01. Pilot (2007-09-24)
Writer: Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady
Director: James Burrows
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Vernée Watson (Althea), Brian Patrick Wade (Kurt)

A very promising first episode. It had some really funny scenes in it. I am curious how it will continue. If they can make interesting storylines with this premise or if it essentially will be the same jokes only in different variations.
James Burrows directing the pilot: Now that is a good sign.

02. The Big Bran Hypothesis (2007-10-01)
Writer: Robert Cohen, Dave Goetsch, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali)

I loved the Superman discussion :)
If this series would solely consist of such discussions with no storyline to speak of, I would still continue to watch it (yes I am a geek :bag: )

1. Pilot
Brain doesn't have much of a chance against brawn when Leonard and Sheldon try to retrieve Penny's TV from her muscle-bound ex.

My Thoughts:
I think this was a great start to the series. You get to care about the characters fairly easy... and think the chemistry between them is there from the start. Obviously my favorite character has to be Penny... but this is one of those rare occasions where I actually like all the characters!

2. The Big Bran Hypothesis
Leonard tries to keep Sheldon from fighting chaos in the universe, the center of which is Penny's messy apartment.

My Thoughts:
I found this to be a hilarious episode. I am the first to admit I am a little bit of a slob... so I could just imagine how I would have reacted. But hey... at least it would save me a lot of work! just leave my door unlocked every night!  :P

3. The Fuzzy Boots Corollary
Leonard has a date - with Penny. Too bad he hasn't told her about it.

My Thoughts:
This is pretty much just an OK episode in my opinion. I mean it was still enjoyable... but it seemed to be a step down from the previous 2 episodes. I think... for me... the best part of this episode had to be the vomit joke (poor guy on the bike). I believe that was probably the only laugh out loud moment for me in this episode.

Brittany didn't write any... but I can easily tell you she loved every episode so far... she was laughing non-stop through all 3 episodes so far.

Disc 1

Pilot
Synopsis: The two theoretical physicists Leonard and Sheldon get a new Neighbour: Penny, a waitress in The Cheesecake Factory. And suddenly two galaxies begin to crash into each other.

My Opinion: I liked the series from the beginning, all these cultural references gave me a happy. But I also liked the small details like Howards' belt buckle (this time a Nintendo gamepad --> look out for it, it changes from episode to episode!) and the "table of elements" shower curtain.

The Big Bran Hypothesis
Synopsis: After he's seen the chaos that is Penny's appartment, Sheldon cleans it (and Leonard helps him) during the night while Penny's sleeping. Naturally she freaks out when she realizes what they've done.

My Opinion: I think every episode of the first season is funny as hell, so no point repeating it over and over again. The  best scenes of this episode were the discussion about Lois Lane's fall and the re-design of the IKEA media center.

The Fuzzy Boots Corollary
Synopsis: After having no luck with Leslie, Leonard tries to ask Penny out to a date. But she totally misinterprets the invitation, thus not considering it a date.

My Opinion: I recognized Sarah Gilbert (Leslie; Darlene in Roseanne) at once but I needed a friend to really open my eyes. I didn't think I knew Johnny Galecki (Leonard) from anywhere until my friend pointed out that he played Darlene's friend David on Roseanne.

The Luminous Fish Effect
Synopsis: Sheldon gets canned after he's insulted his new boss in his very own - and typical - way. But he uses his time off to invent new things the world was waiting for, e.g. a luminous fish as a night light.

My Opinion: First Sarah and now Laurie Metcalf (Jackie in Roseanne). It's like family reunion. ;) I am wondering where the authors get all these ideas, e.g. to make a physicists weaving his own poncho. It's hilarious. I also find it terribly funny when Sheldons asks things or answers to questions with no regard to the appropriateness.

The Hamburger Postulate
Synopsis: After they been practicing with their classical instruments, Leonard sleeps with Leslie and is now torn between his fantasy about Penny and the prospect of having a real relatuonship with Leslie.

My Opinion: And again it's Sheldon and his not having a clue about social conventions that makes me laugh the most ("Message received!"). But the entire banana scene was also really great.

The Middle Earth Paradigm
Synopsis: Penny invites the four - Leonard, Sheldon, Howard and Raj - over to a Halloween party and Leonard hopes that he can present himself in another light during that party.

My Opinion: Nerds. ;) All the costumes were great and also the commentaries about them (Flashs walk in row; hobbit vs. elf; Robin Hood vs. Peter Pan) and I also really liked the closing scene.

