Title: Unwatched DVDs in my Collection...
Post by: addicted2dvd on May 30, 2011, 05:35:33 PM
I knew I shouldn't had looked... but I did anyway! I just looked at the numbers of what DVDs I haven't watched yet.

Movies:
875
Television:
220
Total:
1095

Granted... some of the TV Series are partially watched... but I still haven't completed them... so still in my unwatched pile.

Why oh why did I look?

And to think I am sure I will be getting more to add to this tomorrow for my birthday.

Looks like I need to get busy on these things!

You need to sit down and do nothing but watch DVDs for the next year.

No sleeping - no eating - no life. Nothing but DVD watching. Call your doctor for some pharmacological help. You'll need a feeding tube and urinal also.

Hurry - there is no time to waste - you have more DVDs coming in tomorrow and and another big box on Wednesday.

I don't track this info...just so I don't have to feel bad about how many I have unwatched.   :bag:

more or less 60 movies without counting my adult films (probably more than 200 I haven't watch yet). A couple of TV set too, but it's not often that I feel for watching TV DVD (I always finish them in a go, so I must be in it).

It is something I started to track years ago. Don't think I could stop now if I wanted to! :P

I also keep a pretty strict track of my horror movie collection since it is my all-time favorite genre... and I belong to some horror groups and such to give me a reason to keep a stricter track in this info.

As of the package that I just recently got... I am getting very close to 1,000 horror movies! As of today I have 914 Horror movies in my collection alone! Only 86 more and I will hit that 1,000 mark!

I could almost do a horror edition of our alphabet marathon. The only letter I am missing is X.

Maybe you included parent profiles...? Then it's maybe only 1050 or so... :P

Last time I checked (about three years ago maybe) I had 400 unwatched. I deem that number to be mostly unchanged.
Title: Re: Unwatched DVDs in my Collection...
Post by: addicted2dvd on May 31, 2011, 11:32:29 AM
Nope... no parent profiles included. This is something I kept track of well before I found DVD Profiler... and for some reason even after profiler I kept these files updated as well. So while this info can be found in profiler easy enough... I also have a numbered list that is always quick and easy to look at.

I watch and listen to every special feature on all DVDs that I own (otherwise I might as well just record the movies on tv and save.)  That is what I began keeping track of, and it made sense that if I am tracking that anyway to add the film itself to the list even though it's easier to remember if I have seen the film on DVD yet.

As with most things in life, it's all about perspective!

For example, I actually like to have at least a couple dozen unwatched movies & TV shows.  I don't know my current stats, but I'd guess combined I currently have about 50 more or less.

But, this is NOT a bad thing.  It just means when I want to watch something, I have a nice variety to choose from!  If I only had 3 unwatched movies, then I can promise I'd almost never be in the mood for one of those three.  I need choices!

Now, 50 is quite different that 1095.  The number scares me to be perfectly honest! But if you try hard enough, I'm sure you can find a way to make it not seem so bad. :hysterical:

Wow Pete! You're slowly approaching my numbers!

I have 1650 profiles unwatched - but that includes boxset parents, DVD childs of Blu-ray combos, etc etc etc. It's basically every single profile I haven't marked as watched - and that even includes some I have watched! ;)

And what am I watching currently? Smallville S1 - which I have already watched in the past - but it's been 6 years since I watched it, and I just got Seasons 8 and 9 - had to get back in it to be able to follow the story

So yeah, that's 1650 profiles unwatched ... :surrender:

Oldest unwatched was bought over 7 years ago ...  :slaphead:

Yes. But... Wouldn't part of the choice with 3 unwatched be, that you can rewatch stuff that you own and have seen before? Isn't that mostly the point of buying rather than renting in the first place? :P

But yes, I also usually prefer watching something unwatched then rewatch...
Title: Re: Unwatched DVDs in my Collection...
Post by: addicted2dvd on June 01, 2011, 01:08:11 PM
I would say half the time I like to watch something I never seen before. But the other half the time I like going back to watch my old favorites. Maybe that is part of the reason I get so far behind? :P

Pete - I think the problem is your friends keep sending you big boxes of DVDs. How in the world are you ever going to catch up?

