the beginning to recap some things, including showing how Simon got River out of the Alliance facility.  I liked how that was done, though that does contradict how in the series Simon said he made contact with someone to get her out and that he didn't know what had been done to her.  The Alliance hasn't forgotten about River and then send a deadly operative after her.  She shows more of the...effects of what has been done to her in a few scenes.  The plot is interesting and it does tie up things that weren't fully dealt with before the show was prematurely cancelled.  There are two things that happen that I didn't like, though the second is worse.  I'm still a bit ticked at Whedon for that.

The same main characters return, though some of them don't get as much to do unfortunately.  The cast is great in their parts. I really liked seeing the characters again.  There are some humorous moments again, mostly from things some characters do or say.  There is action and some violence in the movie.  There is a decent conclusion, though I would have preferred to have more seasons of the show.  But the movie is better than nothing.

Serenity is a wonderfully entertaining movie that helps to tie up things from Firefly.  The movie definitely deserves to be seen.

I did post a return on Epinions after I originally saw the movie in the theater.

Yeah, he has (Espo) specially towards Rick. Being just plain rude for no reason it seems like. (And since we know AM does anything for a reason) i think\hope we might see some development with Espo. We dont know too much about him yet.
And for the episodes that you might like\dislike. I have a few of them in every season. But its fewer this season around. And i think season have the potential to be epic!

Land of the Lost

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Land of the Lost
Comedic genius Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, who gets more than he bargained for when his expedition takes a wrong turn into the Land of the Lost. Now, Marshall, his crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist named Will (Danny McBride), have no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in a world full of marauding dinosaurs, fantastic creatures and laugh-out-loud comedy!

I don't remember ever seeing the original show.  I thought the trailers looked interesting when the movie was coming out.  I finally saw the movie when I found it on HBO.  I did like the movie and I eventually added it to my collection when I found the Blu-ray fairly cheap.

Will Ferrell can be hit or miss with a lot of people.  I have mostly enjoyed his movies that I've seen - though I haven't seen all of them.  His character is kind of obnoxious at times and he could turn off some viewers.  People that don't like Ferrell may not want to see this one.  From what I have read about the original show, a lot of things were changed and that could bother people who liked the original show.  It does seem like there were at least a few plans for a potential sequel based on the last scene, but since the movie ended up not doing that well, nothing happened with the sequel.

The plot is a little silly, but I think it works for the movie.  Nothing that happens is believable, something else that could be an issue for some people.  I do think the movie ends up being fun and entertaining overall.  It is interesting and it does have elements of an adventure movie.  The humor doesn't always work for me.  It does turn to the gross and crude at times, and that is what I didn't find as funny.

Overall Land of the Lost is entertaining, though it won't appeal to everyone.

I did post a longer review at Epinions after I first saw the movie.

Identity Thief

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Identity Thief
Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) and Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) lead an all-star cast in this hilarious blockbuster hit. Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Orlando. There's only one glitch: she's financing her shopping sprees with an ID stolen from Sandy Patterson (Bateman), an accounts rep who lives halfway across the U.S. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Patterson is forced to extreme measures to clear his name. From the director of Horrible Bosses and the producer of Ted, critics are calling Identity Thief "smart, funny and surprisingly touching" – Rafer Guzman, Newsday.

I really like Melissa McCarthy on Mike & Molly and I thought she was hilarious the first time she hosted Saturday Night Live.  She was pretty good the second time she hosted too.  I was interested in seeing Identity Thief when I saw the previews.  I wasn't able to get to see it while it was in the theater because of work.  I ended up picking up the Blu-ray after it was out.  I liked the movie overall, though it does have some problems.