4. The Luminous Fish Effect
Fish nightlights. Hand-loomed ponchos. A visit from Mom. Things get freaky when Sheldon gets fired.

My Thoughts:

This was a good episode.. though not what I would call great.I liked that another Roseanne alumni was in this episode. This time it was Laurie Metcalf (Aunt Jackie) playing Sheldon's mother. Brittany really liked the luminous fish.

5. The Hamburger Postulate
Leonard's relationship with co-worker Leslie takes an unexpected turn, causing Sheldon to ponder the meaning of a tie on the doorknob.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode... and the second time Sara Gilbert (Darlene on Roseanne) has guest starred in an episode. Brittany worried me a little on this one. She laughed at Sheldon calling Leonard in the middle of sex to let him know message received. and stated how wrong that was. My 12yr. old daughter already knows that is uncalled for... what a proud moment for a father... not! :-p

6. The Middle Earth Paradigm
Leonard discovers "hobbit" is the wrong costume to wear to Penny's Halloween party when her ex-boyfriend shows up. Also, Sheldon is not a zebra.

My Thoughts:
This is a really fun episode... one of my favorites. Of course that may have something to do with it being a Halloween episode... I really do love Halloween episodes of my favorite shows. I am sure I will be watching this one again for my Horror/Halloween Marathon. Penny's ex boyfriend (from Pilot episode) is back for this one. And of course once again Leonard and Sheldon has a confrontation with him.

03. The Fuzzy Boots Corollary (2007-10-08)
Writer: Bill Prady, Steven Molaro, Chuck Lorre
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Sara Gilbert (Leslie Winkle), Allen Nabors (Doug), Treisa Gary (Waitress), Sherry Weston (Instructor)

So far the least funny episode. But it was good to see Sara Gilbert. Sadly she was only in one scene.

04. The Luminous Fish Effect (2007-10-15)
Writer: David Litt, Lee Aronsohn, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Laurie Metcalf (Mary), Mark Harelik (Dr. Gablehauser), Sierra Edwards (Summer)

An improvement to the previous episode. Next Roseanne cast member visiting.

So, last night I finally got to pop in that first disc of this much hyped (on this board) series. I watched episodes 1 & 2 to get started with this...

I must say I was not disappointed. Seeing the communication break down between this two groups coming from what appears to be different planets is quite funny. It is ripping off The IT-Crowd from the UK without giving them credit(?), but I guess that's life. The characters are nicely set up so far and the humor keeps coming. I had several laugh-out-loud moments. I enjoyed Jim Parson's (Sheldon) acting very much. He has a rather subtle style, compared to the others. Looking forward to continue this show in the next few days.

There was this one joke in the first episode I wanted to quote, but I already forgot it before the episode was over :bag: (not because it was bad after all, but because there was sufficient material following that scene...).

What is a little irritating is the use of large quantites of scientific and technical terms. I could imagine that that leaves many casual viewers in the cold. I had to turn on the subtitles to improve the understanding/bafflement ratio.

05. The Hamburger Postulate (2007-10-22)
Writer: Dave Goetsch, Steven Molaro, Jennifer Glickman
Director: Andrew D. Weyman
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Sara Gilbert (Leslie Winkle)

Yeah, a bigger role for Sara :)
This one was a great episode. Sheldon is becoming my favorite character so far.

06. The Middle Earth Paradigm (2007-10-29)
Writer: David Litt, Robert Cohen, Dave Goetsch
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Brian Patrick Wade (Kurt), Rachel Cannon (Patty), Erin Allin O'Reilly (Cheryl), Kimberly Kevon Williams (Vicki), Cynthia Holloway (Roberta)

A good episode. Not as good as the previous one.

Sheldon is becoming my favorite character so far.
Sheldon is without a doubt my favorite character on the show. He gets better as the season goes on. Can't wait to see him in S2 (have the season premiere waiting for me to watch - just need some freggin time.. :-\ )

Tomorrow I'll start watching S1.

03. The Fuzzy Boots Corollary (2007-10-08)
[...]
So far the least funny episode. But it was good to see Sara Gilbert. Sadly she was only in one scene.
I can say I found this one to be just as funny as the previous two. I really enjoyed how some jokes were quite underplayed, presented without specific emphasis.