Post by: addicted2dvd on June 01, 2011, 01:44:26 PM
What you talking about Kathy! That is no problem!  :P I mean after all... isn't it always good to have a nice big choice of what to watch. That way no matter what mood you are in you have plenty of choices!  :tease:

That's a nice theory, isn't it?

I do rewatch old stuff too.  Some of it many times.  But I do like having something new and during those times, I like to have choices! ;D

Where I differ from many here however is I like to have a couple dozen choices, not a couple hundred! :tease:

According to Profiler I have 919 profiles that are not flagged as Watched.

That figure is a bit on the high side, because that includes box sets (I know, I should change them to Count as 0, but there's just too many...) and it also includes some box set children that have been added after the box set was watched, and I never bothered to flag them as well.

Still, I have plenty of titles to watch when I go into retirement next year. (My God how time flies!)

Since I often buy seasons on DVD I just watched over the last year I decided to mark them as watched so that my "unwatched" pile isn't even more bigger than it already is.

26 of my DVDs i haven't watched yet out of i should say small cause it's small to all of yours so 26 out of a small collection of 158 that's counting box Set's as 1 I'm sure if i counted the boxsets per movie it would be over 200 lol same with my 26 un watched DVDs it has box sets as 1. Some of the DVDs i have bought and not watched are DVDs i have seen before a couple of times or loads but since i got them i have never watched them but ill find my self watching them if they come on TV dose anyone else ever do that ?

I seem to be hovering at around 20% unwatched.

I'm trying to hold off on new purchases until I've trimmed that substantially (Godzilla films constitute a large portion of that). Unfortunately, rather than watching stuff I already own but haven't watched, I borrow (from friends/the library) other movies rather than attack the pile (but at least it's better for the budget and doesn't enlarge the pile).

+1

I just piggybacked The Black Pirate (1926) (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Pirate-Blu-ray-Douglas-Fairbanks/dp/B0045W9D48/) blu-ray onto a workmate's Amazon order.
Blind buy, but from a short clip and some screenshots I've seen, I think I'll enjoy it.  :)
...and thus swells the unwatched pile.

My new totals as of this morning....

Unwatched Movies: 950
Unwatched TV Shows: 253
Total Unwatched: 1,203

I have a package on the way... could arrive any day now. This is another huge package that will have between 65 and 75 titles in it. I don't know exactly. If I don't get busy watching some movies from my unwatched pile it will be up over 1,000 for movies alone!  :stars: I have to watch at least 16 movies before this package arrives to stay under 1,000 unwatched movies! Not sure I will make it!  :tease:

I have made it to exactly 1,000 before... that is the highest it ever was. And then I watched something as soon as possible to get it back down under 1,000. :P I don't think it will be quite that easy this time around though. :P

Yesterday after the package got here I did a count of unwatched movies. Made me sick! Exactly 1,000 unwatched movies! If I would have watched just 1 movie yesterday morning I would have stayed under 1,000!  :voodoo:

But so far today I watched 1 movie... so back down to 999!

I try and sell on Play. No point with Ebay. Practicalities of involving other members may be awkward. Alright for an odd one here or there, but cost of sending abroad can spoil things...

But all the same... I would love to hear what you all think is a must see in the above list! I am sure I will get to at least some of them!

There are so many good movies there, but a comedy I think is perfect for your tastes from the reviews you've written, I think you should check out Rat Race.

Thanks! It is one I been thinking about for some time now... but for some reason I keep putting it off. No idea why.

Not even a thousand films ::)
I'm disapointed....

I laugh at the high total of unwatched movies you have, but I just checked my wallcase fast and I have more than 300 hundred movies unwatched and I don't even count my adult films :stars:

When I got that big package it went to exactly 1,000... but I watched several movies since then.  :tease:

First, go to your collection and bring out Ally Farson: Confessed Murderess: "My Private Life". Open the case, remove the DVD and toss it in the garbage. Do NOT watch this movie. If you do...you can't say I didn't warn you!

Now that you took out the garbage, back to the ones that have some value.

