Title: DVDP Next Version Sneak Peaks...
Post by: addicted2dvd on April 25, 2012, 09:57:01 PM
Ken posted some sneak peeks of the next version in THIS THREAD (http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=598689)... so far he announced...

Earlier:
- Better comparison screen
- Longer text fields

Today I asked for another sneak peek. He acted like he didn't want to give out another hint... but if he didn't he wouldn't have. We all know that!

Today:
- multiple CoO
- Locks
-  2 Buttons on the Edition field (no idea what they are yet)
- Automatically Lock changed Items check box at bottom of edit screen.

and a hint (without seeing)...
- Changed of "Features" to "Features & Formats"

The Lock buttons in the edit screen reminds me of CCViewer 3  :tease:

I think this is only because of missing space on General Information tab, he moved the video formats to the Features tab.

yeah... this is true. But there was hints he is doing something with 3D... maybe it is in Formats as well?

Any ideas what the buttons next to edition field is?

The left one looks like an edit button. I'd say you can edit the values that are in the dropdown per default (like when you are a big Criterion collector).

No clue abou the "home" button though.

Ken answered...

The left button is 'Show standard editions list' and the right is 'Show all editions from collection'.  These control the content of the drop-down (and auto-complete) list.

Looks like we will be able to show for Color/B&W/Etc.

Ken posted:
Ah yes, formats (NTSC/PAL and aspect ratio fields) have been moved into the features/formats tab to make room for the new format settings (color and dimensions).

For those that don't go there much/any more... the new beta is released today!

I never do beta test... the risk of causing trouble with my online collection presentation are too high.

Thanks Pete.

I used to beta test more, but have not so much fun with it anymore these days. I certainly would not install this straight over my "production database", just like Jimmy pointed out. Ken's code is usually pre/alpha-tested, I think, but once or twice database breaking bugs made it into the beta. Usually I trust his release candidates, although still some risk is involved.

So, he released it like 11pm his trime...?

You can install the beta in parallell with the released version, with separate database and settings, so there is no risk.

Maybe but I don't see the point of doing everything in double...

Maybe you don't, but that's a totally different reason for not installing the beta.

The main reason for doing beta testing is to help insure that bugs are found before the final release. So beta testing actually reduces the risk of having a release version that does something unwanted to your collection.

Another reason for installing a beta is of course to satisfy ones curiosity.

Curiosity? Bah.  If I can wait years before finally seeing a movie that I was originally interested in possibly seeing when it was in the theaters, I have no problem waiting for the final release of Profiler to come out.

Actually, there is only one "fix" that I am interested in that was likely still not made. I don't really feel like beta testing this version, so that would be my only reason to install. It's not worth it, so I'll wait.

Obviously it's up to each user if he/she wants to beta test.
I'm just advocating an informed choice.  8)

There was another beta build released last night...

Jimmy...
It may not matter to you... but if you are anything like me you will like the new feature in this build.... called "My Links" just like the links page on the site... but works locally so we can have links the trailer button and such work with our manual profiles. :)

Any idea if a link appear when we use our own online system as I do? Maybe the question is evident but since I don't use the DVDP database at all I've no idea of how the actual system works...

This link system is built right into the program... don't have to worry about the online at all. And if used they still work the buttons. Like right now I am adding youtube trailers to all my manual profiles that I can find. The online don't matter one way or the other. These custom links are for adding to manual profiles or overriding the online links. For example you don't like the trailer/video clip used online you can use your own locally instead of the online one.

One thing I am thinking of doing... adding a link to the reviews I do here.

Not mine

At one point I tried to use the note area to do that but I gave up... too much works to rewrote them trying to keep a readable format.

Oh... it don't show the page in profiler itself. It shows as a link and then opens in your default browser. The only thing that actually shows up in the program is the trailer. And then you have the option to make it a regular link as well (in case of more then one clip/trailer in the links page).