Funny episode, again. Laurie Metcalf is great and very recognizable to me; was great seeing her. It seems Sara Gilbert is from Rosanne too? Did not recognize her, will have to pay attention in the next episode she's in... Which daughter did she play in Rosanne?

I agree that Sheldon is a great character. The way he freaked out in the Luminuos Fish :fishy: episode is just great. :ok: ...and I loved the last shot of the episode!

The one thing that really don't like here is: the laugh track. I came to despise those over the years and appreciate every comedy show that dares to go without one.

Sara Gilbert played Darlene, the younger of the two daughters. The one who had David as a boyfriend, who in turn was played by Johnny Galecki (Leonard).

Sara Gilbert played Darlene, the younger of the two daughters. The one who had David as a boyfriend, who in turn was played by Johnny Galecki (Leonard).
Yeah, today I somewhat recognized her. Although, she sure got older... But her hair gave it away that she sure wasn't the blond one

So, I finished the first disc. It's a great series and I am looking forward to go through the next episodes over the next two weeks.

There was great jokes in both episodes. Leonard getting abused was predictable but had great moments during the lab scene. The Doppler Effect as a halloween costumes must have been a first!

"That's how we roll in the Shire!" Actually, I am a bit concerned about Penny's and Leonard's relationship. I have a feeling it's funnier if they are not together and Leonard has to keep running after her. But a) I may be wrong and b) I will just wait and see.

1. Pilot
Synopsis: The two theoretical scientists Leonard and Sheldon get a new Neighbour: Penny, a waitress in The Cheesecake Factory. And suddenly two galaxies begin to crash into each other.

My Thoughts: The opening 2 minutes alone sets up the show perfectly. Sheldon's idea for a t-shirt is great. I think Penny learns everything she need to know abotu her new friends when they tell her they play Klingon Boggle. HA! Luke Skywalker Conditioning Shampoo.

Favorite line: Sheldon to Leonard at the end: "I don't know what your odd are in the whole world but as far as this car goes you're a veritable Mac Daddy"

Great start. All of the characters are set up nicely. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

2. The Big Bran Hypothesis
Synopsis: After he's seen the chaos that is Penny's appartment, Sheldon cleans it (and Leonard helps him) during the night while Penny's sleeping. Naturally she freaks out when she realizes what they've done.

My Thoughts: Leonard comes out at night after hearing what seems to be a noise with his light saber. It's really funny cause he seems to honestly think it would help him if someone was there.  Penny begins to define her relationships with all of the guys and how they interact through out the show. It's good to see what they set up now continues true to form throughout the rest of the season (and hopefully into S2. I also like the way she messes with them as a group (something else they continue). When they are redesigning the TV stand and she says
(click to show/hide)

Favorite lines:
Howard in the hallway "[Speaking Russian]"
Penny: "I'm Sorry?"
Howard: "Haven't you ever been told how beautiful you are in flawless Russian?"
Penny: "No, I haven't"
Howard quickly replies: "Get used to it"
Penny a bit creeped out replies: "Yea... I probably wont"

3. The Fuzzy Boots Corollary
Synopsis: After having no luck with Leslie, Leonard tries to ask Penny out to a date. But she totally misinterprets the invitation, thus not considering it a date.

My Thoughts: Another great beginning to an episode (The four of them playing an online game on their laptops). The openings to each episode are entertaining enough!

The exchange between Leonard & Sarah Gilbert (Leslie) discussing a date was really funny. How they break it down to it's pure fundamental elements and then reach a conclusion was perfect.

Favorite Line: Sheldon to Leonard as Leonard came in from giving Penny her mail: "Penny for your thoughts"

The Luminous Fish Effect
Synopsis: Sheldon gets canned after he's insulted his new boss in his very own - and typical - way. But he uses his time off to invent new things the world was waiting for, e.g. a luminous fish as a night light.

My Thoughts: Not my favorite episode but still very funny. The egg experiement was great, especially the conclusion
(click to show/hide)
Laurie Metcalf's character is good but for me it is hard to believe someone so deeply rooted in logic and science as Sheldon is could have such a religious upbringing.

Favorite Lines: Sheldon to Penny after his failed egg experiment:
Penny: "Hey, I'm running out to the market, do you guys need anything?"
Sheldon: "Oh... this would be one of the circumstances that people who aren't familiar with the law of large numbers would call a coincedence"

5. The Hamburger Postulate
Synopsis: After they been practicing with their classical instruments, Leonard sleeps with Leslie and is now torn between his fantasy about Penny and the prospect of having a real relationship with Leslie.

