Meangirls
-
Meangirls? :hmmmm: oh you must be talking about Mean Girls! :tease:
That one is in the box I am expecting... but I am pretty sure it will be here in time for this weekend.
-
In all serious, Mean Girls is a cracking film. Clueless for the 00's.
Good Will Hunting
Catch Me if You Can
Memento (this first)
Coach Carter
-
All those are in that package that is on the way. Hopefully they will get here before Monday.
-
I just checked the tracking... and it is in town now! It will be here later today! :yahoo:
-
I loved Mean Girls when I last watched it. That's where I discovered Rachel McAdams and I've liked ever since!
Of course it also stars pre-excentric LiLo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0517820/) too.. still good looking at that time!
-
I will have to be sure to check it out this weekend.

I loved Mean Girls when I last watched it. That's where I discovered Rachel McAdams and I've liked ever since!
Before that she was in the first season of Slings & Arrows, the best Canadian TV show that I know. Sadly, she left the show after becoming famous with Mean Girls in the US.
-
I just checked profiler. Mean Girls will be the first thing I have with Rachel McAdams.
-
The Lake House
and if you have time, the Star Wars Trilogy. Or you could make a separate mini-marathon out of this.
-
I am up in the air about what to do with Star Wars... to watch at least some here... or save it for a marathon of it's own. I keep going back and forth on it. :P

My Thoughts:
I made a promise... and I new I was going to keep that promise. But I thought I would shock you all and let it be the first one I watch out of all of the ones sent to me! (plus it gets it out of the way!)
Ok... what to say about the movie. First let me say... wow.. this one has a lot of music in it. Made it impossible to just ignore the music like I can normally do. Which kinda sucked for me... because the movie can't change how I feel about music. It is what it is... and there is nothing I can do about that. Now the story on the other had I enjoyed very much. Such a detailed look at his life... both the good and the bad. Instead of starting the movie from the beginning and going in chronological order (which I normally prefer) this movie uses flashbacks. I normally don't care for flashbacks because they can easily make a story confusing. But in the case of Ray the flashbacks works extremely well and I think makes a more powerful movie. I've only known Jamie Foxx as a comedian... but I must say he impressed me here. I thought he did a wonderful job in the title role.
I find it hard to believe that I am saying this... but this is one musical I am glad I have in my collection... and yes... I can see myself watching it again. So there you go... a surprise for both of us. A surprise for you all that I actually watched a musical... and it being the first one in my marathon. As well as a surprise for me as I enjoyed it much more then I thought I would.

Its a miracle! We never have to hear that Pete doesn't like musicals again because...he does! :tease:
I knew I wanted to send you a musical themed DVD because of your promise to watch it.
I spent a lot of time debating what to send you because, although my initial thought was to pull your leg, I really did want to send you something that you would enjoy too...mission accomplished!
-
Jamie Foxx was really good in that role. He did get, a well deserved IMO, Oscar for that performance after all! And he did everything himself, singing and all (maybe not the piano performance - I'm not sure). And Ray Charles is such an icon of soul music. I'm glad they gave him such an homage with such a well done biography.
Also glad you enjoyed it Pete! Next up: Walk the Line (Johnny Cash)!
Just kidding! Although Joaquin Phoenix does a damn good job in it too. And Reese Witherspoon looks gorgeous as a brunette!

 I wouldn't use such a blanket statement as I like musicals. Lets say I could like them if the story behind it is very good... like in the case of Ray.
But yes... mission accomplished... I did enjoy it... despite the music! :P

My Thoughts:
Being such a big Sandra Bullock fan I been wanting to see this one... especially since she won the Oscar for her role in it. And I must say... it is an Oscar she deserved. She was definitely excellent in this film. I also thought that Quinton Aaron did a fantastic job as well. I enjoyed every minute of this movie. The story is very well told. And like the above movie is one that is based off a true story. I am so happy this has been added to my collection... thanks to the help of a kind friend. If you haven't checked this one out yet... My Thoughts:
I remember seeing the case to this movie in Walmart when it first came out. I had it in my hand trying to decide if I wanted to try it or another choice. I went with the other choice then... even though I have been very curious about watching this movie. But for some reason I never got around to getting it. Thankfully yesterday it was in the package that was sent to me... and I finally got to see it. While not the best thriller I have seen... it is definitely good. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has a good story... and I really liked Leelee Sobieski in this movie. Thought she did a great job.

