Weekend Movie Marathon (http://www.userlife.co.za/Images/BlurayLogo.gif) The Blu-ray Experience
Here recently I been getting myself some Blu-ray discs... since thanks to my daughter getting a new player for when she goes off to college... my daughter gave me her blu-ray player... which thankfully easily hooks up to my standard TV. I have a nice little collection of Blu-ray collection starting to build. Mostly thanks to gifts and free upgrades to combo sets when making trades at a friend's store. So thought this was the perfect time to have such a marathon.
Best part about this weekend... I will get to watch these on an HDTV despite not having one yet. As I will be able to watch these in my daughter's room (she said she is on the laptop 90% of the time anyway!) on her's. See below for the list of films I have on BD.
My BD Collection: Titles in bold are ones I haven't watched yet. Note: I may have seen the movie before... but not since getting the disc.

Any recommendations from the above is appreciated... but no promises I will get to them this weekend. As I can only get to so many this weekend and a lot depends on my mood as well.

On my ordered list... I checked tracking and...
The Crazies (2010) - Very possible to get here in time. Was scanned a couple towns over from us late last night.
The Hunger Games - Very possible. Been expecting it any day now since the beginning of the week.
Jennifer's Body - Doubtful. It shipped but hasn't been scanned since the original shipment a couple days ago.
Let Me in - Good Chance. Last scanned a couple days ago. Was a couple states away from me. Scheduled Delivery tomorrow.
Pride and Glory - This one definitely won't make it in time as it hasn't even shipped yet.

My Thoughts:
It has been years since I seen this film! So watching it for the first time ever on Blu-ray was an extra treat. And I can say I saw such a difference right away! I have yet to see Terminator Salvation... but so far this is my favorite film in the franchise. I really liked the addition of the T-1000 with his liquid metal morphing abilities. I really enjoyed watching this one again... definitely recommended.

Funny you should watch this one as I've literally just watched the blu-ray for Terminator Salvation. I think you'll dig it - it gets an unfair amount of crap directed it, and although not as good as 1 or 2, it was a step in the right direction out of a slightly faltered 3rd. My scores for the series: T1 - 4.5/5 T2 - 5/5 T3 - 3.5/5 T4 - 4/5

Thanks... will probably watch Terminator Salvation later today.... depending on what (if anything) arrives in the mail today. Either way I am sure I will get to it before the weekend is over with. :thumbup:

The Strangers is already on my short list. The Avengers... I already seen it like 4 times... but maybe... love that movie! :P
As I said in the other thread... today I got The Crazies and The Hunger Games in the mail. So will probably get to those this weekend too. I am really curious about The Crazies.

Then you watch either that or 'The Strangers' i really enjoyed it! :) i watched The Strangers first on dvd, and blu afterwards. Great horror! And if i dont remember very wrong, isnt 'The Strangers' based on a true story?

My Thoughts:
For the next film I let my daughter pick the movie to watch... and this is the one she wanted to see. I found this to be a very good film. It easily kept my attention from beginning to the end. And I was pleasantly surprised to see an appearance by Donald Sutherland as President Snow. I always liked him. I would have liked to seen more hunting scenes... I kinda went into this one expecting to see more. I also found that while this is a rather long movie... it didn't feel like it while watching it. I would say this one is definitely worth checking out.

My Thoughts:
I been wanting to check this one out for a while now. I must say... I enjoyed it quite a bit. It kept my interest from the start. It has a good story and likable characters. I know this is a remake of an older film... and I have heard that it isn't really that similar... but I must admit... despite that I am curious about the original after seeing this one. If for no other reason then to see just how much it differs. This is worth checking out if you haven't yet.

Yes, yes we just watched The Avengers again! This is like my 6th time watching this film since it came out. Once at the theater... twice on DVD... and now 3 times on Blu-ray. But what can I say... I love this movie! Even after all these multiple viewings I still enjoyed every second of it! This movie is almost two and a half hours long... but it sure didn't feel like it while watching it! Everything moved quickly... it is quite action packed... and it has a plenty of laughs as well. Sure there was maybe a few jokes that fell flat for me... but for the most part I think Joss Whedon did an excellent job. As did the entire cast. I was a little concerned about Mark Ruffalo taking over the part of Bruce Banner... but I liked him in the role too. The Hulk is probably my favorite character in the film. He really stole the show. I couldn't recommend this one any higher.

My Thoughts:
Maybe I went into this one with too high of expectations... but while a decent film... I wasn't all that impressed with this one. One thing I found a little bothersome is the audio. the voices were lower then the rest of the sound effects in the film. So to hear everything I had to have it turned up pretty loud to her the (limited) talking in the film... which made everything else a bit on the loud side. Another problem I had was the fact that the video was overly dark. At times I couldn't tell what was going on in the scenes. Then there was the fact that the first part of the film wasn't that interesting so had a hard time keeping my attention on it. But once the home invasion happened it picked up... just as I said was a bit hard to understand/see everything going on. At least until morning hit. But by then the movie was almost over. All the this gave me a hard time on how to rate this film. I liked the subject matter... and there is good scenes in it. I guess I would have to go with...