My Thoughts: Re: Opening where they are reenacting the civil war with the aid of Orcs, Godzilla, Superman and apparently a pair of Hindu Gods - Could these guys be any more geeky?  :hysterical:

Leslie is a great character. Flash freezing a banana for her cereal cause she didn't have a knife. Great stuff.

Sheldon and Penny together absolutely crack me up and once again they have my favorite line in the show.
Sheldon: "I need your opinion on a matter of semiotics
Penny: "I'm Sorry?" (a line she uses a lot!)
Sheldon: "Semiotics - the study of signs and symbols. It's a branch of philosophy related to linguistics"
Penny [speaking slowly]: "Okay, sweetie, I know you think you're explaining yourself but you're really not"

6. The Middle Earth Paradigm
Synopsis: Penny invites the four - Leonard, Sheldon, Howard and Raj - over to a Halloween party and Leonard hopes that he can present himself in another light during that party.

My Thoughts:6. I have to admit, the fisrt time I saw this episode I was just about to have an asthma attack when they all came in with their costumes.
(click to show/hide)
Reachin for the puffer... tryin to get my breath back  :hysterical:

Sheldon studying the group of party goers and comparing it to Jane Goodall studying apes, and explaining his costume all night.. LOL funny. He really plays his character great. These guys just don't know how to fit in with the average person and they know it, Except Howard that is  He thinkgs he is quite the ladies man.

Leonard taking on Penny's old boyfriend with the help of his "wingman" was a great scene too. The classic brains against brawn.

Favorite lines (Couldnt' pick one this time):
Sheldon: "[giving his audio clue to help people figure out his costume, the doppler effect]"

Leonard: "That's how we roll in the shire"

On to disc 2

Yay, it's Monday!

So I watched the first two episodes of disc 2. Still great stuff right there.

The Dumpling Paradox was as funny as they come. Several jokes are rather predictable but they are presented well enough to be funny. I loved the moment where you see Raj eating a sandwich... (you'll understand after you've seen it)

The Grasshopper Experiment is Raj's big moment. Funny how he almost gets into a fight with Sheldon

7. The Dumpling Paradox
Wolowitz gets a girl. Penny beats Sheldon at Halo. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

My Thoughts:
This was a hilarious episode... I enjoyed every second of it. I especially enjoyed the scene in the restaurant where they were trying to figure out how to divide the Chinese food.

8. The Grasshopper Experiment
Rajesh flips over his gorgeous blind date. But she only has eyes for Sheldon. Sheldon?!

My Thoughts:
Another really funny episode. Not only do we get a fun reaction to Rajesh drinking... I also enjoyed the experiment Penny performed at the end of the episode. I find myself laughing more and more at this show.
Title: Re: "Big Bang Theory" Marathon

9. The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization
Leonard and Sheldon go from physics to fisticutts when tempers flare at the symposium.

My Thoughts:
Another really funny episode... had to love the little so called fight between Leonard and Sheldon. But also... had to love the remote controllable cars all chasing Penny.

10. The Loobenfeld Decay
Sheldon cannot tell a lie. He has to tell at least seven. And they are all "un-unravelable!"

My Thoughts:
This one is another fun one. Both Brittany and I were laughing out loud during the whole episode. The extent Sheldon goes to for a lie is unbelievable.

11. The Pancake Batter Anomaly
Everyone knows to head to the hills when Sheldon gets sick. Everyone except Penny, that is.

My Thoughts:
OMG... talk about becoming a baby when you get sick. This is one more thing that Sheldon takes to an extreme. Definitely a good episode... had many laughs while watching it.

07. The Dumpling Paradox (2007-11-05)
Writer: Lee Aronsohn, Jennifer Glickman, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Brooke D'Orsay (Christy), James Hong (Chen), Carol Ann Susi (Mrs. Wolowitz), Kimberly D. Brooks (Automated Cell Phone Voice (voice))

Great episode!
I always love the banter between Sheldon and Penny. And this episode was full of it :)
Who else thinks, that Penny and Sheldon would make a much more interesting couple than Penny and Leonard?