This one is a very good... though a little weird story. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Though I must admit to being off my game because for some reason I just didn't see that ending coming. And looking back it is a pretty obvious one. I think Sandra Bullock did a great job... and Keanu Reeves to be honest I don't think this type of movie is his strong point... but I still think he did a good job. This is one I can feel comfortable recommending.

Before this movie was sent to me I never even heard of it before. But as soon as I saw the trailer I couldn't wait to check it out as it looked really funny! When I went to watch it I was afraid that I hyped myself up too much for it. Luckily that wasn't the case... I enjoyed every minute of it. It has a lot of laugh out loud moments. I said in the last review that I didn't really think this type of movie really isn't Keanu Reeves strong point. But after seeing him in this movie I may have to rethink that stance as I thought he did great in this one. Though the entire cast was great here. This is one movie that I would highly recommend to any fan of Romantic Comedies.

Amid a frenzy of activist marches, Klan terror, media clamor and brutal riots, an unseasoned but idealistic young attorney mounts a stirring courtroom battle for justice. The superb ensemble also includes Brenda Fricker, Oliver Platt, Charles S. Dutton, Ashley Judd, Patrick McGoohan, Chris Cooper and both Donald and Kiefer Sutherland. These and other talents make A Time to Kill "one of the year's most powerful films" (Jeffrey Lyons, Sneak Previews/ABC World News Now).

My Thoughts:
While I don't have many I do like courtroom dramas. This is one I enjoyed quite a bit. This movie has more stars then you can shake a stick at. Many great names involved here. I found this to be a pretty powerful story that was more then easy to get involved in. I don't know if this will make any sense... but this movie is so dramatic that I felt I could have used a little break from the drama. Of course comedy wouldn't fit in such a movie... but I felt it needed a little something to lighten the mood a bit. Don't get me wrong... it isn't bad the way it is... just a lot to take in. I found Sandra Bullock to be adorable in this movie... and I hated seeing what they did to her character. But over all... definitely a movie worth watching. I would recommend it.

I've seen this several times now and I think you might find the drama exhausting because it's so over the top. It's designed to make you indignant and angry, so you cheer on the good guys! Some of the stuff that happens is absolutely outrageous, it isn't remotely realistic. I like it though, because of the cast.
Other John Grisham based legal thrillers worth a look are The Firm with Tom Cruise, Rainmaker with Matt Damon and Runaway Jury with John Cusack, but I think the best one is The Pelican Brief.
Overall, the old, non-Grisham ones are the best! 12 Angry Men, The Verdict (recently reviewed for my "V" entry) and Anatomy Of A Murder with James Stewart.

'Memento Mori' - original short story
My Thoughts:
Well... two movies in a row to make your head swim a bit. I think I will have to watch something I won't have to think about much next! Once again it is one I enjoyed quite a bit... but it is definitely one you really need to give your full attention to. I don't know how real such brain damage is... but I couldn't imagine trying to get through life with such an illness. Definitely worth checking out if you never seen it.

My version of it can play the film in order, but I've never try it (I just think it would became a not so special movie since what makes this movie good is its structure).
-
I agree with you there... I wouldn't imagine wanting to watch it in any other order.
-
The structure is very important with this one. With the ....story elements that are presented, if things are in the so called correct order - running forward I mean - then the audience will lose a lot of the surprise since they'll know certain things very early.
-
While it could be a gimmick... "ooh lets tell it backwards. that's cooooool." ...actually, it ties the audience in with the character. You have to make mental notes of what you saw, so you can remember what will happen to Leonard. Therefore you are like Leonard. It's nuts! Brilliant, but nuts.

Does someone had watch the film in chronological order? I'm sure not the only one who have this version

That's the one I have. But I never saw the point of watching it in order. A big part of why I enjoyed the movie is the way the story was presented.

I own that version as well and I have seen it chronologically once. I thought it would help to solve a few questions I had, but interestingly, it didn't really
