Within My Lifetime Marathon
Last year I attempted this marathon and it was a complete and total failure! I think part of what happen was psyching myself out by trying to do both movies and TV show pilots. So this time I am going back to just movies spanning from 1969 to 2016. If any movies from other marathons I am doing also works for this marathon it will count for both marathons and I will provide a link in this one to the other thread.

Hopefully this way I will actually complete the marathon this year... wish me luck!

My Thoughts:

I been wanting to see this one every since I first heard they were making a sequel.... as I enjoyed the first one so much. And I must say... while I enjoy the first one a little more... I really liked this one as well. Lots of laugh out loud moments with many (if not all) the characters from the first movie. I can see myself watching a Hotel Transylvania double feature often! It is a must see if you liked the fist one.

My Thoughts:

We watched this one last night. Before then I never even knew of this version of the film. I must say I enjoyed it quite a bit. The film looked great and the cast did a really good job. The story kept my interest with ease. This is one I would recommend seeing.

Uproariously funny!" (Thelma Adams, US WEEKLY).

My Thoughts:

Friends has been recommending this film to me for years... and I finally got around to watching it. I found the movie to be entertaining to say the least, There is a lot of funny stuff here. Some of it on the silly side but that was to be expected going in,,, and it wasn't overly so, It did surprise me a bit to see some graphic violence here... and even that was done in a funny way. Definitely worth checking out if you never seen it. Can easily see myself watching it again.

Stars:
Thomas Gibson as Mitch Benson
Nancy McKeon as Amy Harkin
Chandra West as Rebecca Kerns
Brian Markinson as Chris Haywood
Nancy Sakovich as Jane Benson

Plot:
Nature strikes out with unfathomable fury as the unimaginable becomes a terrifying reality. Three twisters descend upon Las Vegas leaving a neon wasteland in their wake. Hurricanes tear through the Gulf Coast without warning. Record-high temperatures scorch the northeast. One-hundred-mile-an-hour winds tear across the south. Lightning storms ignite the sky. Wildfires blaze out of control. For Amy Harkin, a budding Chicago anchorwoman looking for her big break, the fear of these weather anomalies is second only to the dread of the inevitable repercussions: rolling coast-to-coast blackouts and the dwindling sources needed to revive them. With the worst power breakdown on record looming, an overload could cripple the nation and leave the entire population in the dark, without communication and vulnerable to unthinkable dangers.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is a TV miniseries... and as it is with most tv movies and miniseries there is some familiar faces from other Television shows in it. In this case we have Thomas Gibson (Dharma & Greg) and Nancy McKdon (The Facts of Life). It is a good story and I definitely enjoyed it. But that being said it could definitely been better. I found that while some of the storm effects were cool... others was really lacking. I also found I just didn't care about some of the characters. But over all it is worth the watch. This one did get a sequel miniseries (Category 7: End of the World) which I enjoyed even more then this one.

Deadpool
This is the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

My Thoughts:
First of all let me say this one is not for the younger crowd. From what I understand if it wasn't for a few cuts here and there it would have gotten an NC-17... but they trimmed it down to get a (hard) R rating. That being said... I loved this film! while I have seen him before... I never really been that familiar with the character. So I don't know how well he was done compared to the comics... but they made him a great character here. Loved the action.... loved the violence... loved his sense of humor. It is definitely worth the time put in to watch it! Highly recommended!

I saw Deadpool last week and quite enjoyed it myself. Noticing some superhero fatigue on my part, I was not blown away by it, but it was a very strong film in the genre. I also did not Deadpool before, other than the basic premise (self-aware comic book character).

From what I understand if it wasn't for a few cuts here and there it would have gotten an NC-17... but they trimmed it down to get a (hard) R rating.
I was not aware of this. Assuming you are right, I really hope for an unrated Blu-ray...

Stars:
Mel Brooks as Moses / Comicus / Torquemada
Mel Brooks as Jacques / King Louis XVI
Dom DeLuise as Emperor Nero
Madeline Kahn as Empress Nympho
Harvey Korman as Count de Monet

Plot:
Mel Brooks' uproarious version of history proves that nothing is sacred as he takes us on a laugh-filled look at what really happened throughout time. His delirious romp features everything from a wild send-up of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey to the real stories behind the Roman Empire (Brooks portrays a stand-up philosopher at Caesar's Palace), the French Revolution (Brooks reigns as King Louis XVI) and the Spanish Inquisition (a splashy song-and-dance number with monks and swimming nuns). It's Mel and company at their hilarious best.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

It has been such a very long time since I seen this film. All I remembered was that I enjoyed it when I was a teen. And that remains true today. Lots to laugh at... and a good handful of actors that I haven't seen in ages. This is definitely worth a re-watch... if for no other reason then to remind yourself why "It's good to be the king!"