08. The Grasshopper Experiment (2007-11-12)
Writer: Lee Aronsohn, Robert Cohen, Dave Goetsch, Steven Molaro
Director: Ted Wass
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Sararyu Rao (Lalita), Brian George (Dr. Koothrappali), Alice Amter (Mrs. Koothrappali)

A good episode, but nothing like the previous one.
Brian George (Bashir's dad on DS9, Babu from Seinfeld) plays Rajesh's father.

Sorry, I'm a bit late, but I never got the chance to start watching until now. So I watched the first 6 episodes in one go tonight.

I must say, this is probably the funniest show I've seen in a long while. So many good lines. I love that awkward, inept kind of humour that Sheldon brings. Well, they all do, but nobody quite like Sheldon. He's my favourite character so far. Along with Leslie. I'm still laughing at her flat, emotionless delivery of "Oh, Leonard, you magnificent beast."  (episode 5)

I love it! Thanks for whoever suggested we all get it! Can't wait to dive into disc 2!!

Who else thinks, that Penny and Sheldon would make a much more interesting couple than Penny and Leonard?
They really are great together. It's almost Sheldon is just a bit intimidated by her and he's not sure what to do about it. As I said before Sheldon is by far my favorite character. A lot of that is due to his interaction with Penny I'm sure.

I do get a kick out of Penny and Howard's interactions as well though.

I was just thinking the same yesterday! At the same time feeling that this may just be where it's headed :hmmmm:

Along with Leslie. I'm still laughing at her flat, emotionless delivery of "Oh, Leonard, you magnificent beast."  (episode 5)
I thought she was very reminiscent of Judith in 3rd Rock from the Sun.

9. The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization
Leonard and Sheldon go from physics to fisticutts when tempers flare at the symposium.

Now here you go... "It happens m ore often than you'd think." What a fun episode to see this to physicists pick a fight with each other and then sucxk at apologizing

10. The Loobenfeld Decay
Sheldon cannot tell a lie. He has to tell at least seven. And they are all "un-unravelable!"

Like Pete said, it was great to watch Sheldon protect his lie. Also his usual carelessness reagrding social protocol comes out several times; gotta love him for that.

12. The Jersualem Duality
When a child prodigy arrives on campus, Sheldon graciously sets out to destroy him.

My Thoughts:
I found this episode to be fun... but just not as good as the previous episodes. It was a lot of fun to see Sheldon being challenged by  a teenager like this though.

09. The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization (2008-03-17)
Writer: Chuck Lorre, Lee Aronsohn, Dave Goetsch, Bill Prady, Stephen Engel
Director: Joel Murray
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Talbott Lin (Chinese Leonard), Howard Chan (Chinese Sheldon)

Another great episode! Sheldon keeps on delivering my favorite lines :)

10. The Loobenfeld Decay (2008-03-24)
Writer: Bill Prady, Lee Aronsohn, Chuck Lorre
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), D.J. Qualls (Toby)

They were talking about Sarah Connor Chronicles
Looks like Sheldon doesn't like it :(

Sheldon having to have to manufacture the perfect lie because he didn't like the white lie Leonard thought up :)

"You have a lot to learn about lying"

Nice to see D.J. Qualls again. Haven't seen him for years in anything.

11. The Pancake Batter Anomaly (2008-03-31)
Writer: Bill Prady, Stephen Engel, Chuck Lorre, Lee Aronsohn
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Carol Ann Susi (Mrs. Wolowitz), Erin Allin O'Reilly (Cheryl)

Sheldon is sick and is being a pain in the ass. A good episode (though not as good as other Sheldon-centered episodes so far).
And Sheldon got Penny to rub his chest. Lucky guy!

12. The Jersualem Duality (2008-04-14)
Writer: Dave Goetsch, Steven Molaro, Jennifer Glickman, Stephen Engel
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Mark Harelik (Dr. Gablehauser), Austin Lee (Dennis), Emma Degerstedt (Emma)

Nice idea for an episode, but the execution could have been better. Nothing really funny about this episode.

11. The Pancake Batter Anomaly
12. The Jersualem Duality

These two were the funniest episodes yet! I couldn't stop laughing. I would have hoped 12. to end differently (this was predictable and being the target of the other three guys not surprising at all) but the jokes were excellent. Sheldon as a helpless sick pulp whining for help and his idea to transfer Jerusalem to Mexico were pure gold ("If you build it they will come." :hysterical:)

Hey guys,

I won't gonna make it this week. I have a lot of work to do this evening and tomorrow is Reunification Day and I will be in Berlin from tomorrow to Sunday. I'll watch discs 2 and 3 next week.