The general idea of the plot is interesting, though Sandy deciding to go track her down himself isn't believable.  It also isn't believable that just finding the thief would clear up all of Sandy's problems caused by the identity theft.  Sandy and Diana end up in a lot of dangerous and even odd situations, one of which includes snakes.  I so did not need to see that.  There is a decent amount of humor, though I didn't think everything done for humor worked.  The Heat is funner in my opinion.  Certain things were predictable.  Bateman and McCarthy were good in the their parts and worked well together.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/DVDLogo.png)The Hangover
They planned a Vegas bachelor party that they would never forget. Now they really need to remember what exactly went down! A baby? A tiger? Why is one of them missing a tooth? And most of all, where is the groom?! What the guys did while partying can't compare to what they must do sober in an outrageous caper that has them piecing together all their bad decisions from the night before – one hazy clue at a time. Director Todd Phillips (Old School) and an all-aces comedy cast tie one on...big time!

So I decided to watch The Hangover again recently.  I'm not completely sure why...I guess I just decided I was in the mood for it again.  The movie is funny, but it isn't for everyone.  Some people will be turned off by the crude humor and a few things could be offensive.  The humor does work and I still found the movie funny.  It is entertaining and worth checking out.  I still love the song that Stu makes up.. very funny.  The characters are interesting and unique and the cast works well together.

The Hangover is a funny, entertaining comedy that is worth checking out, though it isn't for everyone.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)The Hangover Part II
Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

After watching The Hangover again, I decided to follow up with The Hangover Part II.  There is very, very little different from the first movie, which is a shame.  Even the structure of the story is the same - starting by showing Phil making a call about how they screwed up, and then the movie jumps back in time to show how they got to that point.  This time Stu is getting married.  It is nice to see him with a nicer woman than that shrew he was involved with in the first movie.  Doug manages to escape the night, but once again, Phil, Stu, and Alan wake up with no idea what happened and they have lost Stu's soon to be brother-in-law Teddy.  Chow or Chan...I can't even remember his name at the moment, is back and ends up with more to do.  That is unfortunate because he is annoying.  The longer he is around, the more annoying he gets.  It does seem like there was an attempt to make this movie even wilder and more shocking than the first.  The face tattoo is the least of what happens to Stu.  He really should just lock himself in a closet or something and not leave his house.  The returning characters are pretty much the same without any development.  Alan is a bit jealous of Teddy being around, but that is it.

The Hangover Part II is too much like the first movie.  It does have some funny moments, but the fact that the movie is basically identically except for a few small changes makes it mostly pointless.

I barely gave this 3 stars when I originally reviewed it.

Prepare for non-stop and pulse-pounding excitement in this "electrifying thrill ride" (Jeff Craig, Sixty Second Preview). Colin Farrell stars as Douglas Quaid, a factory worker who visits Rekall, a revolutionary company that can turn his superspy fantasies into real memories. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, the line between fantasy and reality blur as Quaid becomes a man on the run and the fate of his world hangs in the balance. Co-starring Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston, TOTAL RECALL is bustling with mind-blowing action sequences and spectacular visual effects, the ultimate high-energy thrill-ride!

I first saw this one in the theater when it first came out last year.  I enjoyed the movie and thought it was good, though I know that some people didn't feel the same way.  The plot is similar to the first movie, though some things have been changed.  I didn't mind the changes.  The action scenes are done well and the plot is interesting.  The characters are basically the same from what I remember of the original, though at least one of them ends up with more to do.  The cast is good and handles their parts well.  The movie is worth checking out if people will give it a chance.

After Westley returns to rescue Buttercup, the two begin an epic adventure filled with fencing, fighting, giants, monsters, miracles, true love and hilarity! Featuring an all-star cast, including Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest, The Princess Bride is an almost inconceivable delight from Oscar® Nominee Rob Reiner* and Oscar®-Winning screenwriter William Goldman**.

*1992, Best Picture (with David Brown and Andrew Scheinman, Producers), A Few Good Men.
**1976, Adapted Screenplay, All the President's Men; 1969, Original Screenplay, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

I've lost track of how many times I've watched this movie over the years.  I still enjoy it every time I watch it.  It is a fun, entertaining adventure type movie with humor that is told in a unique way.  It is really well done and has held up well.  I do think of the story as a fairytale and it does have a sort of magical feel to it.  There is an interesting group of characters and the cast is wonderful in their parts, even the small parts like Miracle Max and his wife Valerie.

