Illusion-O glasses

My Thoughts:
Yes, I swiped dad's formatting from the profiler, but his is better!!! :P

Speaking of swiping, watching this whole movie again, which I have seen numerous times since I was a little kid, reminded me that there were a pair of Illusion-O glasses that would help you see the ghosts, but as little kids often do---I wrecked them.  :( I am so regreting it now. I was struggling to much to see the details, I caught myself saying, "Where are the glasses???"

I haven't seen this in a long time, like, I remembered the ghosts. But I also remembered Ben as such a swell guy. A real sweetie. Now that I'm older, I can understand more, and I saw how he was really portrayed.

(click to show/hide)

I gotta admit, even with this being in black and white, which to me always takes away from how real it feels, all the ghosts and moans I admit gives me the creeps. (Just a LITTLE but it does.) Very nice work! Especially for the time! 1960? Not bad! ;)

My Thoughts:

I remember when I first saw this. It was another version, but still close. I saw it at school never did finish it.

I always did like to see this. Maybe around Christmas time. I also always like a good musical, but I suppose my father would disagree on the matter. One thing I don't like it how many songs. Like I said, I love it being a musical, and I LOVE "Hard Knock Life", "Easy Street" and "Little Girls", so my question is.....are the rest really nessicary? Ok, yeah, I know the answer to that: part of the magic, blah blah blah. I may like music, but you get tired after a little while.

Still, it was very enjoyable.

My Thoughts: Well, it was enjoyable......alot to the point that I made my dad suffer through it with me.

Still, It's been a while since I watched this, and I"ve forgotten just how girly it is. While I admit I LOVED Bratz a couple years ago, my eyes have opened. The girl thing is just over the top. And this is coming from a girl. I mean, it was tolerable, and I like the teenage-girl angle and point of view in these movies, it just could have been done better. The secret-agent acvtion stuff was a good twist to the movie too.

It makes me wanna see Bratz Rock Angelz again and remember that horrible ex-boss of Jade's, Birdeen Maxwell. That movie is also where the secret agent thing started, so I think after the marathon I'll dig that up again.

My Thoughts:

I've seen this a few times befoire, and anyone who knows me on here knows I'm all about the supers! I still can't help but feel that if there's a Catwoman, then there should be a Batman. That didn't stop me from liking this. There is just something udescribable about this movie. I guess I just love the idea of total freedom......that and evil make-up. I never did goop up my face like that.

My Thoughts:

I've had this for I'm not sure how long, but never watched it, so this is a first-time viewing. Not much to say here except it was really slow and hard to get into in the begining, and alot of this movie is very predictable. Still, it ended in a heart-tugger and it was kinda fun.

More a generalisation. Your Dad can be relied upon to find something good in even the most terrible films! Which is a good thing, but he will always get his leg pulled about it... ;)

I usually like most superhero movies..or movies with comic book characters in them.  But Catwoman is one of the few that I don't like.  The idea behind the plot is interesting, but this isn't Catwoman...that is Selina Kyle and Batman should be around or at least mentioned.  Berry's characters is just a generic catwoman.

Plot:
If you liked 'Aladdin', you'll love Disney's 'The Emperor's New Groove', where outrageous comedy rules! Audiences and critics alike raved about this hilarious animated adventure: Ebert & Roeper And The Movies gave it "Two Thumbs Up."

Faster than you can say "boom, baby," arrogant Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) is turned into a llama by his devious advisor, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), and her hunky henchman, Kronk (Patrick Warburton), who want to rid the kingdom of this beast of burden. Now the ruler who once had it all must form an unlikely alliance with a pleasant peasant named Pacha (John Goodman). Together, Kuzco and Pacha must overcome their differences as they embark on a hilarious, "groovy" adventure that will have you howling with laughter.

There's something for everyone in this "hip, funny movie" (Gannett News Service) with its dynamo cast, distinctive style and great music - featuring the Academy Award®-nominated song, "My Funny Friend And Me" - all fully captured in state of the art quality created directly from the digital source, which ensures the best possible sound and picture!