My head is spinning when I think about that last disc :stars: Besides that I should be watching as much horror as I can, I am half-way addicted to playing Burnout: Paradise online and sometime this week I should be getting the first of five new games that will be released in October. I think I need a vacation  (Well, lucky enough Friday 10 is holiday here).

7. The Dumpling Paradox
Synopsis: Wolowitz gets a girl. Penny beats Sheldon at Halo. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

My Thoughts:
I love the beginnings of these shows, and this one is no exception. Anyone who has used voice technology can relate with the phone sketch. And then the discussion on how to make up the lost 6 minutes from starting Halo late is very funny. When it was suggested to split the difference and cut short the three breaks by two minutes each Howard worriedly replies “If we’re having anchovies on the pizza we can’t take it out of bathroom time”

This is one of my favorite episodes. I love how penny not only can compete and keep up with the guys in Halo but she keeps blowing off Sheldon’s head.  :hysterical: The whole Halo scene was so freggin funny.

Fast forward to the restaurant… more  :hysterical: Sheldon honestly can't order without their being a forth.

The end, with the Halo scene, Penny and her friends finishes the show perfectly. Great episode

Favorite line (Sheldon gets so many of these , and well deserved, but this one goes to Howard and Penny):
Penny walks into the apartment
Penny talks about her visitor and says “… and washing the sluttiest collection of underwear you have ever seen in my bathroom sink”
Howard excitedly asks (as he is leaning off the edge of the couch) “Is she doing it one thong at a time or does she throw it all in? Like some sort of erotic bouillabaisse?”

8. The Grasshopper Experiment
Synopsis: Rajesh flips over his gorgeous blind date. But she only has eyes for Sheldon. Sheldon?!

My Thoughts:
My least favorite episode so far. The most enjoyable parts were those involving Sheldon and Penny regarding his virgin Cuba Libres.

Favorite line: [Howard imitating Raj and making the date for him]

9. The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization
Synopsis: Leonard and Sheldon go from physics to fisticutts when tempers flare at the symposium.

My Thoughts:
Another fantastic beginning (controlling the house via the www).

I loved the closet scene. Poor Leonard, trying to explain everything to Penny.

Favorite line: [Sheldon trying to blow up Leonard’s head]

10. The Loobenfeld Decay
Synopsis: Sheldon cannot tell a lie. He has to tell at least seven. And they are all "un-unravelable!"

My Thoughts:
One word to describe this whole episode

Un-unravelable  :hysterical:

11. The Pancake Batter Anomaly
Synopsis: Everyone knows to head to the hills when Sheldon gets sick. Everyone except Penny, that is.

My Thoughts:
A side of Sheldon we didn’t know, but not unexpected. I loved him using lime jello to grow his germs.

Favorite line: Penny singing “Soft Kitty” as she rubs Sheldon’s chest (counter clockwise of course)

11. The Jerusalem Duality
[b[Synopsis:[/b] When a child prodigy arrives on campus, Sheldon graciously sets out to destroy him.

My Thoughts:
Great episode although I did miss Penny. I think her interaction with the four guys is what makes the show. Not that all the scenes have to have her, it was funny watching Sheldon visiting his co-workers. “So, it’s a shelf”

Favorite line: I agree with Achim on this, “Build it and they will come” has to be the best

2 down, 1 to go. I’m waiting to watch the S:2 premiere until I finish with disc 3.

I just finished the last disc, in one session. For me, with the rather average (which isn't saying anything bad given what I'm talking about) this is the best bunch of episodes of the first season! It seems like the actors finally got really comfortable with their characters and can really rip through the material.

Great times are to be had with Sheldon being unable to be a team player, a time machine, Raj on medication ("Surprise!" :hysterical:) and Sheldon actually giving wise advice (without knowing it, of course).

The bad part about this disc: Now begins the long wait for Season 2 (luckily this show is not running on Fox).

Thanks to all of you who "talked me into" buying this.

One more thing: I previously complained about the laugh-track but slowly got the feeling that it's an actual live audience watching the taping of the show; the special feature on the last disc eventually confirmed that. (Live audiences are slightly less annoying than laugh tracks.)

Are they watching a tape or are they watching the taping? Because I know that (for example) Friends and Home Improvement were shot in front of a life audience.

I am sure they said "live audience", so same to Home Improvement...

I don't think they ever have an audience watching the taped show, they probably get the laugh track otherwise...