With all those films, I'm sure you must have seen a lot of them before getting the DVDs. So, I would watch a movie I had never seen before.

One of my favorite romantic comedies is Bull Durham.

The Dark Crystal is special.

The Guardian was quite good.

I know you enjoy true stories so I would recommend A League of the Own.

Unfaithful was good too.

But, I see you still have not seen Star Wars. How can you say you like DVDs when you haven't watched this yet?

I have seen A League of Their Own  before... very good. And of course I have seen the Star Wars movies before... just haven't watched them on DVD. I been trying to save the Star Wars movies to watch with Britt... but don't think that will happen so may just have to watch them on my own.

28 Weeks Later * American History X * Angel-A * Apocalypto * Armageddon * Big Trouble in Little China * Black Hawk Down * Clerks * Convoy * Dazed and Confused * District 9 * Dodgeball * Escape from New York * Ferris Bueller's Day Off * Get Carter * The Golden Compass * Good Night, And Good Luck * The Guardian * Hamburger Hill * Hot Fuzz * House of Flying Daggers * I, Robot * Joe Dirt * Kiss Kiss Bang Bang * Leon: The Professional * Love Actually * Lucky # Slevin * Pan's Labyrinth * Rambo * Rollerball * Sahara * The Searchers * Shallow Hal * South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut * Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back * Starship Troopers * The Third Man * Thirty-Nine Steps * Tombstone * Trailer Park of Terror * The Transporter * Transporter 2 * Transporter 3 * Troy * V is for Vendetta * Watchmen: Director's Cut * White Noise * White Noise 2 * The Wicker Man * Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Out of your list, personally I'd put these to the top. That is of course assuming that Get Carter and The Wicker Man are the original 1970's versions and not the God awful remakes.
If they're the remakes, put them with the one that Kathy suggested.

Out of the ones I whittled it down to? I hear you ask well the 3 that would get priority, would be.

It is the remake of Wicker Man... but I have seen the original Wicker Man... and I didn't like it at all! My Review (http://www.dvdcollectorsonline.com/index.php/topic,5890.msg103035.html#msg103035)... I only gave it one star out of a possible 5. And every since been afraid to watch the remake as well... though it couldn't be any worse!  :tease:

The remake is horrendous. Then again, I'm opposite ypou and gave the original 5/5.

yeah... like I said in the other thread... I will probably like the remake better in this case.

With the movies that I got in the mail today I am now at exactly 1,000 unwatched movies in my collection!  :o Looks like I need to watch one here real quick to get it down below 1,000!  Make that two since I have another movie on the way! Of course a couple packages Brittany wrapped for me look like DVDs. Then I have a package that Kathy said she will send me... with who knows how many! She isn't talking at all!  :voodoo:  :tease:

I think I better be sure to work on my unwatched pile this weekend!  :P

Ever heard of "Trick Packages"?
There are people that could wrap a cucumber and make the package look like a DVD case.
...
Not sure how good the cucumber looks afterwards though.

There once was a thread on the other forum "How do you know you are a DVD hoarder" (Or similar).

The answer is, as I learned just now, quite simple: You don't!

Need to work on this more this weekend. I now have it down to 996. But I want it to stay below 1,000 and my birthday is coming quick... and I have no idea how many I will see then. Think I may just watch some today as well.  :P

Bonus? Why "Bonus"?
It's a "Limited Edition", isn't it?

Now if it was an Un-Limited Edition, my compassion would have been limitless, if not infinite.

Sitting at 1350 unwatched with 40ish on order. Once you break that 1000 movie barrier you just hope you don't break the 2000. :hysterical:

I did get up to 1550 recently, but just managed to get back under 1500. 1499. :yahoo:

That's why I've done recently too..at least with movies that I've watched.

Heck I even rewatched my Big Bang Theory Sets over the summer...I'm up to watching the first season like 8 times now.  lol

I have made a little progress with my tv shows on DVD that I haven't watched before..at least on DVD.  I did get through season 4 of Castle..I'm just waiting on the update to come down with the better cover scans before I update my watched signature stuff.