It was just as fun as I remembered it. All I can say, really, is that it was alot better than the series. Although, John Goodman being Pacha was odd for me, cuz every time I hear Pacha, I hear Dan Connor. :P Still a cool story about an arrogent emporor with a heart.......somewhere.

Yeah, I was let down on that part too, but, and I never thought I'd say this about a comic character......I really like the remix of Catwoman better. It just, idk, makes more sense to me. Then again, I read Marvel, Image, Papercutz, etc. alot more than I do Dc.

I think I would have liked the movie better if it hadn't been called Catwoman.  That may sound odd, but by doing that and saying it was based on the comic book, they set it up for people to be disappointed with the movie having nothing to do with the established character.

My Thoughts:

I remembered really, really enjoying this a few years ago, and as I didn't enjoy it as much as I remembered, it was pretty good. Some particularly funny parts were Dory trying to speak whale (Who I didn't notice until now that she was voiced by Ellen DeGeneres. I'm terrible at celebrity sitings!!! :P ) and the end bit where the tank full of fish made it to the ocean only to realize they were still in bags!!

It had some funny moments, some serious parts like every movie, but some bits were just plain annoying! Like the stereotypical surfer-dude voice on all the sea turtles. (Reminds me of playing MUA2, Deadpool sounded the same!!)
Idk, something about it just irks me. Still, it was a really fun movie and I'm sorry I don't watch it more often!

My Thoughts:

Ok, anyone who knows me, (heck, anyone who sees my username!) would know that I love my fix on superheroes. That being said, you can expect my rating to be a little biased.

One thing I never understood about Hal's origin is that he saw an alien dying after he was levetated I don't know how many miles by forces he didn't know about, and he didn't seem freaked out! Show of hands, how many of you would be freaking?? Still, in the simulator he risked being tapioca, so I guess he's just not that type of guy. lol

I have to give credit for the people that came up with this, or at least layed it out for the movie. When it comes to movies taking place in space, I"m always reluctant. Those weird names and devices, long, complicated plots......a lot of times I feel so lost 20 minutes in. Not with this movie. It's clear, I had no problem understanding it, and leave it to Hal to add some humor to a Sci-Fi Superhero Adventure movie!!!

My Thoughts:

Hulk vs. Thor was never a favorite of mine, as much as a comic book addict I am. I simply never fully understood the Asgardian myths and way of life. I mean, I can't even get the lingo!! (And that's really bad considering I'm currently writing a mini series of Thor.)

One of the complaints I have are the ideas of the afterlife. Bruce was a good man. Enchantress claimed that Valhalla, the viking version of heaven, claimed his soul. He witnessed his ideal life and experianced peace. Yet, when Loki and Thor decided they needed him to send Hulk back to Midguard (which the Asgardians call Earth?) they go down. For me, that begs the question, how is it possible? Does the Goddess of Death decide herself where the soul goes? Is Valhalla only for the heroes of Asgard? I just don't get it!! :headscratch:

There are other points that bothered me, like the fact that many think Thor and Loki stepbrothers when all the Gods are of blood relation, except Loki who is a foster brother. Still, I'll stop there.

It was enjoyable overall, though. That, and the idea of the "Odin Sleep" gave me an idea for the next chapter in my writings!! ;) Very decent movie if you're the type of person to be a fan of ancient myths and legends.

My Thoughts:

This, like every other movie, has its faults. This is my third counted telling of Iron Man's origin, and the worst in my opinion, and that's including the one where they're all teenagers!!

Tony's father isn't dead, but arguing with him on how to run the company. Isn't Tony's dedication to letting his father's work live his very motivation for wearing the armor?? And after he built the armor when he was being held captive, he had an entire line of them waiting at his company's building??

Despite this, the Mandarin Ring plot was entertaining as usual, though I myself am not a fan of it. As mentioned in my previous review of Hulk vs. Thor, this type of movie, being mainly based among myths and ancient legends, a person who is interested in this topic, I would highly recommend this to. Don't let my rating fool you, I would recommend it! Just not my taste.