Slipped in a couple episodes.... need to get this last disc watched this week.

13. The Bat Jar Conjecture
Sheldon is the MVP on the guys' Physics Bowl team: "Most Vain Physicist."

My Thoughts:
In my opinion this one is only an OK episode. I actually didn't laugh a single time while watching it. It was good to see the character of Leslie back in the episode though.

14. The Nerdvana Annihilation
Leonard is thrilled with his prop Time Machine from the 1960 film, until Penny tells him it's unhip to play Morlocks and Elois.

My Thoughts:
This is another one that in my opinion even though it was good... I didn't find it as good as the previous episodes.  Once again there was just no parts that actually made me laugh in this episode.

Unfortunately a couple episodes that just didn't do it for me this time. Hopefully the next I watch will be better.

15. The Pork Chop Indeterminacy
Sheldon's twin Missy is nothing like Sheldon... which makes her the other guys' newest dream girl.

My Thoughts:
After a couple OK episodes.. this one was much better. I enjoyed every second of it. It was hilarious seeing the guys going after Sheldon's sister.... as it was to see Rajesh on that experimental medication for his shyness.

16. The Peanut Reaction
Leonard's birthday finds Wolowitz and Leonard in the ER and Penny and Sheldon sharing a shopping trip from hell.

My Thoughts:
This is another one I enjoyed. Liked seeing Penny and Sheldon shopping together... and Wolowitz after eating peanuts was fun as well.

17. The Tangerine Factor
Nervous about their first date, Leonard and Penny seek advice from the same romance-savvy sage: Sheldon.

My Thoughts:
Well... that's it... the final episode of the season. It is such a shame the first season was so short (Damn Writer's Strike!)  but at least we got 17 episodes of this hilarious series. I really enjoyed this episode as well. There was several good laughs... though nothing that stands out that much for me. Just a really good episode.

Disc 2

The Dumpling Paradox
Synopsis: The group's order is seriously disrupted when Howard makes out with a acquaintance of Penny's and Penny becomes the fourth player of the "Halo" night.

My Opinion: I loved it when Penny kicked Sheldon's ass, especially with the plasma grenade. But I have to point out that we've seen Sheldon sleep with his head towards the door a few episodes earlier. ;)

The Grasshopper Experiment
Synopsis: Penny works one shift as a barkeeper now and she practices with the four guys when the unfathomable happens: Raj talks to her! And why? Because his parents try to pair him off with some indian girl.

My Opinion: All the alcohol-induced scenes were great, especially the one at the end. And it was also great to see how Sheldon swept her off her feet without knowing what he was doing.

The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization
Synopsis: Leonard and Sheldon get an invitation to present their findings about a project to a wider scientific community but Sheldon is above such things and forbids Leonard to present it alone. But Leonard has no intentions of not going.

My Opinion: What did Penny have against Leonard's clothes? I thought they looked decent. ;) And while the remote controlling of the lamp and the stereo via Internet connection was really geeky I really liked it. It's that kind of thing that proves that every man has a child in him - and why should we be as serious as women?

The Loobenfeld Decay
Synopsis: Leonard makes up a lie to prevent him from going to a play in which Penny's starring. But Sheldon has the fear that she might see through it and constructs an entire lie web that sucks more and more people into it until it's un-unravelable.

My Opinion: I nearly fell off the couch when "Leo" suddenly sat in the kitchen and Sheldon and he discussed the "origin of his drug addiction". And the idea that he had to stay way longer to prevent the truth from coming out, it was great.

The Pancake Batter Anomaly
Synopsis: Alert: 'Condition Red'! Sound 'General Quarters'! Action Stations! Sheldon is sick! And while Leonard, Howard and Raj know exactly what that means and abandon ship, Penny has no idea and is on collision course with the iceberg.

My Opinion: I have to admit that Sheldon's constant whining became a bit annoying over the course of the episode. But I liked all the scenes where the three tried to avoid Sheldon at any cost.

The Jerusalem Duality
Synopsis: A 15-year-old north-korean boy starts to work at the university and he is smarter than Sheldon! With all hopes lost to ever win the Nobel Prize Sheldon finally gets interested in what the others do but for reasons unknown to him, he always has to "go away".

My Opinion: I liked the obnoxious Sheldon much better than the whiny one. But somehow I felt this was similar to The Luminous Fish Effect with Sheldon looking for new tasks. But the idea of moving Jerusalem to Mexico and the subsequent discussions about the Wailing Wall and the Promised Land were brilliant.