Heart-pounding and graphic, this action-packed film pits FBI agent Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe) against a pair of Irish brothers (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus) out to rid the world of evil – starting with the Russian mob. But as the brothers brutally take on Boston's underworld, Smecker finds himself torn between busting the vigilantes...and joining them!

Extras:

My Thoughts:

I must say... I really enjoyed this one. Lots of great action and a really good story to go along with it, Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus did a wonderful job as the MacManus brothers and Willem Dafoe did a great job as well in a roll much different then I ever seen him in before. And I must say he (as well as all the cast) looked like they had a real blast with this one. This is one film I will be recommending to my friends and family. Now I just need to add part 2 to my collection to go along with this one. Hopefully sooner rather then later!

Kenneth McMillan as Cressner

Plot:
A wandering supernatural feline's adventures provide the linking story for Stephen King's Cat's Eye, a dead on trilogy scripted by King and directed by Lewis Teague (Cujo, The Jewel of the Nile). First up: the staff at Quitters Inc. promises to help nicotine fiend Dick Morrison (James Woods) kick the habit. If not, someone in Morrison's household might get smoked... because QI is run by a very persuasive mob family. Next comes a cliffhanger. Or a ledgehanger. Either way, a luckless gambler (Robert Hays) is forced into a bet involving a stroll around the building – on the five inch ledge encircling the 30th floor. Finally, our wayfarer kitty rescues a schoolgirl (young Drew Barrymore) from a vile, doll-sized troll. Meowvelous!

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is one of the first Anthology movies I ever seen... and one of my favorites. In my opinion a real horror classic! I loved how the cat in the beginning of the movie is shown running past other Stephen King greats... like.. seeing the cat getting scared by Cujo coming out from behind a fence and almost getting run over by Christine. At one point they also show a couple of the characters watching The Dead Zone on TV. This Anthology had 3 stories to it... and in this case I really enjoyed all 3 of them. I definitely recommend this one.

Stars:

Ryan Phillippe as Barry Cox

Plot:
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar star with Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Johnny Galecki in this terrifying tale of a body that just won't stay dead.

After an accident on a winding road, four teens make the fatal mistake of dumping their victim's body into the sea. Exactly one year later, the dead man returns from his watery grave, and he's looking for more than an apology.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This one is not what I would call a favorite... but I do enjoy it now and again. Even though this is little more then an entertaining teen slasher... I do enjoy seeing the familiar faces. Just to name a few we have one of my all-time favorites Jennifer Love Hewitt who I absolutely adored in Ghost Whisperer, then there was Sarah Michelle Gellar who was of course Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then there was Johnny Galecki who was in Roseanne and is currently starring in The Big Bang Theory. But as I was saying... over all not a terrible horror. It is entertaining for what it is... but don't go into this one with too high of expectations.

Under Joel Schumacher's direction, a marvelous cast – Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Barnard Hughes, Edward Herrmann and Dianne Wiest – stakes you to gleefully ghoulish entertainment.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is one I actually upgraded from the DVD... as it is one of my favorite vampire films. It is one I have seen countless times...one that I never tire of. This movie is the first thing I ever seen Keifer Sutherland in... and I think he did an awesome job in it. I also think Jason Patric did a great job as Michael. and I definitely couldn't help but to enjoy the Old Fart (Grandpa)... I just get such a kick out of him and all the stuffed animals he gave to Sam. Definitely one I would highly recommend to any horror fan... especially vampire fans. Though I do believe most all horror fans probably seen this one by now!

Plot:
In this modern fairy-tale film directed by Tim Burton, Edward (Johnny Depp) is a gentle, naive creation with razor-sharp scissors for hands. When he is taken home by a kindly Avon lady (Dianne Wiest) to live with her family, his adventure in the pastel paradise of Suburbia begins!

Extras:

My Thoughts:

It has been quite a while since I seen this one... but been wanting to every since upgrading to the blu-ray a couple months ago. Being a Tim Burton film it is definitely a little on the different side... but in a good way. I think Johnny Depp did a fantastic job in the title role... really so did the entire cast. Which has many familiar faces. In my opinion this one must be seen at least once. So definitely recommended.

My Thoughts:

Much like the first film... this one is a lot of mindless fun. Though I do think the first one is a little better. I just don't think the over-all story line was quite as good. It was still good to see these two together.... as they make a good team. Definitely recommended... especially if you liked the first one.