-----
With the apparent public discovery of the 'Site B' production island full of dinosaurs, John Hammond assembles a team to visit and document the area before it is exploited by others. Included in the four man team are Dr. Ian Malcolm and his girlfriend, Dr. Sarah Harding. When the team reaches the island, they soon discover the presence of another group of people. This new group however are not there for biological data but instead have something more sinister in mind. After a series of events, both groups become stranded when all their communication equipment is lost. It is then that the terror really begins as both groups scramble for their lives.

Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) is recruited by John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) to lead a research team to Isla Sorna, an island 87 miles to the south of Isla Nublar (the site of the original Jurassic Park). Here, InGen Bioengineering had constructed the secret "Site B", where the dinosaurs were actually bred and then transported to the park. Hammond's nephew, who has taken control of InGen, leads his own team to the island to capture the dinos and bring them back to the U.S. to become attractions at a "dino park" in San Diego. My Thoughts:

I know "Lost World" begins with L but begining or ending with it, a subtitle is a subtitle so it goes under J for Jurassic Park in my eyes, and dad also stands by me on that one.

Well, I saw the first movie 1st semester at school last year, and I think it was better. This movie, though I can't describe anything wrong with it, just didn't grab my attention as much. I found myself dazing in and out of the movie. Other than that, I found the plot a bit too much here. The proffessor wants to keep an eye on and research the dinos at Site B. I can get that. Thing is, why would someone else have the stupid idea of turning it into a park? And in San Diego?? :slaphead:

Still, the Dinosaur excitment makes up for it. You just can't stay mad at a movie where you get to see people eaten alive.  :)

The Lost World is definitely not on the same scale of brilliance as the first Jurassic Park, but the idea of the San Diego thing can be explained. It's a reference to King Kong at least (they bring him back to America as a show) and that in itself is a reference to the old explorers, who would sail off to distant lands and bring weird and wonderful things back and charge people to see them as a kind of freak show.

It's harder to accept in a modern setting, but the more times I see the film, the more it becomes my favourite bit. The T-Rex roaring into the skyline and then the nice "there's a dinosaur in the garden"!

Year: 2010
Director: Harald Zwart
Rating: PG
Length: 140 Min.

Stars:
Jaden Smith
Jackie Chan
Taraji P. Henson
Wenwen Han
Rongguang Yu

Plot:
12-year-old Dre Parker could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

My Thoughts:

Wow. I didn't exspect this!

They changed a lot of things. The place (that didn't concern me much, story stays true no matter where it is), the fact that they changed Mr. Miyagi's name. (That had me a little worried) Actually, that was about all they changed. I know, I know, he's supposed to be the Karate Kid, not the Kung Fu Kid, I know some people get on it with that, but the way I see it is karate is a generic term, and kung fu falls under that category.

The truth is, I have no reasoning why this movie is all that good. The main story is the same as the original, though they used different training exercises, the love interest is mainly the same, the challenge is the same. I suppose the modern setting and a younger Karate Kid simply added spark!! Awesome remake!!!  (and I don't say that often!!)

Glad you liked it! I think your dad flagged it up when I reviewed it as one he'd like to see. But really, don't make excuses for it. Calling it "The Karate Kid" was a cynical marketing move and nothing more. Karate is Japanese; Kung Fu is a Chinese term not restricted to Martial Arts and refers to focus and discipline in anything (the fighting styles are known as Wushu). Karate and Kung Fu are not the same thing.

But this doesn't detract from it being a good film.

Dear Viewer,

If you enjoy movies filled with singing rabbits, exploding spaceships, or cheerleaders, you are holding the wrong DVD entirely.

This movie is extremely alarming, an expression which here means " a thrilling misadventure involing three ingenious orphans and a villainous actor named Count Olaf (Carey) who wants their enormous fortune." It includes a suspicious fire, delious pasta, Jim Carey, poorly behaved leaches, an incredibly deadly viper, Meryl Streep, and the voices of an imposter named Jude Law. The only things that could make such a spectacle more upsetting are special features, such as commentary by me or outtakes involving nervous laughter.

