Title: Horror/Halloween Marathon 2023
Post by: addicted2dvd on September 16, 2023, 02:25:17 AM
Horror/Halloween Marathon 2023
I decided to start early this year so that means I have 46 days to see how many horror, comedy-horror or Halloween specials I get in this year! I am not saying I will get something in every single day... but I will do my best. Whether it is from my extensive DVD/Blu-ray/4K collection, streaming or borrowed from the library I want to at least try to watch at least one thing each day. Here's hoping! As for a total... Who knows what I will get. But I would love to top my best since keeping track.... and according to letterboxd that would be 114 from 2021.

Horror/Halloween Marathon 2023 Count: 35

My Thoughts:

I must say... I really had a good time watching this film. It has great atmosphere and all the visuals was done beautifully. The ghosts in this film was done a bit differently then I have ever seen before... at first I wasn't sure how I felt about it but by the end of the film I decided yes it was different but I liked it. Also without giving too much away I must say this one is more then just a ghost film. And it is one that easily keeps your attention through-out the entire story. I feel comfortable recommending this one.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

A film that puts two of my favorite genres together.... horror and superhero films. I liked it quite a bit... it is definitely a fun watch. and had some pretty cool kills in it as well. I am happy with the way they ended it as well. There are a couple names here I recognized but not all that familiar with. But they all did a fine job. For those that are bothered by it there is a nice amount of gore in this film. Especially if you have a problem with anything dealing with the eyeball one scene may be a bit hard to watch. Overall, I had a great time watching this one. highly recommended.

Along with a former child star turned family theme park ringmaster (Steven Yeun) who neighbors the siblings, the pair's efforts to chase the spectacle soon bring terrifying consequences and unimaginable horror. The result is a complex social thriller that unpacks the seeds of violence, risk and opportunism that are inseparable from the romanticized history of the American West … and from show business itself.

*2017 Best Original Screenplay, Get Out.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

I found this one to be to slow for my taste. I had to fight off falling asleep on this film. To be honest I didn't find anything about this film to be scary... don't even think I would consider it a horror movie. I normally like Jordan Peele's venture out into the horror genre, but this time... Nope.

Plot:
The terrifying tale by Stephen King is also a beloved adaptation of the best-selling author's work. Newly remastered in 4K for its 30th Anniversary, Pet Sematary follows the tragic story of the Creed family. After their cat is accidentally killed, a friendly neighbor advises its bural in a mysterious nearby cemetery. When the cat comes back, it's only the beginning of an unthinkable evil leading to hell and back. Sometimes, so it seems, dead is better.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This has been one of my favorites for years. I been a big fan of Stephen King for a many years... I am also a fan of Denise Crosby. It was also fun to see Fred Gwynne as well. So both the writing and the cast is a plus for me. The atmosphere here is excellent. The story line is very good. While Louis is obviously a smart man what with him being a doctor and all... this story shows time and time again he is not a very wise man. He seems to lose himself more and more as the story goes on. This is definitely a film I would recommend... well worth the time put in to watch it!

I have even seen it (or part of it). It must have been in the 90s. I remember, that I knew Denise Crosby from Star Trek TNG and Dale Midkiff from Time Trax.
But I don't have it in my collection though.

I recently rewatched Shawshank Redemption. Does that count? :tease:

As Peter's fear intensifies, he believes that his parents (Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr) could be hiding a terrible, dangerous secret and questions their trust. And for a child, what could be more frightening than that?

My Thoughts:

This is another film I found at the library. While a decent film nothing I found great. Towards the middle I found myself getting a little on the bored side. The story while I wouldn't exactly say predictable, I also wouldn't say exciting. I wouldn't be completely against adding this one to my collection, but I would have to find it really on the cheap side.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is the first time I watched this movie in quite a while. This is a bit of a weird movie, I grant you... but it is one that I enjoyed quite a bit. The couple in this movie is so over the top it isn't even funny. But it is entertaining to say the least. I really liked the kid that played the 13yr old boy nicknamed Fool that takes on this strange and sadistic couple to save his family... and then going back to save the other kids he met that the couple has trapped in the house. This is not what I would call a gory movie... but some of the things seen here is a bit on the bloody side. Not to mention things a little hard to look at... like "Daddy" in full leather fetish gear trying to hunt down Fool. Over-all it is a movie I enjoyed quite a bit. Glad I finally got around to watching it again.