My Thoughts:

This is, of course, the one that started it all. Definitely a classic when it comes to horror. I feel it is a good movie... definitely worth watching... but I have seen better. Plot:
Jane's mom (Stockard Channing) assumes her daughter is just like every other sixteen-year-old girl - a little confused about growing up. Jane (Ellen Muth) figures her mom is just like every other mom - a little too protective, but loving. They figure they have a good relationship, until Jane falls in love with the new girl at school. Jane knows she is gay but her mom is completely unwilling to accept this fact. Their mother-daughter relationship is broken unless they can find a way to remember how much they love each other.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

I felt that they did a wonderful job with this film. It felt realistic and I must say it broke my heart (and kinda pissed me off) seeing how much trouble the mother had accepting the idea her daughter is a lesbian. To me a parent should be , happy and safe. Sure it means they are going to have a tougher time in life. I am not blind... I can see that. But it is a parent's job to help their child through the tough times in their lives...not add to them. Anyway, I enjoyed every moment of this movie. Despite it being pure drama (not a favorite genre). Well worth the time put in to watch it.

Unable to deal with Phoenix's brutal 1990s style, officials seek an old-fashioned cop to fight old-fashioned crime. They revive Sgt. John Spartan (Stallone), unjustly serving a CryoPrison sentence because of his last encounter with Phoenix. Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt and Denis Leary also play rough and tough in this "terrific mix of action and humor" (Joel Siegel, Good Morning America/ABC-TV).

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is the first movie I became aware of Sandra Bullock in. To me this is just a fun movie... it is a good mixture of comedy and action. A movie I have enjoyed watching countless times. Sure it is far fetched... pretty much have to suspend believability... but I think as long as you can do that you can definitely enjoy this movie. I thought Sandra Bullock was hilarious in this movie... but of course Stallone and Snipes were also good.

Plot:
In a small woodsy Oregon town, a group of friends – sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough-guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O'Connell) – are in search of a missing teenager's body. Wanting to be heroes in each other's and their hometown's eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss 'cause it's cool, and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town's knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had. STAND BY ME is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experiences of growing up. Filled with humor and suspense, it is based on the novella "The Body" by Stephen King.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This movie reminds me a bit of my childhood. A simpler time. A time when you could go out and play... exploring the neighborhood without your parents having to worry where you are every minute of the day. Something that just don't seem to exist anymore. Though the setting of this movie is well before my time... it still made me think of the simpler times when I was at that age. So much has changed since then. Unfortunately not for the better. The movie is a really good drama with just enough lightheartedness to off set it from becoming to dramatic. I especially got a kick out of when the kids out on their adventure had to cross through a lake in the woods. Coming out the other side discovering they were covered in leaches. This is definitely a film I would recommend... well worth the time put in to watch it.

Featuring superb performances by Dabney Coleman and Barry Corbin, WarGames™ is "brilliant...funny...and provocative" (New York) – a fast-paced cyber-thriller.

Computer hacker David Lightman (Broderick) can bypass the most advanced security systems, break the most intricate secret codes and master even the most difficult computer games. But when he unwittingly taps into the Defense Department's war computer, he initiates a confrontation of global proportions – World War III! Together with his girlfriend (Sheedy) and a wizardly computer genius (Tony Award winner John Wood), David must race against time to outwit his opponent...and prevent a nuclear Armageddon.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is a film I haven't watched in several years. While the computer equipment really shows the age of this film... it didn't take too much away from the storyline. I never really noticed it when I watched this film when I was younger... but David really knew how to do things that a high school student shouldn't know how to do. So with this one you really have to suspend disbelief... but I still really liked the story line. I also had a little problem with Dabney Coleman... as I never been a fan of his. There is just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. On the other hand I always liked Ally Sheedy so it was fun seeing her in one of her earlier roles again. Anyway I really liked this one... possibly more then I should. Definitely worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:

I had some hope for a decent movie when I pulled this one out... as it had a couple decent actors in it. But unfortunately they really had nothing to work with here. It is a story line that had potential.. but they just ruin what interesting story line they had with unwanted and unneeded narration. Most the time basically telling us what we already know by watching the picture on the screen. The writing was off for this film... it felt like we were watching a '50s Sci-Fi film made in the mid '70s! This film is only about 70 minutes... and I had a hard time making it through it. First I was fighting off falling asleep. Then I found myself more interested in looking at facebook on my phone then I was the TV screen. Don't bother with this one!