I had the movie on DVD and I picked up the Blu-ray last year when I found it cheap.  There are several extras on it, but I haven't checked them out yet.

The Princess Bride is a wonderful movie that is definitely worth checking out.

Marie, I fully agree.  The Princess Bride (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_Bride) is a great film.  If you haven't had a chance check out the book by William Goldman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Goldman) ( as an abridgment of The Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S._Morgenstern)).

Like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy) you find yourself laughing out loud throughout.  Though "The Princess Bride" film is a much better interruption of the book than THHGTTG.

I haven't read the book..I think I did see it somewhere once and almost got it.  Not sure why I didn't now.

I love that line...especially later in the movie when he finally found who he was looking at and he just kept going..  I also like Inigo Montoya in general.

It was a double dip for me too.  It looks gorgeous on Blu.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)The Mummy
Deep in the Egyptian desert, a handful of people searching for a long-lost treasure have just unearthed a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror. Combining the thrills of a rousing adventure with the suspense of the legendary 1932 horror classic, The Mummy is a true nonstop action epic, filled with dazzling visual effects, top-notch talent and superb storytelling.

I was interested in seeing this one back when I first saw trailers for it before it was released.  I didn't see it until I rented it - I think it was on VHS - and the movie was one of the first I got when I got a DVD player.  Unfortunately I didn't realize there was a full screen version and a widescreen version...and I ended up with the full screen.   >:(  It drove me nuts when I would watch the movie and Evie or Jonathan were cut out of the scene.  I eventually got a widescreen version for like $3.  I recently got the collection on Blu-ray.

I still really enjoy this movie.  It is a fun, adventure type of movie to me.  It did freak me out just a bit when I watched it for the first time - I watched it alone, late at night.  Now I just see it as a fun, entertaining, adventure movie.  The movie looks really good on Blu.  There is a good mix of adventure, action, and humor in the movie.  I like Rick, Evie, and Jonathan - Jonathan still makes me laugh.

I think the movie and the effects have held up well and it is still worth watching.

I did one of my first reviews at Epinions on this movie - which I later went back and updated - if anyone would like to take a look.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)The Mummy Returns
An ancient legacy of terror is unleashed when the accursed mummy Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) is resurrected – along with a force even more powerful: the Scorpion King (The Rock). Now, as the fate of all mankind hangs in the balance, Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife, Evie (Rachel Weisz), embark on a daring, desperate race to save their son – and the world – from unspeakable evil. The Mummy Returns is supercharged with pulse-pounding action and spectacular special effects that'll blow you away.

I first saw this movie in the theater on opening day for it - this was actually the first movie I went to see on opening day.  I really like Rick and Evie, so I was happy to see them in another movie.  I like Jonathan too and I loved some of his interactions with Alex.  The movie is another fun, adventure type movie and it connects well to the first movie.  I've seen that some people have said that it contradicted the first movie when Evie was the reincarnation of Anuk-sun-amon.  The first movie never said she was...Imohtep was just going to scarfice Evie for the ritual to bring back Anuk-sun-amon - I may have spelled that wrong, sorry - and then her spirit would take over Evie's body.  I still really enjoy this movie when I watch it.

This was another of my first reviews at Epinions that I went back and updated later.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Brendan Fraser and Jet Li star in the action-packed adventure The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor! When a 2,000-year-old curse is broken, a ruthless dragon emperor (Li) comes back to life with a diabolical plan to enslave the world. Mankind's only hope against him and his legions of undead warriors lies with the courageous O'Connell family, who chase him from the dangerous catacombs of China, to the icy Himalayas and beyond. Featuring intense battle sequences, breathtaking visual effects and extraordinary creatures, it's a thrilling journey that Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times calls "the best in the series!"