Felt like some silly comedy this morning... so decided to pop this one in. If you ever seen any Three Stooges short you pretty much know what to expect going into this one. Just like the shorts it isn't the type I can watch often... but is fun when you are in the mood. I think they did a pretty good job on it. They cast the stooges well... and the storyline keeps your interest. Definitely worth checking out!

My Thoughts:
Yes... I just watched this film about 2 weeks ago... But that was on DVD on my laptop (so I could vidcap it for my DVD Profiler gallery). And with how I loved every moment of it then... I really wanted to watch the Blu-ray of it this weekend. And let me tell you... it is just as good the second time around! Other then that I will just repeat what I said the first time...
I found the movie itself to be simply amazing. Even more so considering it is based on a true story. I was drawn in from the very beginning... and it kept my complete attention till the very end. A real feel good movie. One I couldn't recommend high enough. An excellent story that is wonderfully done. I just finished this film... and I already feel like I could watch it again. If that isn't a sign of an excellent film... I don't know what is.

On the blu-ray of Dolphin Tale there is an animated short that is absolutely hilarious. Both Britt and I laughed all the way through it. It is called Ormie and the Cookie Jar. And I found it on youtube... check it out!

I decided to check this one out next. This is the first time I ever seen this film. Every since the very first movie I have always wanted to see more on the actual war with the machines. And now we have an entire movie that takes place in that time. I was wondering why the actor that played Kyle Reece in this film looked so familiar to me... turns out he played Charlie in the "Fright Night" remake. As for the movie itself. It is I enjoyed it quite a bit. There was a couple parts of the storyline I didn't care for as much as the rest of the film... but over-all I definitely enjoyed it... especially all the action scenes!

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this one quite a bit... but I was expecting more from it. I don't know... maybe I let the hype get to me a little too much. But since this is my second viewing of this film I doubt that. It has a pretty good story... but I would have liked to seen Batman on screen more then what we did. The way they did Bane in this one seemed a little odd to me as well. Not bad mind you... just odd. As for Anne Hathaway as Selina/Cat Woman... I didn't dislike her... but once again it seemed a little odd to me. But the question there is was it odd for me because of how I previously knew the character? Or was it odd for me because I have just recently watched Anne Hathaway play the princess in the Disney movie The Princess Diaries... and just seemed odd to me compared to that? I just don't know. This is one that is definitely worth checking out... just don't let the hype get to you. I would say it isn't my favorite in the franchise... but it is still well worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:
This is my second time seeing this movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It held up pretty well on the second viewing. The storyline remains interesting and I like all the characters. I also liked the creature design and the effects in this one. If you never seen this film... give it a chance... I found it well worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:
I have been waiting for this one to arrive since I found out I was getting it! This is a film I used to love when I was a teen (I am 44 now). And I haven't seen it since I was a teen! Going into this one, I must admit, I was a little concerned that the film wouldn't live up to my memories. But I do love '80s horror... it is my favorite decade for the genre. I got to say.... I so enjoyed watching this film again! While I may have built it up a little with my memories.... for the most part it lived up to them. The characters are a lot of fun. Story keeps your interest from beginning to end. And the make-up effects are good too. And what I like about this blu-ray release... it has both the director's cut ending as well as the theatrical release ending... which kept the ending open to a possible sequel. I highly recommend adding this one to your collection! I had a blast watching this one again after more years then I care to calculate.

My Rating:
I just rewatched this last weekend and liked it much better than during my first viewing at the cinema. The fact that Batman only shows up 45min late and then disappears again for a while 30min later didn't bother me. The action in those 30min very well made up for it and the stuff with Bruce Wayne and everyone was holding my attention very well.
Of course, the ending still bothered me in the same way as before...

Once the timer is at 5min and down is not executed believably and then there is the whole "how/when did he get out".
Read an interesting comment the other day; hope this wasn't already discussed here: Selina asks Batman about coming back or something and he says "No autopilot." Or did he, maybe he said "No, autopilot."...? Also, by the dialog he intended to get out "past the bridge". It is not shown whether he had even a chance to get out.

This is a film I never even heard of before getting the disc. But I have been a fan of Ryan Reynolds for some time now... so looked forward to checking it out. I found it odd... but strangely entertaining that the entire film takes place in the coffin with Ryan Reynold's character. Of course you hear others on the phone... but that is basically it. I am sure there is other films like this where you only ever see one character on screen.... but none come to my mind that I have seen. So this is really something different for me. There is lots of suspense through-out the film. Definitely worth checking out.

This is the first time I ever seen this one. Though I have heard a lot of great things about it. So I was hoping going into this one that I wouldn't be disappointed due to all they hype I have read. But thankfully that wasn't the case. I found I enjoyed this one very much. It is at a slower pace then I am normally used to... but that really works with this storyline. I liked the way this movie handled entering a home without an invite. An idea I never seen before... as the way I normally see it the vampire just cannot enter... like there is an invisible force field in the way. So I got to see something I never seen in a vampire movie before... and with all the vampire movies I ever seen... that is saying a lot. This is one I definitely recommend... if you never seen it... give it a chance!

