Title: The end is nigh!
Post by: DJ Doena on April 22, 2008, 07:54:12 PM
I am well within the eight season of SG-1 (http://www.dvdcollectorsonline.com/index.php/topic,761.0.html).

I am most likely through with it by the end of next week.

Any wishes for the next one?

(Please keep in mind that I am posting on more than one forum and thus the vote results might not determine the next marathon)

I thought you'd only recently done Buffy? erm... maybe I should reword that! You know what I mean...

That was last year! And I've only watched it once.

And have you seen SMG recently? We call this a "Strich in der Landschaft" (literally "line/streak in the landscape", i.e. very thin person). Don't know if I even wanted "to do" her, I could hurt myself on her bones!

You say "thin", I say "light and flexible"...

I have not yet decided what the next marathon will be, but it will be more of a nordic walking than a marathon. I've decided to reduce the watching of DVDs on working days in favour of reducing my "unread books stack".

Excluding my own vote the results stand thus:

I'm curious about these.

..."unread books stack".

I'm curious about these.

I am reading mostly "light literature". Currently I am reading "Buffy - The Watcher's Guide" (Vol. 1-3). Then I will read  "Slayer Slang" (also Buffy).

After that I will continue with the fourth book in a series of four: Jasper Fforde, "Something Rotten" (the first book was "The Eyre Affair"). Who liked the "Hitchhiker's Guide" should try out these.

Then I have several novels to the TV shows "Battlestar Galactica" (new) and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".

From the back cover of "The Eyre Affair":

Quote
There is another 1985, where London's criminal gangs have moved into the lucrative literary market, and Thursday Next is on the trail of the new crime wave's Mr Big.

Acheron Hades has been kidnapping characters from works of fiction and holding them to ransom. Jane Eyre is gone. Missing.

Thursday sets out to find a way into the book to repair the damage. But solving crimes against literature isn't easy when you also have to find time to halt the Crimean War, persuade the man you love to marry you, and figure out who really wrote Shakespeare's plays.

Perhaps today just isn't going to be Thursday's day. Join her on a truly breathtaking adventure, and find out for yourself. Fiction will never be the same again...

The advantage is that "The Eyre Affair" can stand on its own, you don't have to continue reading. But if you want to, then there is "Lost in a Good Book", "The Well of Lost Plots" and "Something Rotten".

You would love our local second hand stores in Buffalo. We have dozens of them (including book stores) which specialize in every genre you can imagine. I love roaming these stores and buying books and other "stuff". The best part is hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are 3/$1. Of course that's why I have no more room in my house!

I will finished my DS9 marathon within the next two weeks.

As you might have noticed it took me longer than previous marathons (I started on Sep 20th, 2008) to finish this one. This was due to the fact that I didn't want to watch the same show every weekend. I wanted to watch other stuff like House.

So I decided not to do a single series marathon again. When I start my next marathon I will make it a mix of shows so that I can watch the show for which I am in the mood for.

I only just noticed the hilarious misspelling of this topic! ;)

I find your marathons interesting and I hope you'll keep the "one series: one topic" set-up regardless of how often you contribute to them because it makes them very readable.

I even googled it (http://www.google.de/search?source=ig&hl=de&rlz=&=&q=%22the+end+is+neigh%22&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=lr%3D) back then and got hits

That I will do.

:o  :hysterical: I particularly like the one where someone questions if they spelt it right!

Stay tuned for my next marathons:

Battlestar Galactica: From 1978 to 2009.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Ready your Spike!

Farscape: A rollercoaster ride through twisted science fiction stories.

The end not even seen on the horizon, but I think when I've finished BSG or Farscape (whichever comes first), I will start a "short-lived Sci-Fi series" marathon, including things like

Firefly
V
Alien Nation
Space: Above and Beyond
Raumpatrouille Orion
Buck Rogers in the 25th Centuri (1st season)

I don't think I will do any marathon watching this weekend (and neither on the next, I will be in Berlin then), I want to catch up with my Heroes, 24, Chuck, House and Lost pile that has grown over the last weeks.

When I come to the fourth season of Buffy I will watch Angel in parallel anyhow.

The question is, would you be interested in me doing a second review of Angel or would that be repetitive?

I suppose it depends if you change your opinion!  ;) Actually did you watch them integrated with Buffy... erm. Excuse me.

"Integrated with Buffy"

I just wanted to say that again because it sounded like a great way to spend an evening.

Ahem. Where was I?   :-[

Did you watch the Angel and Buffy episodes together last time? That could change your perception a little.

No, I didn't watch them together and I watched Angel for the first time back then.

Sorry that it has been slow in the last weeks but I am currently more occupied with watching the pile of episodes of the currently ending TV season and looking out for stuff that will bring me through the summer break.