I first saw this one in the theater on opening day.  I did like seeing Rick and Evie again, but something was missing from this one.  The characters seem a little off, which is probably at least partially because Maria Bello took over the part of Evie.  She's fine in the part, but she isn't the same Evie and that changes the dynamics of the characters.  I think it would have worked a bit better if they hadn't jumped so far ahead.  Rick and Evie just don't look old enough to be Alex's parents now.  I don't like that Alex acts like he can't stand his parents anymore, especially Rick.  That was just an excuse to add more tension or drama or something that wasn't needed.  The family was really strong and close in the second movie so it doesn't seem right that things would be so different.  It does add something somewhat new to be in China, but the new bad guy isn't that different from Imhotep.  He's just driven by a need to rule the world instead of wanting to bring back the love of his life.  The movie is fun and entertaining overall, but I didn't like it as well as the first two movies.

I did get a longer review posted on Epinions after I first saw the movie.

Prepare for adventure when "the most original film in years" (Bryan Erdy, CBS-TV) that thrilled audiences of all ages drops on Blu-ray! From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in Disney's Wreck-It Ralph.

For decades, Ralph has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends including feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz. Then, when an evil enemy threatens their world, Ralph realizes he holds the fate of the entire arcade in his massive hands.

Featuring an all-star voice cast and breakthrough bonus features that take you even deeper into the world of video games, Disney's Wreck-It Ralph has something for every player. Bring home the ultimate reward on Disney Blu-ray!

I went to see this movie back in November and really enjoyed.  I liked it just as much watching it a second time on Blu-ray.  It is a fun, entertaining movie that is good for families, though younger children won't have any idea who some of the game characters are.  Adults may like that part of the movie more.  The movie has an interesting plot, with the characters of video games being alive and the serge protectors in the arcade being like a train station. The animation is very well done and it really looks like the graphics from the older games when Ralph's game is shown at first.  Even once things change to the better animation, the characters from that game move a little differently.

The movie is really fun and entertaining and it definitely deserves to be seen.  It is one of the more original ones I've seen in recent years.

As some of you many have noticed recently from my signature, I watched my Harry Potter movies again.  I still love the movies when I watch them even though I do have some issues with things in later movies.

This one is a very good adaptation, and it takes the time to properly set things up.  I know that some people thought the movie was too long and didn't cut out enough, but I don't agree with that at all.  I love discovering the magical world along with Harry.  The cast is great and they all fit their characters so well.  Yes the child actors weren't the strongest at times, but they get better in later movies.  Some of the effects late in the movie don't look as good but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment.  There is a sense of wonder in the movie - and the next few - that is missing from the last few movies.

Go on the set to see firsthand how each of the directors brought unique strengths to the series. This one is another good adaptation of the book and the important explanations aren't cut out.  I sometimes wonder how some of the other movies would have turned out if Christopher Columbus had directed them.  The story for this one is entertaining, and it starts the trend of the movies getting a little darker with each other as Harry and his friends get older.  I could have done without the snakes and the basalisk that looks like a giant snake to me.  That think still freaks me out a bit.  Hagrid's giant spider doesn't bother me a bit.  Professor Lockhart is an idiot and Kenneth Branagh is great in the part.

Every time I watch the first two movies, I miss Richard Harris as Dumbledore.  Michael Gambon did fine when he took over, but he wasn't the same and Harris was absolutely perfect for the part.  He looks in these movies the way I imagined Dumbledore when I read the books.

This is the first movie to have a different director and it is the first to start making odd changes and leaving out important explanations.  I still think it is stupid that Hagrid's hut and the Whomping Willow are moved and that long bridge is added along with that clock tower thing.  There isn't a proper explanation for what animagi are and the fact that they have to register with the Ministry of Magic.  A few things about Harry's dad and his friends are left out, including that they wrote the Maurader's Map.  Those little things would have just taken a few minutes to explain.  This is the smallest of the explanations left out, but it is the beginning of a bad trend with the movie.