I am bound to continue my research into the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, but you are free to seek lighter fare, like blue cheese fondue.

With all do respect,
Lemony Snicket

My Thoughts:

I really liked the movie. The review my father posted had one thing correct: it was weird. Oh, and that subbtitles for the baby was funny!!

I don't think this was a very good role for Jim Carrey. There weren't many chances for him to be as zany and outragous as we came to know him, but for such a sinister yet crazy role, who would you recommend? Idk, I guess they did the best they could as far as casting was concerned.

I never read the books, so I'm not sure how dead-on it was. I remember reviewing this before and someone told me it missed adventures and skipped a few books...that or it just wasn't accurate. I can't remember to be honest. I'll leave it to that because, as I said, I haven't read it.

Still, I am very into weird!! I think the movie was very entertaining. An inventor, a reader, and a baby who bites things! Above anything else this is a family-centered murder mystery. (Not so much a mystery as a "This guy did it! Why won't you believe us??" movie) All in all, one of my favorite movies in my collection!

Jim Carrey's best roles were the movies were he didn't do his zany and outragous shtick: "Truman Show", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "Man on the Moon".

Lemony Snickets is unusual, but I liked it. It reminded me of old fashioned children's stories; orphan's being dragged into a cruel and twisted fairytale. It could certainly have been better, but it's amongst Carrey's best roles at least. There was just something about the film as a whole that didn't click enough to support him.

I liked this movie.  It is different, but so are the books.  There are like 12 books in the series - I can't remember now - and the movie condenses the first 3 books into one movie.  Some new stuff is added in, though it works for the most part.
I did like Carrey in this one.

I would have been interested to see this continue with more movies, but that hasn't happened.

^This. Although I have not seen Man on the Moon myself.

Bruce Almighty is a fun film, where he dialled back the zaniness substantially, and, being the first of his comedy stuff I saw, I woudn't turn off Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

My Thoughts:

Yes, I'm watching horror when my father can't! :P I had to do it!!

I've seen Nosferatu before. The movie was good, you're basic (and first, after the Dracula book) vampire story. Since it was shot silenmtly, I always had to rush when it came to reading, or paused it time after time, which got a little annoying. The background music was awesome in my opinion. (Keep on rockin', Type O Negative!!! ) The black and white and no sound didn't bother me, except for one thing - - - it seemed so peaceful with that nice horror-like music that I near fell asleep while it was going, and, keep in mind that opening intro included, the movie moved to end credits about an hour in.

My Thoughts:

The movie was pretty interesting. When I saw the commercial back when it arrived in theaters, I couldn't wait!! This, surprisingly, was my first time seeing it. My only regret about this movie is..well...I was kinda dissapointed in the deaths. I thought they'd all be murdered when they get the calls! I don't think I'll expose anything by saying most of the deaths seemed like accidents. I can't help but feel they should have been pulled away in a bloody trail, still screaming in their last seconds.........what can I say? It's what I expected. Also, the ending is keeping me wondering.

All in all, it's a good movie, I just it needs a little more help to be on the scary side. At the most, I was only slightly creeped. :(

Wow. I remember so much of this. The plagues. Death of the first born son. Turning the sea to blood.

The movie is very well done, though I don't recommend it for children (the very young, might be a bit too strong when it came to deaths and the plague.) it was a great retelling of Moses' journey. There is really not much else to say.

My Thoughts:

This is actually an old favorite of mine. Though I love the story and the spirit, it suffers from one flaw - - -too much music. I personally think a song or two is plenty. But, C'mon! A song just for the villain to explain his plan? A song where the dragons impersonate Elvis and Sunny & Cher? Ugh.

Nonetheless, still a favorite! I wouldn't be surprised if I felt like watching it again!

Pete, did you ever liek music to any extent?

I mean, when I asked people in the past, some would answer "radio", meaning that they'll just listen to whatever is there. Noone ever said they hate music.

