Title: Letterboxd.com
Post by: samuelrichardscott on May 18, 2012, 12:49:54 AM
New BETA site which plans on ebing like a Twitter of movies. Some cracking little features like a film diary etc etc, and you can turn on and off friend feeds. I'm just started going through my 2009 watch list to add:
http://letterboxd.com/samdvd1/films/diary/

Anyway, if anybody wants a BETA code to sign up, PM me your e-mail address. The more I use the site, the more I like it!

Okay, so I gave up on this in BETA but recently rediscovered it and love it.

It's sort of facebook with movie watching, but without annoying 'social updates' etc.

Anyway, join and friend me peoples http://letterboxd.com/samdvd1/

Taking a look at this ... though sad that the first film I entered didn't exist :)  Haven't given up on it yet and will try others.

Just wondering how many sites etc there is time to enter info into.

Which film? I've been adding viewings for films that have 10 votes on imdb and only come across a few shorts missing so far.

Yeah i should have come back and mentioned the last one i tried, 'The Hunter' (steve Mcqueen) was there but in the drop down it said

The Hunter 1980 buzz kulik

Who the *(&*%$% is buzz kulik and how does that help me select the right film???

But it was there so will keep working with it and see how it improves.

Edited:  Of course as soon as I saved the post it remembered that Buzz Kulik was the director.  But really ... the director?  In most cases I could care less about the director :)  Let me know the stars for identification.

But like i said .. still working with it.

Do you have the free version or the paid version?

Kulik is the director, and the director is generally included after the title. :P

Trying it out now.

Other good things I like:
- You can like reviews, but you can't 'dislike' reviews. This stops some of the bs you see just because perhaps you dislike a popular film, or you like a film.
- Clicking on a movie's main page, you can go to the bottom right and it tells you how many people rated a movie. If any of your friends have, you click and it lists your friends and their rating for that title.
- You can use personal tags for anything.
- Although I haven't made one yet, the lists function is very nice. You can find other peoples lists, like their top 10 of 1994 or whatever and it tells you the % of the movies you've seen.

Here's an example of a list I just made:
http://letterboxd.com/samdvd1/list/golden-raspberry-award-for-worst-picture/

Out of the movies I've gotten round to rating so far, I've seen 14% of the worst pictures.

Here's something else cool. It tells you the % of the movies you've seen from which ever actors/actresses page you go to.
http://letterboxd.com/actor/sandra-bullock/

I also like the option to make it so that those you've seen are a little darker and makes it easy to spot the ones you need to see (one of the options in the dropdown).

I am giving it a run. Wonder if there is something similar for TV show episodes. Like something to check off the episodes as you watch them.

Do you have the free version or the paid version?

I'm taking my viewings and scores from my notebooks rather than imdb, so I have no use for the import and went for the free for now. I see you went pro and did an import though, but everything is scored either 0.5-2/5. Must be something wrong with your imported data?

Yeah I wanted to see how their tools worked.  Don't mind spending the money to support new sites ... as log as they work

I sent them an email about the import with a sample of the data.  The *instructions* say "Number (optional, rating out of 10)".  My guess is that decimals through it :)

Yeah ... not giving up on it .. it could be good.

But still haven't heard back from then about how to get the ratings fixed.  How to remove all of my items so I can reload.

I wish they had a forum.

Really just marking movies that's I've seen.  I've put in dates for some of them.  I probably won't go back any earlier..I could thanks to profiler, but it would take time.

I wish they had a forum.

It would probably be a huge mess of 5,000 people posting the same reviews as they did on the pages each day.

Since I have always cataloged my DVDs for the sake of the DVD data itself (as well as ownership/purchase info) and rarely for the sake of reviews, a watched date, and so on, that site really isn't for me, but the quality has improved a great deal since I scanned it some time last year.

Did you hear back in the end? I've sent 3 e-mails in the last few days and had replies within 24 hours to each (pointing out duplicates for them to merge).

Sorry, I have been gone several days but should have noted .. I did get a reply.  I do have some differences with them on their naming and covers.  And would like to see a couple other features .. but overall it is an okay site.  Most of the time the response was very quick.

I been using this since this thread was first started. And I finally hit one that wasn't in the database. So I did what it asked for it to be added. Now I just wonder how long it will take for me to be able to add it.