This movie does the best job at capturing the magical aspects of Hogwarts, with ghosts floating about all over and the paintings always moving.  I absolutely low how the paintings are done in this movie.  The rest of the movies barely show the paintings moving.  The sense of wonder and magic is out in full force in this one.

This one had a lot of stuff cut out due to time concerns.  I don't mind that SPEW didn't get all the attention it did in the books, but I still think it should have come out that there are house elves at Hogwarts and that Doby was working there.  I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see Arthur and his sons show up to pick up Harry...and how Dudley gobbled up some of Fred and George's ten ton tongue toffee - I think that was what it was called.  That would have been fun to see.  Several things gets a little condensed and for the most part that doesn't bother me.  Dumbledore does seem a little off early in the movie, especially with how he reacts to Harry's name coming out of the cup.  Harry's fight with his dragon goes on too long, taking up time that could have been used for some important explanations.  It would have been nice if it had been shown at least once how Hermione and then Ron - after he was over his snit - helped Harry learn new spells that he might need for the tournament.  That would have helped to back up just how powerful a witch Hermione is..and that it isn't just all book smarts.  The paintings aren't as impressive as they were in the last movie. They never seem to move which is disappointing.  This one gets a lot darker later in the movie when Voldemort returns.  This was the first of these movies to be rated PG-13.  Voldemort is suitably creepy when he finally shows up.  There are still some good humorous moments too, like when Ron has to dance with McGonagall or when he is wearing his dress robes.  That is a ...unique look.

Even with the few issues I have with the movie, I still enjoy it and think it should be seen.  It is definitely best to watch these movies in order.

I did post a review at Epinions after I first saw the movie - this was the first of the Potter movies that I saw on opening day.

Deeper. Bolder. Darker. As the eight Harry Potter films trace Harry's journey from innocent schoolboy to selfless hero, the series undergoes a transformation. Evolution – packed with exclusive content only available here – takes you along for every exciting step of the 10-year filmmaking odyssey.

This is my least favorite of the movies - it is my least favorite book too - but I still liked the movie overall.  Entirely too much was cut out just so the director could make this movie shorter than any of the others.  I read that even before the movie came out originally, which caused me concern...which I think was justified.  Important explanations are butchered or left out completely - unfortunately not the last time Yates would do this.  It wouldn't have taken that long to include the explanations, but they got cut.  Some of what was cut out from this one does end up being referenced in the final 2 movies, so people who haven't read the books will be clueless about some of those things.  The fact that Harry wanted to be an auror comes up in this book, but it is left out of the movie..only to be brought up in the next movie briefly out of nowhere.  Umbridge is a horrible, nasty character, though she doesn't seem as nasty as she did in the book.  The music is changed a bit at times and what I think of as the main Potter theme is mostly missing.  Some of the music that is used is  bit out of place, sounding too upbeat or happy for what is happening on screen in those parts.  Snape's memory is bungled, being so short, it is almost like it wasn't even used.  The whole point of what that memory was Snape's worst memory isn't even shown.  I still don't think Yates was a good pick to direct these movies.

I did post a longer review at Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

I have several issues with this movie, though I do still like it overall.  Stupid, pointless stuff is added in while once again important things from the book are left out.  The set up for the final movies is screwed up big time, with it being presented like Dumbledore had no clue that Voldemort had made horcruxes before they checked out Slughorn's memory.  That makes Dumbledore look stupid, which he wasn't.  I don't mind that an attack on a muggle bridge is added at the beginning of the movie since that helps to show that Voldemort's followers are openly going after muggles.  In the book, there are on going attacks that are mentioned every so often.  That doesn't happen at all.  Instead an attack on the Burrow is added that is a complete waste of time and just stupid.  It is more clear in the movie what Draco is up to than it was in the book.  Memories about Voldemort play a big part in the book, showing how he starts to become Voldemort and giving Harry more information for what will be coming. Unfortunately they aren't handled right in the movie.  The ones that are in the movie are done well..the problem is that most of them are cut out.  The ones that are cut out show things that would be helpful for Harry and help to show a fuller picture of Voldemort.  All of the memories were in an early draft of the script, but Yates said they were unimportant - again in an interview.  Stuff is added early in the movie with Harry in a normal coffee shop, reading the Daily Prophet in front of muggles.  That is just wrong.