Oh man .. i am really glad you like it. Sometimes when I want to recommend a film I don't know if it will work or not ... personality differences, watching lists etc. And, "Let the Right One In" is definitely not your average film. Lots of under tones etc and sometimes this just doesn't work for some. Hope you like "Let Me In" also. It is a little faster pace.

OK. I have to say... I liked this one too. It is basically the same story. I would say I like them both about the same amount. The original is stronger in some areas where this remake is stronger in other areas. I think the original did better with conveying the storyline. But I think the remake just had better effects... and was more graphic which I liked. So when all is said and done... I am thrilled I have both of them in my collection now.

I have seen this one before... on DVD. But this is the first time seeing it on Blu-ray. And even after a second viewing this movie is nothing less then amazing! I absolutely loved every moment of it. Hit-Girl stole the show... best character in the entire movie. Brittany said it right when she told me not to confuse this with a superhero movie... it really isn't one. It is actually a vigilante movie that just happens to use superhero costumes as a gimmick. If by any chance you haven't seen this one yet.... it is one I highly recommend... see it as soon as possible... you won't be sorry!

Though I doubt I will do any Christmas titles this time of the year. I am really hoping either The Karate Kid or Deadline will make it here in time for this weekend. As I would like to watch those both when they arrive.

Of those you haven't seen I only know Harry Potter. That one obviously makes no sense to be watched out of sequence.
I"d be curious about The Box. That seems more like it should be a short film or something like a Twilight Zone episode (which I may have been in the past), not a feature length film.

I would suggest watching them in order. I find interesting the progression of the stories, characters and all the improvements of filming/production and acting. Hard to tell why someone is doing something if you don't know their motivation. Having said that I think most of the films can stand on their own ... with the later films being better overall.

I decided to watch this one today in honor of Sandra Bullock's birthday. As most of you know... I am a huge fan of hers. Though she doesn't have a huge part in this film... as most the film follows around their son. While I found this to be a very good film. It is also very slow. And I did feel my attention to go elsewhere at times. But it kept my attention for the most part. It is definitely one I think is worth checking out.

My Thoughts:
This is the second time I seen this film... once when it was first released and then now. Was a remake needed? No... but I am always willing to give any film a chance. I won't not watch a film just because it is a remake. Why would I? I could be missing an enjoyable movie... and even if it sucks... that don't take away from the original. In this case I think it is more of a re-imaging then it is a remake. They change enough of it to make it a different movie... but keep enough of the story the same to pay a good homage to the original. It is a fine line to walk... but I think this film did a good job at it. I have seen people complain about Jaden Smith.... and how he is in movies do to his famous father. But even if that is the reason he is there... that don't take away from his talent as I feel he did a fine job. This is the first thing I ever seen him in... but I did enjoy watching him. I thought Jackie Chan as Mr. Han was great. It did seem he played this one a little more seriously. But that is a good thing... the role called for it. If there was a character I didn't care for... I would have to say it was Dre's mother. She seemed a little out there to me personally. But I even liked her too... just my least favorite of the main characters. Over-all it is a very good, entertaining movie. Well worth the time put in to watch it. I am thrilled I finally got it in my collection.

I tried to get this one watched yesterday... but real life was against me getting through even a single movie yesterday. So when I woke up so early in the morning (like 3am) I decided I was going to get it watched! When I first found out I was getting this film I asked some friends about it... the ones that seen it didn't have too much good to say about it. Basically hearing it was no more then an average film. So I didn't go into it with too high of expectations. Even with that... I found I agreed. No more then average. I found the story itself to unfold a little slow for my taste. But the storyline was interesting enough to keep me watching. And when it was over I found I still had some questions that I wasn't sure about by watching the film. So afterward I watched the making of documentary to see if I could get some answers... and I did... sort of. Basically it was the filmmaker's point not to answer all the questions... that he wanted the viewers to draw their own opinion of what was being told. So the answer is whatever you believe it to be. Over-all a decent way to waste an hour and a half. One I can see myself watching again. But not one I would watch very frequently.

My Thoughts:
This is a film been wanting to check out since I first found out it was being made. But this is the first time I got the chance to see it. I never watched the original series this film is based on... or read any comics (was there Green Hornet Comics?)... so I know very little of the mythology of The Green Hornet. But that could work for the better since I have nothing to compare it with I have a better chance of enjoying it... right? After watching it I found there was things I liked and things I didn't like. I thought for the most part it had some great action. And I liked Cameron Diaz as Britt's secretary. As well as thought Kato was just plain cool. As for what I didn't care for.... I didn't like when about to fight the red outline zeroing in on the weapons and people. I felt this took away from my enjoyment some. Then I also thought that most the comedy they tried really didn't work for me either. But over-all I really enjoyed this one... glad I finally got the chance to watch it.

Yes, there was a Green Hornet comic, and yes, you were probably better off not having read it or seen the series.

Yeah .. The Green Hornet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_green_hornet) has been around for quite a while .. mid 30's i think. Never one of my favorites but bet the serial was pretty good in the day. The current film seemed like the take they did of batman in the 60's. Very camp

I agree .. it was campy but in a basic 60's way. It was fun and exciting