This blu-ray release makes for a nice upgrade... especially considering there was no extras what so ever on the DVD release.

If she can't, she will be stuck in an insane loop, reliving a ghoulish nightmare that has become her death day.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This film was a pleasant surprise for me. While I have always liked time loop movies (Groundhog Day, etc.) I was a little nervous about this one going just by the trailer. After watching it I found that I liked the characters, the storyline kept my interest and last but not least they killed her off in some creative ways. I can easily see myself watching this one again. Definitely feel coffinite recommending this one.

My Thoughts:

This was a good sequel. I liked how it continued right from the first one. I also liked how it gave the explanation for the time loops. Another thing that I like is that the film doesn't take itself too seriously and does have fun with itself. This movie is the first thing I ever seen Kiefer Sutherland in... and I think he did an awesome job in it. I also think Jason Patric did a great job as Michael. and I definitely couldn't help but to enjoy the Old Fart (Grandpa)... I just get such a kick out of him and all the stuffed animals he gave to Sam. Definitely one I would highly recommend to any horror fan... especially vampire fans. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I have heard both good and bad about this movie... and thankfully I have to agree with those that liked it. Sure some of the stuff I seen in many ghost stories... but there was also stuff I seen in this movie for the very first time. There was a couple things that did bother me about the story. But over all I really enjoyed this one. The actor playing the ill son looked very familiar to me... but I just couldn't place where I knew him from... so after the movie I checked his filmography. Turns out I knew him from 2 different shows. He played Beaver on Veronica Mars and he also played Bart Allen (The Flash) on a couple episodes of Smallville. I would recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys ghost stories.

I also liked how they made it a completely seperate story compared to the first one... and not some type of continuation of the same family or house or what have you. The movie is well worth the time put in to watch it. Recommended.

Ok for a low budget horror film, but not one I see myself watching often. It is one of those that leaves the kills to the imagination. Of course, much like All Hallow's Eve, the gore is beyond excessive. I myself don't mind excessive gore but think the warning should be there for those who do. This movie proved that Art the Clown is anything but human. Which makes me want to know more about him. Makes me wonder if there is any back story on him in Terrifier 2. But alas I don't have that one.

Theater Visit
Exorcist: Believer (2023)

Plot:
DO YOU BELIEVE?
Since the death of his wife 12 years ago, Victor Fielding has raised their daughter, Angela on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

My Thoughts:
I been wanting to see this since the first trailer I seen. I was so happy when my friend invited me to go see it with her! While I would say i still prefer the original film, this one comes close! i felt the story was great, cast did a fantastic job and the effects were amazing. I really loved every minute of it! And this is coming from someone who grew up watching the original film. I do think the beginning before the possession of the girls was a bit on the slow side, but once the possession took hold I was on the edge of my seat. And i must say I loved the very last scene of the film!

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This one is a different type of vampire movie. This film shows if they were to work together and were able to take over the world. Would we be able to take control of the world back? I enjoyed this one. Yes, it is a low budget film, but I liked what they did with what they had. Enjoyable... worth the time put in to watch it.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

This is, of course, the one that started it all. Definitely a classic when it comes to horror. I feel it is a good movie... definitely worth watching... but I have seen better. I really liked the character of Alice in this one. For some reason I keep forgetting there is a young Kevin Bacon in this movie until I watch it again.

Cool to see you always do it after all those years

No physical release yet but it's a film a friend of mine did and I was a backer (my first film credit ).

The film isn't perfect but it isn't bad at all, so if you feel like it it's streaming on Tubi...

BTW long time no see... who is always always here?

Nice to hear from you, Jimmy. Currently I feel very lonely here. Pete sometimes pops in now, which is great :)
First I was very absent because I had hardly time for DVDs/Blu-rays. And now that I am back more regularly, Karsten has lost interest. So it has gotten very very quiet here.

I am so far behind on writing the reviews... doubt I will catch up now. I am up to 50 movies watched... just can't catch up with writing the reviews!