I am glad that the final book was split into 2 movies.  There was just too much to cover and tie up for one movie...especially if Yates would have been able to hack it to bits again.  There are changes again, though most of them don't bother me too much.  Some things get a little condensed, which isn't too annoying.  There is a stupid scene added in, again by Yates decision because he wanted to show the sexual tension - that is what he said - between Harry and Hermione.  Ack.  There was none between them.  They were each in love with someone else and were just friends and for Yates to imply something else is messed up.  I guess we are lucky he didn't have them make out.  some of the characters aren't used enough again, but that happened in the book too.  They are still clueless about what most of the horcruxes could be..though they sort of stumble into figuring out one.  Harry has his piece of a magical mirror that Sirus gave him back in the fifth book...which has been left out of the movies completely, yet Harry is now pulling it out looking in it..and it is kind of important later on.  This movie refers back to things that were left out of various books, so it really requires people have read the books to be able to fully follow and understand certain things.  People that have only seen the movies are going to be lost on some things thanks to how things were cut in previous movies.  Most of the issues in this one go back to things that weren't handled properly in previous movies.

I do enjoy the movie overall..I just think it would have been even better if a few things were handled better.

(http://dvdalistic.com/dvdcol/Blu-rayLogo.png)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

This movie ties up everything fairly well and it is a good adaptation overall.  The main differences come from things that weren't properly set up in previous movies.  I still don't really like how Harry ends up being able to find the horcruxes, but it does work for the movie.  It just seems like it was an attempt to cover up the fact that they screwed up the set up big time as far as the horcruxes were concerned.  I really didn't need to see the snake as often as it was around, but I knew that would happen.  I was really worried about how Snape's memories would be handled after memories have been screwed up in previous movies.  Thankfully they were done wonderfully.  Things were condensed a bit, and one very moving thing was added in that made the memory part stronger overall.  It makes Snape more likable overall and shows that he is capable of feelings.  I still love how Helena Bonham Carter plays it when Hermione is supposed to be Bellatrix.  She looks the same but also different at the same time.  The crazed look in her eyes is gone, replaced by the look of someone who is uncertain about what they are doing.  It's wonderful.

It really is amazing that all these movies were able to be made with the same main cast - except for Richard Harris who unfortunately passed away.  There are a few continuity issues here and there that come from the changes the different directors did.  The cast is wonderful, especially Alan Rickman.  His part is smaller, but it is so important and he really shines in his few scenes.  There are a few things that I would have liked to see from the book, though they were more minor things.

I totally agree with you, that there was no such tension at all. But since you say "stupid", you are not referring to the dance scene? Can you remind me which scene you are referring to?

IMO the dance scene is a wonderful addition and gives a very calm and quiet moment. If this is the scene you meant, then I don't think it is stupid, it is merely Yates being stupid as he apparently no idea what he did there :slaphead: For me the scene does not carry any tensions, it is merely showing two scared people holding each other.

I did mean the dance scene.  It just seems a bit out of place to me..and especially after I heard Yates's boneheaded explanation for it.  For me, I guess it is just another example of Yates cramming in something not from the books for his own reasons.  Every time I read or hear him talk about the movies and why he did stuff just proves more and more how he had no clue about the source material and he didn't care about it.  Sexual tension between Harry and Hermione...it is so messed up to even suggest that.

I agree stupid explanation. I still like the scene for what I saw in it. I am not even sure if he added, maybe the writers did and Yates just gave his stupid explanation of what he thought it meant...

I believe in the interview I read, Yates said he added that part.