My Thoughts:

Oh yeah, I remember this from when Hey Arnold! and CatDog were still on the air. (Or somehwere around there.) Reggie, Otto, Twister, Squid. The cartoons didn't make more extreme kids!! Although I always liked the show, the movie I didn't care for too much. Don't get me wrong the "Evil little men" Menehune thing was funny! But the thing about Ray finding a girl and the kids getting jealous, idk, just don't care for it.

Plot:
What a house! It's all steel and glass and elegance - and it all belongs to Arthur Kriticos and his family as an unexpected inheritance. You could say it's their dream home. Especially if the dreams are nightmares.

Awesome ectoplasmic specters populate THIRTEEN GHOSTS, an effects-rampant remake of the 1960 William Castle haunted-house film from producers Gilbert Adler, Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis, who conjured up the equally terrorific HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1999). Tony Shalhoub as Arthur leads a cast that includes Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, Rah Digga and F. Murray Abraham. The house itself is a design marvel and a mysterious puzzle-cube whose eerie corridors, sliding walls, spinning floors and phantasmic fiends may allow no escape.

Plot:
Eddie Murphy's got the bite stuff in this movie mix of bone-chilling horror and chill-out comedy directed by Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street). As the vampire Maximillian, the popular star is the most diabolical, dashing and definitely undead dude in the 'hood'. To add to the macabre fun, Murphy morphs into two other must-see characters: a paunchy preacher and a fast talking thug.

Angela Bassett (The Score) plays the cop who's world is rocked by Maximillian's attempts to make her his mate for eternity. And Kadeem Hardison is the vampire's haplessly decaying sidekick. Brooklyn may be home to the undead now that Max is around – but that means it's livelier than ever!

Definitely one of my favorite vampire movies, but then again I haven't seen that many.

I liked the idea of a suave, sophisticated-type vampire to have chosen a street-wise lier, theif and cheater as his apprentice - a ghoul. That perspective was hilarious through the whole movie doing the "Flippity floppity jibby!" (and if you saw the movie you'd know why what I just typed was funny! )

My Thoughts:

Short as it may be, a little over an hour (ignoring the credits) it is my favorite portrayal of Wonder Woman. Though I liked the 70s series, I didn't like how she seemed so ignorant to the outside world when she first arrived, and they never dived into that in the Justice Leagure cartoons. Here she is a strong warrior who simply wants peace and to bring the two worlds together, the way it should be.

It has a fair amount of humor, and really is excellently done when it comes to accuracy on Greek myths. They really picked up on everything.

My Thoughts:

I've seen reveiws of this across the web, a lot of fan didn't seem to like this trilogy. When it comes to all 3, its not one of my favorites, but it is pretty good...

My one and only complaint is the use of Kitty Pryde in this first movie. (Not saying the trilogy cuz I can barely remember the other two.) To me, she is one of the major members of the X-Men! May not be all that powerful, but walking through stuff is still really cool in my eyes! ;D She got one mention in the begining, a small appearance at the school, and that's it. I think it would hasve been interesting to, maybe, have her bunk with Rogue? Have her portrayed as the perky, teenage girl she was in the cartoon, X-Men: Evolution. Tell me that wouldn't have been sweet, or at least a little comic relief!!

I think the writers pretty much nailed the characters, and Mystique was done very well. I also liked the little origin piece on how Rogue's hair turned white. That really was never explained, as far as I know, and lets face it, that's definitely the first thing you notice about her!! :P

A enjoyable film for every so often.

My joy in watching this film has not diminished over the years. My niece and nephews love it too and can almost recite verbatim the entire movie.

"Cuz everyone wants these little lunatics....to be like ME!!"

There are a lot of laughs here (I've watched this a bunch of times, so its not quite laugh-out-loud anymore) and I loved the comic book-style opening/ending here. Nice touch, and perfect music too, though if you talk to my dad, the perfect music is "mute"!! :tease: The fact of having a little girl be so strong, it's just, well, adorable!!

Great family movie.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