Disc 3

The Bat Jar Conjecture
Synopsis: The four are going to attend a science quiz - but not on the same team. Sheldon is leader of the "Army Ants" (AA), while Leonard, Raj, Howard and Leslie form the "Perpetual Motion Squad" (PMS). Let the best geek(s) win!

My Opinion: This was a great episode and I laughed a lot and the best parts were the janitor's 15 seconds of fame and Penny's very own quiz.

The Nerdvana Annihilation
Synopsis: Leonard wins an auction for a miniature time machine from the original The Time Machine. Unfortunately it's not that miniature, the scale is more like 1:1. But that proves his geekiness to Penny (again) and he's seeing it, too.

My Opinion: Another great episode. I liked all the time travel scenes, both real and imagined and I really liked how Leonard helped Penny to get down in the elevator shaft - even though it was only a dream.

The Pork Chop Indeterminacy
Synopsis: Sheldon's non-identical twin sister is in town and she's hot! And Rajesh becomes a test subject for a new drug to get rid of his shyness.

My Opinion: It was great to see how the three of them tried to hit on her. It was especially funny to watch Raj's attempts and him dealing with the side effects of the drug.

The Peanut Reaction
Synopsis: Leonard has never had a birthday party because his parents didn't think of it as a good concept. But now Penny's going to change that. Leonard is getting a surprise party, no matter the cost.

My Opinion: What was a funny element here - no service personnel in the store and one customer has to advice another - is a sad reality in Germany. And I admired to what lengths Howard was willing to go to prevent the surprise from being spoiled.

The Tangerine Factor
Synopsis: Penny has dumped yet another boyfriend and Leonard has the guts to ask her out. But when she has agreed, both aren't sure anymore whether this was actually a good idea. And there's only one way to find out: Schrödinger's cat.

My Opinion: This was a good conclusion to the season although it is quite obvious to me that something is going to happen at the date. After all, it's the cliffhanger and it's a sitcom. Ross and Rachel needed 10 years to finally make it. ;)
I really liked the different reactions to the Shröderinger's cat analogy. It pretty much summed it up what this year was about.

13. The Bat Jar Conjecture (2008-04-21)
Writer: Bill Prady, Robert Cohen, Stephen Engel, Jennifer Glickman
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Sara Gilbert (Leslie Winkle), Mark Harelik (Dr. Gablehauser), Adam Gregor (Dimitri), Sandra Marquez (Woman), Sergio Enrique (Son)

Great episode. Sheldon not wanting to win if it meant having to submit to team working. The beginning of the episodes are usually one of the best parts. This episode is no exception.

14. The Nerdvana Annihilation (2008-04-28)
Writer: Stephen Engel, Steven Molaro, Bill Prady
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Andrew Walker (Mike)

Another great episodes. Jokes about time tavel are always fun. But sometimes I am not sure if Sheldon knows that Star Trek isn't real

15. The Pork Chop Indeterminacy (2008-05-05)
Writer: Lee Aronsohn, Bill Prady, Chuck Lorre
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Courtney Henggeler (Missy)

A decent episode but nothing special.

16. The Peanut Reaction (2008-05-12)
Writer: Dave Goetsch, Steven Molaro, Bill Prady, Lee Aronsohn
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), Vernée Watson (Althea), Judith Moreland (Jan), Ronald Hunter (Dan), Chuck Carter (Stan)

An okay episode but nothing really funny.

17. The Tangerine Factor (2008-05-19)
Writer: Lee Aronsohn, Steven Molaro, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady
Director: Mark Cendrowski
Cast: Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter), Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali), James Hong (Chen)

More Sheldon = more fun.
Also now they got Penny and Leonard together, they can start season 2 by building up the break-up and then get to the real couple of the show: Penny and Sheldon ;)

I do the same thing! That's why I like to buy the DVD instead of watching TV shows as they air; plus I can't stand to watch commercials.

I know just what you mean about commercials.  They are so annoying.  And I do like being able to just..binge on a show when I'm in the mood for it.  Last week I watched the 11th season DVD of The Simpsons over 4 days.  When I got Bones back in May I watched the first season in about a day and a half - I didn't sleep much at that point. lol  A week or two later I watched the second season in about the same amount of time.

I really like getting tv shows on DVD now.
